    Honestly, your videos deserve much more traffic and likes. I'm an old guy who played the original A&A back in the 1980's. Anyway, when did they go cheap and not include the styrofoam piece holders in A&A games? Sure, those had scatter and mix issues (like when you accidentally drop the box--or move it a few inches), but the BYOB (Bring Your Own Bags) thing seems kind of cut-rate.

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! We are getting there. We are picking up new subscribers every day. Part if that is because of folks like you supporting us by watching, liking, commenting, and sharing with others. We truly appreciate it!
      I think part of the reason they got ride of the inserts is cost. Plus, as you pointed out, they didn't work that well anyway. I am ok with the BYOB practice if it helps the game survive and reduces the threshold to entry.
      There is an outfit that has filled the gap though. HistoricalBoardGame.com (I think that's right). Makes all kinds of inserts and accessories for A&A and lots of other games. Also, they are good members of the community. They frequently sponsor events and videos (none of mine, so far).
      They are worth checking out if you want to jazz up you table experience.

    Will a penny fit in the chips for the infantry

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  10 месяцев назад

      I'm not 100% sure I understand your question, but if you're asking if a penny will fit in the circle inside the chips (where the infantry base would sit), the answer is no. The circle is about 20% smaller than a US penny (best guess without having either of them in front of me).

    The Spin Off game Axis & Allies & Zombies includes an expansion to this game. It is a deck of cards that ports over the Zombie mechanics into 1942 2ndE. It is actually super fun to play this method but you need to buy both games in order to get to play this hidden version of the game.

    I love your channel! Might go for the 2nd edition soon. I do have a question for the first edition since an old friend and I that used to play back in the 90s, hooked up and are playing again. My question is If a lone sub attacks a lone ship and hits on the first roll thus taking the sea zone without a counter strike. Does the sub still have it's withdraw option or does it have to take the sea zone? Thank you so much for all your insight!

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for watching and for your kind words! 1942.2 is a great game! Sounds like you have been playing the Classic from 1984. Also a lot of fun!
      To your question, there are a few things here. First, if the sub entered a sea zone to do combat and a round ended with no defending units remaining, all attacking unit must remain in the sea zone. The "submerge" ability can only be used to avoid another round of combat. The sub would stay in the zone, but leave combat.
      Second, just to be clear, the Submerge ability doesn't cause the sub to leave the sea zone. It stays were it is, but is removed from the remainder of the battle. The sub could only leave the sea zone if all of the units in the attack retreated. Then, they would all have to go to the same sea zone and it would have to be somewhere that at least one of them came from. (Air units can still go wherever their fuel will take them.)
      Lastly, no one every owns/controls a sea zone. They are either friendly or hostile and that can depend on a number of favors.
      I hope all this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions!
      If you haven't already, please take a moment and subscribe to the channel. We have lots more coming for Axis and Allies!

    I believe they combined have enough pieces to play the 1942 (or 1941 for that sake).
    It would be nice to have the 1942 (and 1941) board to have those options too.

    We're still with you, and first thank you for all the rules you have clarified for us! This might be a dumb question but it's never happened to us before. This is from the early 80s second edition so no artillary or stuff like that. This one threw us a curveball... To make it quicker my question is. The US has a small fleet with 2 transports and 1 carrier with one fighter off the coast of Soviet Far East. They want to attack whats left of the Japanese fleet in the Japanese sea zone who have only have 1 transport. The US has a fighter in Western US that can make it to that sea zone assuming the US wins the battle, can the fighter in W. USA fly to the battle (4 moves) and land on the carrier that has room for it. Thank you so much for all your info!

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  2 года назад +1

      I don't have that map in front of me, but assuming that is 4 spaces and the carrier is moved into that sea zone... yes! The fighter can join the action!

    I was really looking forward to this version, but when i got it I was disappointed to find a rule book and setup chart full of mistakes, and poor components. When I first played it I found the USSR to be woefully under powered, which removed the back and forth infantry piles from the Russian border which I loved....I've gone back to playing revised edition instead and am looking for an anniversary edition. Hopefully it comes back into print sometime soon. However, thanks so much for the video it was great. Any suggestions on rebalancing this game?

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching! I agree. This is a great game, but the production problems are kind of a let down. Once you get past the corrections it can still be a lot of fun.
      As for balance, have you tried the Larry Harris GenCon 3.0 setup? Here are the details:
      Added UK-DD to Sea zone 7
      Moved UK-Cruiser from Sea Zone 14 to Sea Zone 13
      German Bomber in Germany moved to Ukraine
      Remove 1 German sub from Sea Zone 5
      Added 2 UK Infantry to India (Total now 5).
      This can be in Axis and Allies Online by Beamdog (available through Steam) or in the forums at Axisandallies.org ( www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/29339/larry-harris-semi-official-tournament-game-patch )

    In the map they could avoid drawing the ships in the far left, they are really ugly.

      @@BoardGameNation I meant that ussr gets 4 battleships reserves and germany only gets 2 and germany uses 1 of them to setup. Does russia even built battleships? And also I have doubt
      What happens if a sub attacks a battleship and scores a hit? is that battle ship Sunk immediately or it absorbs that hit (no destroyers involved).

      Yeah. Sorry. This was one of my very first videos and it has some typos in the graphics. The pinned comment has the correct and complete list.

    man i cant believe how cheap and shitty the Axis and Allies sets have gotten. The factories used to be real 3D plastic pieces you could place on the board. And there used to be real game money you issued to players on each turn. What a joke

      Haha! It's funny that you say that. We did a walk through of every version of the game and said much the same thing about the 1942.2 Edition. Here is that video if you care to take a look.
