Good luck with whatever you do and congrats on a truly great body of work that you’ve formed over the years. The very end of the video goes right back to you!
Thank you!
Hey Alec,
I'm not sure if you remember me, but way back in the Flixist days you put out a call for someone to help design some intro animations for the site and I very excitedly said I'd help you in any way I could. I had almost zero actual experience or technical skill (save from watching a whole lot of FreddieW tutorials), but somehow I managed to stumble my way through creating that movie theater intro in (which to my surprise I think you actually liked!). What a treat to see that pop up for a moment in this video! And what a treat to see Hubert again too! I really loved the work you guys did back in the Flixist days.
I just wanted to stop by and leave a little message to let you know that I feel so much of what you've said in this video, and while I may not have watched every video you put out on this channel - I have been watching since the beginning and I'm very proud of what you've accomplished. It is really not easy to put yourself out there and give it a real honest go. But you did it, and you did a fantastic job. I've always dreamed of doing something similar, but I was too scared to really commit to it and like you mentioned in this video, if you don't try, you can't be disappointed. Every once in a while I got my friends together and we made a silly sketch video, but that's about as far as it went.
Instead of running away to Hollywood I took a relatively safe job as a computer programmer (which I really do enjoy), and as time has gone on and everyone has settled down there's been less and less time for silly sketches. Yet in spite of all that, there's something about that drive to be creative that just won't die. When my wife and I got married we decided to have our ceremony in a local movie theater and I asked the guy in charge of the rental if we could play a video during the ceremony and he said "yup, you're renting the place, go crazy". This instantly lit a spark in my mind and I devised 3 silly fake movie trailer sketches that we filmed and played before the official ceremony (Pro tip: if you're already in the middle of the stress of planning a wedding, maybe don't double up your workload by throwing some goofy videos in the mix).
Now these videos were a little rushed, and definitely not as high of a quality as I would have liked, but there was something amazing about standing in a movie theater filled with my friends and family laughing at some stupid videos I made moments before I married the person I love. It made that special day even more magical. That moment might be the creative high point in my life, and if so, I'm content with that. To this day I still have aunts and uncles telling me how unique our wedding was and how much they loved it. That's enough for me.
These days I've got two little boys and even less free time, but I have managed to put out a couple sketches staring my oldest son - just to scratch that old itch. And who knows, maybe someday my kids will take the same joy in creating videos that I do and I can teach them what I know.
I'm not sure what compelled me to write all that. I suppose your video has put me in a contemplative mood. I've always considered you a sort of kindred spirit, and I've consistently enjoyed the work that you've done. I'm sad to see your channel ending, but unfortunately that's just how life goes sometimes. Thankfully you went out with a bang! I know you'll be successful at whatever you do next, but if you happen to ever put out some more videos I will be here to check them out.
Of course I remember! Thank you very much for the animation. I'm glad it's re-immortalized here. And thank you for watching all this time.
Life's weird. I'm glad you've found something you like even if it wasn't what you'd always dreamed of, and I'm been able to keep doing little things here and there. 🙂
I watched this movie with my mother. Neither of us was prepared for it to be so profoundly About Us.
Where's the alternate universe where RUclips doesn't suck enough so that you are able to make a living doing this great work
Wow! What an incredible video! I thought that I already knew pretty much everything there is to know about EEAAO (I’m too obsessed: I watched it 19 times in the theater; I’ve read and watched everything I can find about it; and it displaced my former all-time favorite movie, which had held its spot for 40 years), but I learned SO MUCH from this remarkable video.
Thank you for this treasure of a video. It’s clear how much effort you put into it. Liked and subscribed!
Glad I was able to offer something extra!
Wow! This is one of the most original review formats I've ever seen. And my favorite.
Wish you all the best in your new endeavors!
You got me all choked up. Thank you for posting this lovely video, I’m grateful for all you have done.
Thank you!
I came back to watch the video from the beginning because I caught the premiere after it started. Great video and great content on the channel, I think I may be an anomaly because I think I found your channel when I was watching stuff about Babymetal and then found your videos about Korean movies and stuff like that, then I subscribed (btw I meant to ask in the AMA if you know about Atarashii Gakkou but I had to leave, for reasons).
