    Very interesting to see this opened up. My friends from high school and I have played A&A together since middle school. Every time we get the chance to meet up since college, we play some version of A&A. We're so used to playing against each other and know regular strategies, that we usually try strange things in our games to see if they'll work. Even after a little over 10 years of playing with them, I still have fun every time.

    Why don’t you make a rulebook of 1940 global axis’s and allies

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  2 года назад +1

      I have a complete how to play for 1942.2 (ruclips.net/video/IKyWaC0vrtM/видео.html) and 96.3% of the rules transfer over. I think would be easier and faster to produce is a "difference" video. "So, you know how to play 1942.2? This is what you need to know to play 1940." Lay out the rules differences without rehashing everything in the 42.2 video.
      Would that be helpful?

    I got that game new in the mid 80s, and by then they had graduated to plastic pieces that you had to separate. The little fighters were kind of cute, I must say. And the bombers were huge by comparison.

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  2 года назад +1

      Agreed. While I think the sculpts were very cool, scale was clearly not a factor in the design process.

    • @shanejohns7901
      @shanejohns7901 2 года назад +1

      @@BoardGameNation I remember the game, because I played it quite extensively with neighborhood friends. I also remember it was the most expensive board game that I ever purchased -- like $59 or so new. That was pretty expensive back in the mid 80s. Especially for something that had no electronics. I figure what...15% costs to produce, and 85% intellectual property profit margin? I wonder what the store paid for it before marking it up to $59?
      And you're right. The molded plastic pieces looked of the same type used in models that you glue together. They had really good detail for their size.

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  2 года назад +1

      I am not sure how the costs are broken out. I imagine that the designing and printing of all the plastic units wasn't cheap. Either way, I think it was worth every penny! :)

  • @Balipio
    @Balipio 2 года назад +1

    I still have my original 1981 copy. It's not in mint original condition because I opened it and played it as a teenager, but all the pieces are there. I never saw it in a store. I only knew about the game because I saw it advertised in a brochure from another Avalon Hill bookcase game. You had to order it by mail, which took a few weeks. It is made of Acid paper, so unlike paper products made today from Alkaline, it will "Yellow" over time once unsealed. It's crazy to see this original game being sold on Ebay on rare occasions for $1,000. Best of luck with your game.

    I have a question if u can answer
    If there is an amphibious assault along with cruiser in a sea zone thag already contains enemy warships and defender scrambles fighters then in sea combat if all the warships are killed from both the sides except the transport then offloading troops (amphibious assault ) will happen at that time only or in next round

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  2 года назад +1

      If the sea combat ends with the sea zone classified as "friendly" to the attackers, the transports lands, offloads the troops, and they conduct combat. The types of troops or their origins don't matter.
      Hope this helps!

      Exactly. It will show any changes from the 1942.2 (ie, Carrier take two hits) and all the new stuff (At War, Mongolian Rule, etc). Everything else folks can find in the 1942.2 video.
      So, for example, if a viewer doesn't understand the idea of Offshore Bombardments. The difference video won't explain that because the rules are the same between the two games. They will need to go to the 1942.2 or other more specific video we have made on the topic.
      Does that make sense?

    A few initial observations:
    Germany uses the Swatiska, which has been banned in Germany since Allied Occupied IRL. This is an interesting choice considering the size of the German board gaming community, and the American Forces in Germany at the time of publication.
    Also, what is going on with French territories in edition? Are they impassable or neutral?

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  2 года назад +1

      I agree that the inclusion of the swastika while accurate may have hurt sales opportunities.

      While the Swastika isn't used on the roundels in the classic Milton Bradley version, it IS depicted on the box in what appears to be a Kriegsmarine flag. I'm not sure what the laws in Germany permit but the Milton Bradley version might have been banned too, or they might have had to make a special box without the Swastika for sale in that country.

    Board game nation can i do that in axis allies g40 version I start game in 1939 with each round meaning 6 months of actual time ipcs will be based on ipc value of land territory of nations and instead of following setup nations will start with no army on board they can buy and place armies anywhere in their home nation no non combat move and no mobilization before going to war but after going to war units can be placed only in territories with factories and then non combat and mobilization will be allowed
    Is this good idea
    Love from India

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  2 года назад

      First, you bought the game. You can do whatever you'd like as long as everyone playing agrees to the same rules.
      Starting with no units on the board creates an entirely new dynamic to the game. I would be curious how that would play out. I'm guessing there are some strategies that might break the game if a player could buy whatever they want and declare war whenever they want. Considering the IPC generation starts in the Axis favor, I would imagine giving them several turns of Collect Income phases before any combat was declared would also be an issue.
      Interesting idea! With a few tweaks, it might be fun!
      Here is another idea along those lines: Add up the value of all the units on the starting cards and give that many IPCs to the corresponding player. Players then take turns placing units in their territories or adjacent sea zones until they run out. Then, start the game as normal.
      Have fun!

    This is really neat. I was surprised to see Spain and Sweden considered pro-German neutrals, and it appears Iraq and Iran are pro-British, with Mexico and some others as pro-American neutrals given the shading.
    Here I thought it was an innovative and creative new system added in the 1940 games, but apparently it was one of Larry's original ideas that just got left by the wayside until he brought it back.

      @@BoardGameNation If you are interested in more details, the game was probably shrink wrapped by Pat Flory of The Citadel in Groton, CT. He shrink wrapped all of the games in that print run with NOVA Games and sold them at Origins or at his store on Bridge Street back then in Groton, near the exit to I-95. The machine used to 'cut' the shrink wrap is still at the store including the heat gun used to shrink the wrap on the games.

    Actually i have seen 1942 edition that u made but players who have only axis allies global edition they would only Like to learn about global not 1942
    I know it is difficult job for u
    But u are an amazing explainer
    That's why I request to do full axis allies global 1940 rules explanation
    😀

    • @BoardGameNation

      I appreciate your confidence. Here's the trick: nearly everything in the 1942.2 rules video will transfer over to Global. A "difference" video would be much shorter (and easier to produce) if it can refer players back to the giant rules video for 1942.2.
      It took months to make that video and it the idea of re-making all the examples and explanations for a game that has the same basic rules makes me want to pull out what is left of my hair. :)
      I'm traveling to a A&A event this weekend, hoping to come how with a ton of Global content. We will see how it all shakes out.

    The original rules were better. There are 2 major differences.
    1. All combat took place before movement.
    2. Each country had a special power.
    a, Germany could designate one armor unit to be te Afrika Korps for one turn. It became a 5-3.
    b. Russia could move 1 factory, one space per turn.
    3. Also, I don't think there were capitols, just factories.

    @13:54 I think that when I watch "Wings of the Luftwaffe" or anything from 1994 and before how much saner the actual WW2 generation handled the history and symbology of the war. It seems the further we get from the war the more insane the liberals of the West like pretending anything to the right of them is Hitler and kvetching to hysterical levels. Worse our history shows are becoming more insane where if you watch one now, even if it's just about the Battle of the Bulge or El-Almein you get a 15 minute lecture on the race politics of Nazism. I get it with Russia doing it (kinda I mean as usual former leftie government) but you'd almost think the way things are now that our ancestors were the Nazis not the ones who killed them.

      To each their own, but in my opinion the swastika is still a very active symbol of hate that for some is a source of pain and to others is rallying point for acts of violence. I understand that it is historically accurate in a WW2 and other feel differently, but I would rather not spend my free time playing with them.
      Now, if I went to a friend's place to play and he had them on the board used appropriately, I wouldn't make a big deal about. It just isn't something I would include in any game I host.
