This was the exact information I needed to repair my a/c on a 1990 Chev C1500. I had installed the sealing washers without the insert about a year ago, but a leak occurred eventually. Of course the leak was at the flat face connection to the back of the compressor. This video contained the perfect solution to my problem. It's good to have my a/c back. Thanks for the help.
Appreciate those of you that take the time to do GOOD videos. I have been doing my own repairs for many years but when I bought an R4 of this design from Four Seasons I received a washer kit but no instructions. I had never used an R4 of this design. You saved me a lot of headaches trying to figure out the washer issue. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks
I was in the process of returning my compressor to an online auto parts distributor. They had me take pictures of my old compressor and the new compressor. The second person I spoke with (after the photos were viewed) had no clue but to do a return. I had been sent the emailed UPS return shipping label. I think I did 1 Google search and the AC Sealing Washers popped. I called the parts distributor back and the person (third person), knew what I needed. It's being sent free of charge. Good video.
Man you are the best was changing my compressor on 92 Sonoma and I ran into this problem. Thank you so much for the information you put out on this. Now I have cold a/c thanks again.
Thank you so much for posting this video, I had to experience the head aches of trying to work out with my mechanic on which seals to use for the A/C Compressor on my 1985 Corvette.
Dude , you are a saint. Idk about a scholar 🤣 , but definitely a saint and a life savor. I originally hooked mine up wrong and cost me 2 cans of 12$ Freon. I followed what you did on this video and I’m back in business! No leaks and no wasted money in Freon. Thank you 🙏 so much for making this video !!! God bless.
Great video! Kit is on order. I tried to cheat this situation with washers not knowing about this. After failed pressure test, found this video and made my day.
Yep, I don't think any other video online shows these details (which is why we made the video after much failed search for answers...) We have lots more about this truck on this channel and our other channel.... See playlist ruclips.net/p/PLVsdJzatTm_V7HUf02Me0fpaj93vSpm-L
And the "instructions" basically tell you nothing on how to do it. Which is why we felt the need to do this video. We have more about the project in a playlist in the Comments here.
Much thanks from me and my 85 C10! I will now charge my AC for the fourth time, but this time with the correct seals and installed correctly. Entire new AC system, but no instructions on sealing the hoses to the compressor. ❄️💨
You guys won't believe after I did this huge project and had this truck fantastic - a few months later - the truck died (unrelated to this A/C job) and it never ran again. I spent over a year trying to get it going again - but no. And I replaced EVERYTHING one could replace to make a vehicle run ---- nope. Sold it for about $3500 - and was glad of it. Talk about DISAPPOINTMENT!
Thanks for this. I completely ruined a brand new compressor trying to get it to seal by tightening it too tight and stripping the threads since I didn’t have the right configuration of seals. Trying this again here soon. Appreciate it!
Thank you sir!, this helps me a lot! Shame on me for buying AC delco. I shoulda just got the four seasons compressor with the old school ports. 85 Monte Carlo SS with an Olds 350 so my set up is that of a 80s cutlass with a V8
THANK YOU I was completely dumbfounded by this! Silly me for thinking that OEM parts would just go together without special adapters and secret instructions 😂🤦
I had the added luck of not getting that seal kit and instructions with the new AC Delco compressor, and instead being sold an o-ring set (also AC Delco) that had thin metal/rubber washers for some other application.
Thank you I watched it a couple times, when replaced the washers the ac guy that replaced my compressor used a red and green with no spacer it should have been yellow and green with a spacer, also the green washer was chewed up. thanks,
Here's more about this project. I found very little info like this online. This is why we did the videos. Even though we are hardly "experts" at automotive A/C repair. ruclips.net/p/PL_5XjPVEw3swRL4ED9AhsynAgZsuXDzZm
Thanks man mine kept leaking and the kit from advance doesn’t come with the metal caps I watched your video and ordered those seals from Amazon and bam back cold and no leaks
Thank you so much for the info. I was wondering why mine didn't want to hook up right. Man what a POS design. I got the same style flat mounting block as you on my 89 Firebird. The r4 four seasons compressor I bought from AutoZone didn't even come with the inserts or instructions, only four sealing washers. 1 yellow 1 green and 2 red. I really don't want to pull off the line to hammer in the inserts wich I would have to get them since it didn't even come with them. Think I'll just take it back and trade it in for the remanufactured one. Thanks again. Good video.
Yes this seemingly simple task is SO NOT simple. They parts manufacturers offering little to nothing as far as instructions, help, correct parts, NOTHING. So dumb....
Thank you..im pretty sure mine leaked because i used the seals that were flush into compressor...red..vs green. So the seals should stick up slightly vs flat to be compressed correct? Also I didn’t use an insert on discharge sideeither..after a year it let go on high side
@@HorsepowerHouse20 very interesting I had no idea how to use the different size bolt length the clamp my hose to the compressor so expecting is probably not sealing right after a couple years
And for those watching this and hoping to do this job yourself - I will never do this job again. It is just too much to deal with. Let a professional handle it. (and I hate letting someone else fix my cars.)
I bought a Four seasons compressor and mine did not come with the sleeves. It is leaking but I can't find the leak. Prior to replacing the compressor, the system had no leaks. It runs out of freon about every two to three weeks. Can it leak, because it does not have a sleeve? Mine clearly stated not to put oil in it because it already had the oil in. any ideas?
You're supposed to have a certain clearance in thousandth of an ince on the hose block once it's tightened to the compressor. You need to use a filler gauge once it's tight. I'll see if I can find the video I seen about it.
I really appreciate this video..it's very specific and it was the kind I was looking for, I was wondering the last thing u did taking out the switch plug and putting a new one on...what part number or where did u get that pressure switch from I keep looking for it online but nothing comes up that looks exactly like that. It would truly help me if I know where u got the switch from so I can order mine as well, I an installing the sane compressor on my 84 corvette buy it didn't come with the switch so help is appreciated thank you.

I don't have a part number or link for the pressure switch. You will have to do as I did and just keep searching for one.
Do you have to have the pressure switch on the back of the compressor? I cant find it for my 1992 Silverado and my old one did not have one.
hard to find. keep searching.

Thankyou! Do you use lubricant for the washers?
No
Don't have to, but you can use poe oil just to lubricate, I've done in the past
Thanks.❤

How many ounces of oil did you put in it?
And what type?

That pressure switch on back of compressor where you get it or look it up for part store
The exact one is hard to find. Google or ebay.
You can still get them from parts stores
I cant seem to find this switch for my 1992 k1500. The parts store searches keep showing me a threaded thing.
My hose is steped so i can use the two black seals which are identical.oh the compressor is steped as well
the instructions tell you which seals to use with which type of block and whatnot.
Do you know what size are the old rubber o-rings you popped off the old compressor
Sorry, no.
