hey justin, i just don`t have the possibility to have a local guitar teacher where i live. so i really appreciate what you doing here on youtube. thanks a lot man! your videos are by far the best ones. there is a real structure into all your lessons. you always take your time an explain all the important little things. so, i just want to say thank you. keep up the good work!
You know when you have mastered the previous lesson and still find this lesson hard.. Not too hard, but just exactly as hard as it needs to be so you could challenge yourself to learn it. You KNOW you are learning something. You KNOW you are growing. Thanks Justin!
hey Justin, great module, thank you so much for all that input! what I was wondering in general but also specific to this video: as some of the licks are eighths, do I also have to play the licks in shuffle-rhythm or should I stick to straight rhythm or is both possible? Not sure whether straight sounds 'right' over a shuffle beat :/ Cheers
Justin, you are a pretty darn good guitarist, and a charitable soul, to be Teaching as much as you do!... I've seen Many of your videos.. About halfway through This one, I was GOING to write a comment to say, "Justin, you shouldn't use words like "flick off", it might make you sound less professional than I know you ARE." But then I watched the video to the END, and after NOTING the TOTALLY PROFESSIONAL WAY, you not only taught these little Blues Licks, but took the time to ensure anyone watching would even have the PICKING correctly, SHOWING the little phrases INSIDE the licks, that could be a Repeating pattern to build up SPEED, I was EMBARRASSED, that I was going to say something critical, to a man who SO COMPLETELY and Elegantly Teaches the Masses!... God Bless you, man!
Glad to hear it! Have you got backing tracks to play over? www.justinguitar.com/products?type=jam-tracks Cheers 😊 | close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide [ www.justinguitar.com/ ] & Moderator on JustinGuitar Forum
wow you are the best teacher by far. You could easily be playing in any of the famous bands in the word, exept you would blow those other guitarists away. Thats my opinion, and I am a retired judge so I should know !!!
It would be really cool if you did a companion “call and response” video where you just play over a backing track and leave space for me to repeat back these licks. Cool for me anyway. Why that would be cool - If I know what the key and position is I can usually play simple licks more or less by ear. Anyway - great lesson! Just the thing I need right now - build my vocabulary. So Thanks! For me it’s easier to learn new licks by playing them than by memorizing them note for note.
Justin- I get the licks without issue and they sound good, but my picking seems to always be a lot different than yours. To be honest, I don't think about the picking until you go over it. Should I work on picking styles closer to what you demonstrate, or keep what seems to be coming naturally? [been playing for 2 years]. Thanks
+JustinGuitar - Thanks Justin. Not certain what it is called, but I think I "economy-pick" more than "alternate-pick." It seems easier [which concerns me], as economy picking requires a slower hand [easy for us older learners] and alternate picking seems to require better control over hand and pick position.
Many thanks for the super thanks and supporting the channel. It means a lot. Cheers 😊 | Richard_close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Approved Teacher www.justinguitar.com
Thanks Justin! Quick question, when you were showing the picking and muting for that last lick. I could hear your string scratching against the fret. What is that? It happens to me and I thought I was doing something wrong. It sounds like I'm scraping metal of the frets if I bend the same note several times.
I don't seem to get lick #4 working when playing to a backing track, because usually I can't play eigthths because most of the blues are in a shuffle but I don't get the rhythm down in shuffle... Only works if I play it as triplets. Am I doing something wrong?
Play it with your ears working overtime to just get the vibe and feel of the lick. Forget counting for a moment and listen. Cheers 😊 | close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Moderator [ www.justinguitar.com/ ]
Same, I can do it really fast and well with the picking hand doing what feels natural but trying to learn the alternate way - I've always alternate picked but never sort of 'ghost' picking like that where you don't pluck the string on the hammer-off and pull-ons, taking me ages but can tell once I get it down it'll be super useful
For the benefit of all.. I asked Justin a question about this lesson and got an answer: Q: First.. you know you are a grate teacher right? And as it appears, also a grate person. Sorry but I had to say it.. I see my self as your student. I donate monthly, but i see it as a reasonable fee to pay for your classes. I liked your attitude to the whole issue and I wish more people would join this path. Any way.. a question if you'll have the time.. Lick #4 the repetitive one.. You said to alternate pick it and make the hand moving even if if it not picking (like when pulling of), and that it might be useful someday. It is that it is hard and not natural to me. My hand picks the opposite to what you suggest. For example.. the third note i want to pick upwards and you suggest downwards Why is it so important? A: Keeping a down pick on the beat will help you stay in time and locked into the groove, but it's not essential and is something that most players will deviate from so if it feels bad in this lick then do it as is comfortable, but try to remember it for future licks and things you play that it's a good general principle! hope that helps! Appreciate the support! :)

Ty sir
That repeating lick #4 is incredible, the icing on the cake. Just that lick would drive the motif of a solo. Thank you Justin!

This is what I’ve been looking for to take my playing to the next level. Thanks!
Thanks a lot for that muting tip on the top of bends, I had never heard about that and it does make a huge difference.
I'm not a beginner but i still watch your videos cuz they are so awesome and informative!
+20gonsie Cheers!
+20gonsie Me, too............I've been playing over 40 years but I still learn things from Justin, all the time.
+20gonsie same
Best guitar lessons on YT. Love it!
Nicely played Justin.
I tried the two first , and it sounds good lick 2 and lick 1 in this order.
wow you are the best teacher by far. You could easily be playing in any of the famous bands in the word, exept you would blow those other guitarists away. Thats my opinion, and I am a retired judge so I should know !!!
Thanks Justin. Lick number 2 heard in Cream's Strange Brew:) Would be cool if people post the songs where they hear these licks for reference.
Dani california solo starts with the same lick too ^^
thank you justin!!
One of the best classes out there .. or perhaps the best for a beginner..
Great tips man, muting the bends of course, this old dog learning new tricks, ever greatful.

+northof50now I'd try what I suggest and see how it feels! I usually recommend going with what feels good :)

All of those licks sound badass.
Brilliant guitar lesson as always.

He's explaining it in another Video. It is probably a chemical (or physical?) reaction of the Materials when they get warm. You aren't doing it wrong.
Great!
exellent

Thanks a dozen for taking the time to answer. I will keep practicing :)
When justin says you should know these licks well then you should know them
Lick 4 is killing me

Wow nice video
Justin is the gift that just keeps on giving. So many bullshitters trying to teach on RUclips. Justin knows his stuff
Okay Justin - how the heck do I get that tone please??
