I know this is a long video. You would be surprised at how little information there is about this either on RUclips or on the Internet. So I felt it necessary to take the time to thoroughly describe this entire set up to the best of my rudimentary ability. This info is helpful for many makes and models. But I am working on my 1990 Chevrolet C K 1500 Truck that has an R4 R-4 A/C Compressor. Many AC Delco and Delphi as well as some aftermarket R 4 compressors share this. Info on how to install an R4 style automotive AC Delco GM Chevrolet HVAC AC A/C air conditioning compressor, including the sealing seal washers and little aluminum inserts. I am no expert. This is just what i learned from a couple of weeks of googling and whatnot.

Much thanks from me and my 85 C10! I will now charge my AC for the fourth time, but this time with the correct seals and installed correctly. Entire new AC system, but no instructions on sealing the hoses to the compressor. ❄️💨

This was the exact information I needed to repair my a/c on a 1990 Chev C1500. I had installed the sealing washers without the insert about a year ago, but a leak occurred eventually. Of course the leak was at the flat face connection to the back of the compressor. This video contained the perfect solution to my problem. It's good to have my a/c back. Thanks for the help.

I was in the process of returning my compressor to an online auto parts distributor. They had me take pictures of my old compressor and the new compressor. The second person I spoke with (after the photos were viewed) had no clue but to do a return. I had been sent the emailed UPS return shipping label. I think I did 1 Google search and the AC Sealing Washers popped. I called the parts distributor back and the person (third person), knew what I needed. It's being sent free of charge.
    Good video.

You guys won't believe after I did this huge project and had this truck fantastic - a few months later - the truck died (unrelated to this A/C job) and it never ran again. I spent over a year trying to get it going again - but no. And I replaced EVERYTHING one could replace to make a vehicle run ---- nope. Sold it for about $3500 - and was glad of it. Talk about DISAPPOINTMENT!

Thank you so much for the info. I was wondering why mine didn't want to hook up right. Man what a POS design. I got the same style flat mounting block as you on my 89 Firebird. The r4 four seasons compressor I bought from AutoZone didn't even come with the inserts or instructions, only four sealing washers. 1 yellow 1 green and 2 red. I really don't want to pull off the line to hammer in the inserts wich I would have to get them since it didn't even come with them. Think I'll just take it back and trade it in for the remanufactured one. Thanks again. Good video.

I bought a Four seasons compressor and mine did not come with the sleeves. It is leaking but I can't find the leak. Prior to replacing the compressor, the system had no leaks. It runs out of freon about every two to three weeks. Can it leak, because it does not have a sleeve? Mine clearly stated not to put oil in it because it already had the oil in. any ideas?

You're supposed to have a certain clearance in thousandth of an ince on the hose block once it's tightened to the compressor. You need to use a filler gauge once it's tight. I'll see if I can find the video I seen about it.

Most of the kits come with them. There's no "scam."

The problem is the instructions are unclear and trying to "figure it out" on your own is not easy. And there are few videos describing this task. (Which is why we did our video.) The next time I have my a/c rebuilt or replaced I will just pay the money and let the professional do it. Simple as that.

I wouldn't say they are useless. But the don't make much sense at first. Which is why we made this video. There is no good info anywhere about doing this job.

I can’t thank you enough. I tracked a leak and decided I’d fix it. I’ve never messed w an A/C system. Bust the hose off, get a new hose…they gave me the hose with a male connector for the lower condenser connection. I needed female.
Saw I needed a vacuum pump, so ordered the correct hose and rented the pump. Get home, no hoses. Hoses are separate! Lol, thanks for the heads up, ABC Auto parts. Go back, get the hoses.
Come home, break it apart, see the green and gold gasket washers. Damn. Hey, ABC, do you got em? Yeah, we got em. Drive up there, they don’t. Call 6 diff parts houses, no one has them. Call an A/C shop, he gives me the number of his supplier. An old building piled with boxes, and they ONLY deal w paper and catalogs. No computers. My kinda place.
Breaking the condenser lines was tough. Rounded the welded nuts on the condenser. So, got a new condenser as well.
All to find out…the $20 seal kit is all I needed.
Now, I’m gonna hook up the vacuum pump, run it for a hour, check bleed off, throw a shot of oil and a shot of dye in it and charge the system.

I will never attempt this task again. As you saw, it's just too much to bother with.
