Congratulations on your high contribution to this wonderful hobby.
When i first saw your articles in CTT, I was absolutely awed and wished i could see and hear your actual layout. You sharing it here for anyone to watch is a dream come true for me and I'm sure many other modelers as well
All I can say is wow! Absolutely love your work . When I talk to folks about my hobby I reference Your work and videos to folks around where I live here in Kansas and when folks see what You have done and what I aspire too they are just blown away ! I tell them ... now this is what I am going to aim for so thanks for what you do.
Absolutely amazing! Down to the details, I feel as if I were taken back to the Ohio industrial city where I grew up in the middle of the last century. Thanks for sharing this.
I'm ashamed to admit it Norm, I get green with envy watching your videos. The new camera angles are superb. The fact that the inside of your structures are just as weathered as the exteriors is mind boggling. I mean, you took the time to weather the roof of the round house.
You must be psychic, I was going to ask you to post a Video of the "J" in action, it's always been my favorite engine and with your weathering it's over the top. Your video was PERFECT, you must be a fan of O. Winston Link
Excellent, excellent, footage, you just can’t get anymore realistic than this and to have some footage come from, I guess one of the hopper cars and then one of the buildings behind where a man is holding a bottle of soda, unbelievable. Thank you once again, outstanding.
The realism on this video is breathtaking. It's better than a rail fan excursion. You'd never get to see this much on an excursion. You're obviously an excellent cameraman as well as master model railroad builder. Thank you for sharing your pike. Do you ever have an open house?
Most enjoyable video ive seem norm im in Michigan too and am inspired by your work/ beauty of your layout and engines. PS. A big fan of the NYC and the Pennsylvania RR.
You know what sells this? The lighting both inside the roundhouse and "outside" looking from inside the roundhouse through the doors! Especially the inside lighting!
For sure one of the best layouts I have seen. The sky is never been done better or the weathering. Take a good look at cement and intricate details. You can almost feel like your there. Is that not the whole point of scale modeling.........? Not too mention the larger model gauge is also harder to model...i.m.o. This guy way past model railroading he is an artist.
Norm - is there any content online about your layout itself? It is gorgeous. Would love to see the track plan. Also interested in learning about the lighting, scenery techniques, etc.
The trackplan was published in my OGR article a couple years ago: ogaugerr.com/run-301/ I have been wanting to do a layout tour vid. I'd like to start with a general overview, then do separate vids on track, power/control, signals, scenery, lighting, etc.
would love to know about the signals! what brands are the masts, the signal bridges, and the dwarfs! how did you wire it and is it lined up in a signaling system?
I have to ask. Is the 3 rail PRR J1 a Lionel or other make. Ever since I discovered your work I realize that three rail O scale can be done realisticly.
See, here's the thing. If you can get the photographic angle and / or the depth of field just right ( in order to eliminate the focus blur ) this layout would be practically indistinguishable from real life! You can see that at 1:50.
@@normstrains I understand. Is it all year long for you? I mostly do it in the winter time. I belong to a modular club that gets together a couple times out of the year so that helps keep me inspired.

Such an amazing layout and camera work too but may I ask one question, why is there no smoke coming from the locomotives? This would sure put the icing on the cake if you know what I mean.
@@normstrains it would be quite some work to do. Fantastic work, i am finishing up a crude large scale model trolley and the work involved is tremendous, and still about 1/1000th what you have done.

Thanks! I liked your J1 video!
That is one beautiful layout and great camera work. Nice to see a J1 at work.
Norm, the lighting on your layout is great, looks like it's outside.
Easily one of the most realistic layouts I’ve seen. Love the shots from inside the well weathered buildings too.
It really shows the magic of 3RS. The third rail isn't a sore thumb when it is surrounded by the true craft of model railroading.
Simply the best. Awesome work Norm!
Thanks man!
Phenomenal modeling!
Always loved those coast-to-coast tenders (and have wanted to see one being lugged around by an A5).
Unbelievably detailed! Fantastic.
Thanks Jimi. 🎸 Say hi to Elvis for me!