The channel deserved to have a bigger impact than it had. But at least you can be proud of what you created here. Thanks for the videos. The channel is dead, long live the channel.
When I was sitting in the theater, I was just amazed and thinking this was one of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen.
Damn. I just discovered your videos. While I will be watching all of them, I am sad there won’t be any more!
Amazing video and I love your Psyduck and Red Panda in the background mid-way through. :) Very thought provoking and fun the way you did it and this is my first time seeing your videos and subbed. Keep up the good work sir.
Much love my friend
Thank you!
Hubert, I'm gonna miss all the great reviews. You were tragically underrated, but I hope the best for you!
Your show was a wonderful find and I’m so sorry that it ended. Thanks for sharing your insights all these years! J
I think you are amazing as a videographer and host. ❤
This is an amazing review. The quality and quantity of research and materials are unbelievable.
I've enjoyed watching your videos over the past couple of years (probably since the Parasite video), and I'm sad to see you go. Your reviews are always interesting and thoughtful, but even if they weren't that, they're entertaining as well.
Good luck in whatever you choose to do next! I hope to see your name come up somewhere in the future.
Man it sucks showing up late to the party. I love this guy....to the backlog i go
I found you with the Bo Burnham Inside video and was struck by how unique, special and thoughtful your commentary was. Every video I have seen of yours has inspired similar feelings in me. You helped me discover Daniel Sloss' X which was such essential viewing for me. I discovered Hannah Gadsby whose work broke my heart and cracked me up in equal measure.
I admit I didn't subscribe because I am notoriously unreliable and get distracted easily, but I will still lament the end of the channel. Especially because having viewed many breakdowns and reactions to EEAAO, this was easily the best. It made me tear up. I wish you all the success in your future endeavors although a small selfish part of me will always wish for your possible return. Goodbye.
Yeah, the Bo one was my in road too. Bummer the algorithm never fingered this channel
That was beautiful. Much like the movie you’re reviewing, it was both entertaining as fuck and existentially terrifying (there are too many relatable moments in the avocado bagel section for me to count). This channel has always been a great source of esoteric insight and I selfishly wish it would continue (fuck your “needs”, I want content!! Me me me). Good luck man! I’ve enjoyed the ride.
Thank you, sir! I appreciate it.
Mostly lurked for about three years. Discovered you through the Salò video back in the spring of 2020. I can't believe it's been that long. Didn't always agree with you, but always found your commentary interesting, and your passion inspiring. So long, and good luck with whatever comes next.
I appreciate it. Thank you very much!
Sad to find you for the first time and it's your last video. This is fantastic 😀😭
Sorry for catching this one so late, its been great watching you for all this time. You'll be missed here!
Incredible video!
First time to the channel! Bye?
Oh, this is not a review, but a whole retrospective of the Daniels' work... hahaha... Appreciated - especially seeing the short, which seems to be what Everything Everywhere is based on.
And I really like the Hubert bit. Did you write that or did he?
Anyway, it looks like you put a lot of time to the production of these videos. Sorry to see you go.
Hubert wrote his own segment.
@@TheWeekIReview Does he have a channel? Please pass the word; I like his segment.
Anyway, I wish you all the best in your future writing. Maybe we will bump into each other again in the future.
It's been a fun ride man!
Sad to see you go, appreciated getting a long review to end it though! goodbye to RUclipss most handsome movie reviewer. Good luck with your future endeavours! If you re-brand the channel I'll be watching whatever it is!
Ha, thank you.
So tonight I’m watching The Heroic Trio
sorry to see this is your last video, but thank you for the content. all the best for your future
congratulations on your last video! i wish you luck in whatever comes next!
Thank you!
Gonna miss you hopefully its not the last we ever see you.
you will be terribly missed😢😢
We LOVE you Michelle Yeoh....❤
As soon as I saw this movie I knew it was my favorite. After watching it several times I think it's the best movie.
