How a Mauser 98k works

- The Karabiner 98 kurz (["carbine 98 short", often abbreviated Kar98k or K98k) is a bolt-action rifle chambered for the 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge that was adopted on 21 June 1935 as the standard service rifle by the German Wehrmacht. It was one of the final developments in the long line of Mauser military rifles. Although supplemented by semi- and fully automatic rifles during World War II, it remained the primary German service rifle until the end of the war in 1945. Millions were captured by the Soviets at the conclusion of World War II and were widely distributed as military aid. The Karabiner 98k therefore continues to appear in conflicts across the world as they are taken out of storage during times of strife.

what about the Nagant?
Mr Sisel the Mosin Nagant rifle was not so innovation the Mauser made the first bolt action rifle in the world
SKS>NAGANT
The Nagant was obsolete even by WWI standards. There's a reason it has the nickname "garbage rod". Not that it's a terrible rifle, it's just lacking compared to most others.
What about the Enfield?

This weapon,"Gewehr Karabiner 98 Kurz" was a revolutionary change in Rifles.
Not really
Quite a bit, like that bolt action and magazine was a big change.

by the time of ww2, it was a dated yet solid design, not an ideal rifle but a workable and proven one.
Grandparents: "why do i hear boss music?"
I love it when it Scoped
These animations are wonderful but I wish they wouldn't shake the image back and forth when the rifle is "firing." Makes it more difficult to focus on the moving parts and see what exactly is happening.
I think that's the fault of the software, not the animator. The software was, from what I know, designed with the primary purpose of showing how guns work, recoil and all.
yes, a little less shake for the recoil, and showing a flash where the powder burns would be excellent improvements to the visualization.
pretty awesome even so
Спасибо, наглядно показал принцип работы
I got into an argument with my friends about which gun would be the best for a time traveler to give to a medieval nation and I argued the 98K would be the best for its range, effectiveness and simplicity. I think it would be possible to reverse engineer and produce in the 15th century, assuming cased ammunition is possible to create.
And how exactly would you mass produce it without factories and its advance and precice machines necessary to make this gun?
The "simple" iner mechanism of this gun is way too advance for those medieval times, if armies of the colonial times didn´t wanted the muskets with similar inner mechanism due to the complicity and because such enfinner was in its infancy in those times, I doubt that an even backward time period nation would be different.
@@capscaps04 You right.
To be honest I rather gave those medieval people Mosin-Nagants rather than Kar98k... Cuz the Mosin is just simpler to make. And ofc, ignoring the obvious production issues still.

I can see a good number of similarities between this rifle and the Springfield 1903 in the mechanism.
The Springfield is actually a derviative of an Enfield rifle, which was essentially a British Mauser. So, it's understandable for you to find similarities.
Fun Fact: Germany actually sued the US for using the 1903, as they classified as unlicensed Mausers, and was forced to pay royalties.

what mechanism pushes the empty shell out of the gun?
The extractor pulls the casing down to the ejector which pushes the casing out of the gun. It sticks out slightly so when the case hits the ejector it goes flying
The beauty!
👏👏👏👏 👍
wow nice
It's a nice rifle, how many bullets in one magazine.

Iron sight. Longer the firing range, higher the sight. Because of the bullet drop.
Does the bolt handle have a spring return?
Nope. No bolt action of the time had spring returns, not even straight pulls like the K31 or the M27.

What if we push triggle and load, will it fire??
I have the same question. My feeling is that, with regular loading speed it won't fire, because this procedure can not give the hammer and pin enough speed to reach the primer. But if you pull the hammer backward then release, or directly hit the tail of hammer I guess it would fire. (These are all my guess)
No there is safty
My question is, with shotguns, this is called slam-fire or something, is it still called that but with a sniper rifle
not understand wher the force is coming

umm im curious, what about the expanding gases in the barrel? all the rifles with gas-operated reloading system worked around the expanding gas problem by diverting it to be the propellant to push the piston back. how about this rifle then? would it be too hot to handle at some point?
Its a bolt action rifle not a semi or fully automatic so the gas isnt diverted anywhere, the gas leaves the barrel with the bullet, and i dont think this has a piston since its a bolt action, but my memeory of this knowledge is rusty so maybe im off, oh lastly i wont get to hot since its not firing so fast, unless you are fast at moving the bolt and loading 5 rounds
it has a locking lug. you lock and unlock it by turning the bolt.
This is wrong, the K98 is a control feed system.

Oil for the gun
@@jerryudonneedtoknow3903 The Mauser rifles don't have that. What they do have is a bolt disassembly tool in the stock, which is the disk you see set into the wood. Why this model shows a hollow area in the wood, I have no idea.
@@billmelater6470 ah thank, I don't know why I said that
@@jerryudonneedtoknow3903 I think it's an honest mistake. Many rifles do have cleaning supplies in the stocks. Though as far as these older bolt action rifles are concerned, I think the Lee Enfield is the only one that had it. At least that I am aware of.
