Hi Alexander - I own and have played Napoleon, Alexander, and Rommel not played the fleet one due to some not as good reviews. Napoleon is by far the best in the field commander series followed by Alexander, Rommel you can have some fun with but becomes to much a game about supply and battle plans advantage. Also it doesn't feel like it has anything to do with Rommel at all, which is a shame as most people buy into the idea that it does. On another note i'm a U.k. board gamer, got into it myself in the last 3 years, no game groups where i live unfortunately and some games hard to get hold off, hence i do pay for shipping for my lnlt games. So I just wanted to let you know your channel The players Aid along with Grant means a lot to myself and other gamer's who live away from groups and retailers. THANK YOU for the GREAT WORK you guys do.
Great video. Very helpful. I've just purchased the game andI have a question I hope you can answer.Regarding the French battle plan marker "Volley". Under Inf: Atk there is (+4/+0) Under Cav. Atk. there is (+2, +2) Why are there two numbers and when is the second number used. Thank you in advance. Tom
Thanks for this video. I've avoided getting this game because I'm not interested in the subject matter. However, I may well reconsider after watching this video and hearing your comments. I have also considered Fleet Commander Nimitz, which would fit more with my taste. Have you tried that one?
Kory North I have not played Nimitz, I want to, but it's expensive and I've heard it's a mixed bag. At some point I'll get to it because the topic is one of interest. I have almost zero interest in otter Napoleonic games and if this was the only one I played in my life is be more than happy
As noted in the comments section of your unboxing vid, the counters are printed back to front - i.e. reduced side is printed on counter front, not the underside. So disappointing, and surprised you haven’t chipped DVG for this stupid mistake. Why not? Happened to me, and it’s just bad quality control. Great video, keep it up.
Whilst it is somewhat annoying (I don't think I noticed it when I was unboxing it) It doesn't detract from the game play, so I don't care all that much. On top of that I got it at a very good price in a ding and dent sale. Now, had I paid $90 for this game brand new when it first came out that might be a different story. Or if the counters were not centered correctly I would definitely have something to say about that. My copy of Phantom Leader Deluxe has some counters that are horribly centered and half the numbers cannot be read, which IS very disappointing. But the reverse side printing in Field Commander Napoleon is something I personally can overlook, but can 100% see why people wouldn't.
I'm interested in purchasing this game, but I'm curious about one thing; a reason I find myself drawn to war games and related games is because they teach the history of their setting as well, so how does Field Commander fair in that regard?
That particular question is somewhat difficult to answer, and that's because I don't know all that much about the Napoleonic era, so I don't know how accurately it teaches and models everything. With that said, the Strategic aspect is quite broad and the AI a little random/reactionary. The Tactical aspect gives you a bit more interesting history in the way the different units move, and what they can do, but it's no way near the crunchiest game out there.
@@ThePlayersAid i mean, this is a very high level game. The order system hints what happened at the time with maneuver warfare and how they act as force multipliers. But it is a very high level playing field.

another game you encouraged me to pick up thanks
With your interest in the Pacific Theatre of Operations I would highly recommend Field Commander Nimitz
I just got this for my birthday so thanks for making it look easy
Thanks for the review! Totally gonna get this. From now on I'm gonna start using the word, "Cakerun"! ;)
I am familiar with small unit tactics and this game sounds right up my alley. Can't find this game anywhere, without it costing $100 or more.
That's fairly standard pricing. I got mine at a ding and dent sale at gencon from Cool Stuff Inc for $65
Cake Walk, Milk Run, Piece of Cake, Easy as Pie :-)
I find it funny you blanked on Field Commander ALEXANDER!

I found the answer.
Units in column always fail their shock check.
Also, units in melee get +3/+3 to their combat value.
What exactly does +3/+3 mean?I understand that in melee a unit receives a +3 but how or when does the 2nd +3 come into play?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I spent a lot of money on this game. Guess I'm just used to GMT quality...
Nice video! Made me go and buy the game :)
It's Pie!
Off topic question Alexander- Are you British and were born in England and came here as a child and are losing your a British accent ? Just curious.
Jason C born and raised in Southern England. Moved to the US in 2011. I would say my accent is fading (everyone back home would agree too).
+The Players Aid ahh, ok losing it pretty quickly! Well love your videos keep them up.
Boop!
