  • Now that I've had my hands on both Blade Grow and Glow lights for a few days I am ready to answer your questions. I will also go through all of the comments on the previous videos and will address those questions in this Q&A. See you Sunday!

    reducing light spill is the #1 reason I am thinking about the blades.
    Q: one worry I have is loosing the "full spectrum" wonder how they will grow macro algae?
    Q: if you had a 36x22x22" tank would you go with 3- 12" runing front to back 2 grow and 1 glow OR 2- 30" both grow?
    Q: I would love to see your par/pur data on these with the included clear legs. on the tank.
    Q: if you had a 70.9 x 30 x 22 FOWLR and just need lighting would do 2 length wise or 4 -2 footers across the tank?
    Q: I am guessing each light has it own power brick?

      Light spill is very nicely reduced, no doubt. I'd go for 2 30'' for sure. Check out my other videos - I am getting crazy par on those.

    Great review of the blade. But I have to tell you that you helped me realize something huge! I'm currently fighting dinos and dialed lights down 30% to slow the dinoflagellates. My alk has been climbing and didn't know why. Thank you, bc you mentioned light output and alk consumption!! Now it makes sense

      I'm going to lower kalk dosing so it doesn't keep rising.

    I truly enjoy your videos. Very informative. Regarding the flat legs, I understand from your other video that you have them installed for a few weeks. I would like to know if salt spray would become a big issue given that the light is so close to water surface.

    • @TreasureCorals
      @TreasureCorals  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks! Funny enough it was not an issue for me at all. I don't think I had to clean it off once, but it will depend on your water agitation level

    I do agree for coral growers - I think the big application for this light is on coral farms with those wider tanks (4foot) tanks. For LPS you would just need to Grows and for someone like WWC with their 8x4' tanks they could replace their 2 x 4 (I think) XR30s with 4 XR 15s and 2 x 3 ft Blades on each side (so 4 Blades). This would be a MUCH more cost effective solution for them.
    The other SUPER interesting thing you said was they don't bleach your corals - exactly what I would expect. I think LEDs bleach corals because they are hit with beams of too much narrow spectrum outside of the 420-490nm range. The design of these lights is just an awesome concept to blend the 3 diodes and it's going to reduce the risk of newbies burning their corals.
    Shaun from the Ocean Project said on Reef Dork that for new wild corals he gets in he only turns on the blues and then after a couple of weeks starts turning on the whites - slowly ramping up 5% a day over another 2 weeks or more. This has apparently massively reduced the chances of bleaching.
    The more I hear about these lights the more I think they are revolutionary when used the right way

    • @TreasureCorals
      @TreasureCorals  Год назад +1

      I just tried it - with both RB and B at max and whites at zero - you get a very Reefbrites look, maybe better. It just pops like no tomorrow.

    • @sunnygoold9449
      @sunnygoold9449 Год назад +1

      @@TreasureCorals Yep! Knew it... this is the huge positive everyone is missing - turning it down, using it as a visor with just the blues for pop is going to be the bomb! I'd start making brackets that angle down as shades for it ;)

    Thanks for the video. I'm setting up peninsula 3620 and considering the blade. If they sit right on the tank, would you have to ramp them down?

    • @TreasureCorals

    I am curious about the Glow as a supplement for my hydra 32's. In your opinion would a glow with a very low setting as supplemental work but also, prevent this purple look you keep mentioning? I would really like to avoid a orange tang. Thank you.

    • @TreasureCorals
      @TreasureCorals  Год назад

      it would depend on how you currently run your hydras - if you like more of a white look - get grows, if you go all blue - glow.

    If I mix my kessil set to white with a glow do you think I could make a unique appealing look?
    I am trying to decide between the grow and glow.

    • @TreasureCorals
      @TreasureCorals  Год назад +1

      Yes, I think so. Glow would give you strong actinic, so the corals will pop. Grow would give you a bit more of a common white/blue/purple look. Depends on what you would prefer aesthetically.

    • @sunnygoold9449
      @sunnygoold9449 Год назад

      @@TreasureCorals Related to this I'd like to see which gives more pop - the Grow with the whites off or the Glow? I think it will be the (Grow-whites).
      Diaz - I think this is the perfect application of this light if you don't have the controller for the Kessil. If you did have the controller I would consider the Grow as with the controller you can bring up the Kessil UV and Violets and you could create a super appealing look both with a whiter look and an evening blue look when you could turn off the whites on the Blade

    I have seen people do par tests already on the blades but I can't find a full par test by AI listed online, just a graph for values at 24" depth?. Ideally I'd like to see the values at 100% power tested at varying depths for each light and size. I'm looking at the 20" vs 30" grow in particular

    • @TreasureCorals
      @TreasureCorals  Год назад

      Good question. I think that the PAR will be similar between them, you'll just have more length on 30''. The par on those lights is extremely high.

    I have an 18 x 18 x 17 deep JBJ nano. Do you think 1 12 inch grow and 1. 12 inch glow will be enough to light this tank for a mixed reef? Or should I go with a AI prime 16 HD ??