Thank you ❤️
thank you so much for everything
Thanks for everything
Man shame I lost this ride ( And about Oppenheimer hyped from the trailer)
Oh, fuck. I'm sorry to hear you retired from RUclips.
Your content is of such high quality, it's a shame you didn't reach a wider audience.
omg just found your channel... you'll be missed :(
Since so many people appreciate this movie and it's about parallel universes, I wanted to watch it entirely.
Oh boy what a torture, This movie was trying to be original for the sake of being original. It took me 5 times to get to the end. It was not original, not funny, didn’t trigger emotions, no suspense. Technically it was nicely done of course and the stunts are excellent, the pace of the story is fast, but that’s all. Let’s say it was professionally made.
I would hate to know you.
i miss the videos ;-;
I did a double take when I heard AdamSomething's voice.
He does good work!
I think multiverse were always there, trry pratchet has a multiverse, and while oth metaphocical absurd elements that ar takn sruiou and human, its there. I love the whole fun social criticim an the belief takien toits logical conclusion univere, and death, is the best.
Sliders, and wasnt italsways in scifi?! Also sliders tillit gets eem, its very strong on the how it affects characters, and limits whre they go reasonable till, he weird alien multivers thing that isnt good.
When they cry did it?
Ithink scifi always had some multivers aspect. i think?! Through agre mostly weird, sliders is still weird. And anime is anime.
Yay mukbang review an michelle yeoh review. Hey you are at last a waymond wih media. or joy?
Ok oher alec(?!) sooms like waymond. Joy?!
Yes thopefuly it goe for bmovie priorities weird scifi with heart
Wow the therapist story, wow, i knok enough that g depite being a real thing, is a conspiracy and propaganda point more often. Wow.
And while a hook is very impotant, a hook can be pretty much anything, anything to latch on. I lik batman and robin. It was a damned tproject aas a good movie so its a very fun movie. But it can be just a person to latch on doing fairly mundan stuf that can be very compelling. Or even just relaxing.
Done right somehing prsumely boring, can be un, or compelling, or weird enough to get interested.
And i love humanizing deeper comedy wih a point.Like the best dramas personally, also have a good us off humor.
I mean it nic if youhave nothing more to adhd out and , good sucess in whatever.
And you thought about ending things before . :P
Oh wingtrs is great, XD and its about imtimicy, right, or well more, wow it has layers.
Nope 💯 The best movie! Haven't be so obsessed since Pulp Fiction and The Matrix..
CinemaSins did it
Absolutely baffling statement.
CinemaSins really loved EEAAO. So did CinemaWins. Everyone who knows anything about movies loves this movie.
LOL
It was an okay movie.
Not great.
Definitely not anything anyone will be talking in 50 years.
I've already said how I feel about people like you.
@@TheWeekIReview
Let me restate this once more:
Definitely not anything anyone will be talking in 50 years.
@@TheWeekIReview Oh, and just to bring this point home - do you really think 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' is in any way better than 'Atfersun'?
And just to be clear - not that I believe anyone will remember either of these two movies, if they watched them in 50 yrs, do you really think 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' would in any way be considered better than 'Aftersun'?
@@TheWeekIReview And I know I'm posting way too much but I had to say just one last thing.
When you're, oh, I don't know, 50 years old, and you watch 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' and 'Aftersun' one after another, which one will have a deeper effect and/or emotional connection with you?
And that's just 2022. A shitty year for movies. No matter how many film school graduates say it's not.
I'm not saying the movies that we're talking about aren't good. But 'great' is a category that is reserved for a very few. And 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' is not among them.
I've already said how I feel about people like you, weirdo.
I can’t actually watch this because I want to watch the movie in question first, but I did want to at least say hi and thank you for your hard work all these years. I’m late to the party, must’ve subscribed a few months ago, but watching some of your videos it’s so clear that you are extremely skilled and your work has made you an excellent speaker and writer. I hope you know this and take that with you to whatever you happen to do next.
appreciate being the first person you sent your merch to!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻 i don’t think any other creator has made me love movies so much more deeply than you have, wish you the best of luck with everything Alec!
Oh wow, that means a lot. Thank you, my guy!