Wow cool, glad you like my layout. I hope to make some more vids soon.
Best 3 rail modeling I've seen. Good enough one forgets there's a middle rail.
Nothing beats the sound of an old steam locomotive!
Nice shots of the Pennsylvania J1a at work on your beautiful layout Norm

GORGEOUS FOOTAGE COULD NOT APPEAR MORE REALISTIC, BRAVO SIR, YOU GET THE CAP AND GOWN!!!!!!!!
Cannot get better than your layout and in all respects at that Norm. Outstanding as usual.
Great job on the machine shop. I really like the part where the engine backs out and picks up its load.
Awsome shots Norm.. as usual!👍🏻😀 Great layout!! If there was ever an O gauge "Hall Of Fame" you would be first.. front row centre. You inspire us all!
Watching your videos on the J1 made me get a J1 made by BLI. They look so mighty and I always wanted the 2-10-4 type.
That BLI stuff is nice! I love how cohesive their product line is!
the camera work on your running videos is top notch, as always

Beautiful, extra-ordinary, superlative! Thank you for sharing.
This is beyond fantastic, I still can’t believe 3rail. Excellent all around!!
Love the angle from the cam mounted on the hopper
That was my GoPro 9. I am trying to find more uses for it. I like sticking it out of a boxcar door.
Nice Norm. I tried weathering on a Lionel traditional O-Gauge PRR boxcar that came from the Pennsylvania Flyer set from the early 2000s.
The whole layout is spectacular, you’ve caught everything perfectly thank you for sharing
Amazing work, Norm! I really wish the PRR J1a’s survived the scrap heap.
Spectacular.Looks so real.

I am amazed at the detail in this layout,. Granted, this is "O" gauge but still.. There is some true artistry involved here.
Awesome layout of my favorite railroad.
Just fantastic! Everything working together to make a better than real moment.

This is an Altoona Model Works kit. I bought the lighting kit with it.
Please please please do more of these style video s
Like standing next to the PRR in that era-the best modeling bar none.
looks great! Fun to watch thank you for posting

Would love to see the Q1 come out again
Level of realism is extraordinary!
Pennsylvania railroad,best ever.

Really great layout.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Beautiful layout off the hook
Man your train operation is so real looking. 👍next time show engineers inside train driving Train.
Excellent camera work !
Now THAT'S a hefty beast!
Agree, camera work is flawless!
Very lovely J1, enjoyed the video series. Any plans of getting a Santa Fe 2-10-4?
If I could find one for the right price!
would love to know about the signals! what brands are the masts, the signal bridges, and the dwarfs! how did you wire it and is it lined up in a signaling system?
These are Custom Signals and Atlas. Hoping to make a few layout tour videos someday. The signal system would be a separate vid.
Amazing job!
That was so cool rail on my friends.
Fantastic looking loco and tender ❤❤❤❤
Hey Norm- your work looks fantastic!
Outstanding.
Beautiful 👌🏻😊😊
As usual, just WOW!!
7:27 It looks great! Can you film a full lap?
Norm, I would guess the answer is no right now due to the virus, but do you allow visits to your layout? Awesome Stuff!!!
Really great layout. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤣
you have any PRR electric locos? also man did PRR love massive tenders
No, I don’t have any catenary strung!
you are # 1
Wait is this a model or real life it looks so real
just an idea, what if you got a Y3 or Y6 and detailed it to be an HH-1? I'm a huge fan of the Pennsy as well, except I do mostly HO
I hope one day i can make my layout look this cool
Gorgeous!
i love your layout its so realistic. i use lego trains but i think i should switch to model trains
Awesome shots of video and the M1b in the background. I have an idea, Double head it with the Lionel j-1a!
I have to ask. Is the 3 rail PRR J1 a Lionel or other make. Ever since I discovered your work I realize that three rail O scale can be done realisticly.
This is a 3rd Rail brass model. 3rd Rail is a division of Sunset Models. At 6:44 you can see a Lionel J1a pacing for a short time on the outer track.
Where did you get that figure at the end, holding the beer? Very cool
That is an Arttista figure, they are the best-rendered and very soulful IMO!

Too bad You don't have one of the "smoking" engines....back in the day I had a Lionel set that had a actual smoking locomotive
I’m only the railroad workers aren’t animated as well! Great stuff all away around.
is that weathering on the locomotive?
Are you fine if I use that footage for my song about the PRR? They never had a theme.
Do you have any passenger cars
Well done. Do you have any other hobbies your into?
Thanks! I'm mostly into my model RRing these days.

TOTALLY REALISTIC!!!!!!!! THE BEST BRAVO NORM
Are all these models 3rd rail?
Yes
Thumbnail had me fooled I thought it was real
No smoke?
He weathered the engines and if you turn the smoke on it ruins the weathering
Why did I think this was real?
Litterly thought the thumbnail was real life.
i use to add aints and spiders to my set
You do? 😂 Spiders add themselves to my layout all the time. I have to clear their “decorations” from my scenery quite bit.
Such an amazing layout and camera work too but may I ask one question, why is there no smoke coming from the locomotives? This would sure put the icing on the cake if you know what I mean.
so realistic
i thought this was real 😂
Is it has I thought this was real? Lol
This is one if the most realistic things i have seen...might be time to ditch the third rail.
No
