  • While poking around on the internet to learn more about the American F-4S Phantom, I somehow ended up reading an article about the Su-27’s use in Ukraine, by both Russia and Ukraine. If you don’t know yet, the Su-27 is a Soviet supersonic fighter aircraft. It was designed as a competitor to the American F-14 Tomcat and McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle. The article I read was from the Smithsonian magazine, a magazine, which focuses mainly on research and education on science and nature. Now, the reason I mention this is because there are some very interesting interviews with Ukrainian pilots who operated the Su-27, and they have a lot of interesting things to say about it. What they said was more surprising for me actually, considering the current… SITUATION between Russia and Ukraine at the moment.
Hello and welcome to the Bobi and Tanks RUclips channel and enjoy this video, but not about tanks this time.

All of them saying that Su27 is more maneurable here and there, but in the game you suffer in dogfights on this plane

Yeah that's true. But they have to balance out the Su-27 because it has some of the best missiles in the game. They're very maneuverable and fast. So it would be seen as unfair to also make the Su-27 good in dogfights.

SU27 is just a platform for delivery of weapons and usage of sensors and communications. All other air superiority aircraft, including the F-15, are essentially the same thing in the eyes of commanders. We're talking about an air frame here, which is why it frustrates me when I see caveman ooga boogas think that it's the only variable that matters. Your F-15 or SU-27 are both crap if they are not well equipped, upgraded with avanced sensors and avionics, limited to short range or non-radar weapons, without command and communications (AWACS or Air TACOM), proper maintainince and production lines, political support for economic funding, integration of platform with other units in space, air, land and sea, professionaly trained pilots, etc. etc.

Firing the gun breaks the plane so much that you are only left with 10 minutes of flight due to the batteries at maximum?
Well that’s a flaw if I’ve ever seen one.

No, those were two separate issues. The 10 minute issue was due to a failure in the air conditioning.
