  • In this video, you will see how i breed this Over Halfmoon Betta Pair.
Both of them bred for the first time.
Female betta have lots of eggs.
The Male betta was not able to fertilize all of the eggs.
    Most of the eggs rot.
The male betta ate those unfertilized eggs as much as he can. I saw him very bloated. But there were too much unfertilized eggs, so i decided to help him and removed those eggs.
Saving about 80-100 betta fry that have hatched.
I use circular container to breed bettas.
Because after the fry have hatched and need to feed them with daphnia, the daphnia will swim circularly around the whole container.
If the breeding container is square or rectangular, daphnia will be stuck to the corners of the container. Betta fry that are in the middle of the container will not be able to get food and they will die.
Higher success rate of raising betta fry if they are in a circular container.

    • @6maquariumfish
      @6maquariumfish  4 года назад +38

Daphnia and bbs can swim around the circular container. With that, the fry will be able to find and eat them.
Rectagular or square tanks tend to trap the daphnia and bbs in the corner.
Small fry have limited sight and movements in their early days, fry wont find their food if food is trapped in the corners

However, there is another type of betta that the male is also short finned. They are called plakats (plakad in thailand)

constant water change can be harmful to betta fry. Its best to leave the water unchanged and let it age to build up some infusoria for them to consume. This is common technique here in the Philippines.

This is a male and female. They normally have to be kept separate, except for breeding, or else they will kill each other. Actually they can kill each other while breeding. Probably why they didn't show that part. But that's also why he kept the female in the bottle as much as possible, and then removed her as soon as he saw they had laid eggs. Also, you can keep at least 4-5 females together (no more than 10 females) in a 20-30 gallon tank. It's called a sorority tank. Even then, you have to have plenty of hiding spaces and know how to properly care for them.

    • @6maquariumfish

If betta fry can put the tiny mosquito larva to their mouth, that would be good! But if its too large for the fry, find a way to remove them and feed to your adult bettas

2 weeks (14days) old fry should be transfered into a bigger container to grow faster. You can easily remove mosquito larvae in the bigger container. Feed them daphnia everyday.

Actually, bettas can live without oxygen aeration. But in this breeding, i am avoiding oil film build up at the surface. Easiest solution is to add aeration.
You can add more plants if you wont add aeration. It will help eliminate oil film too
