This thing should be called The Lattrice. It doesn't come with turn signals or lane change warning system since we all know Lattrice drivers don't need them.
the problem with IT nowadays is that they rarely spend efforts on User Interface design. They have 98% requirements to provide all the capability/functionality and 1% design restrictive requirements and maybe 0-1% UI requirements. This leaves developers so much freedom with whatever the f heck they want to do with the UI and hence the bombardment of vomiting UI everywhere. Modern car LCD tech dash and infotainment design is absurd and honestly the biggest push back for me to get into them. Really well thought out UI design costs as much as developing the functionality and nobody ever spends that much effort no more. I would not spend my money on such products either.
tbh there's like an obsession over who can have fanciest tech right now, especially for premium brands like the 3 Germans + whatever tries to compete with them. It's probably the customer base's fault for always asking for new things, but I wonder when will they realize the limit of "that's enough".
I get really pushed back when I see capacitive buttons on steering wheel and HVAC that's buried in the infotainment or a separate screen. I know ppl can get used to it, but I really would appreciate a car with very simple but high quality Infotainment UI.
Are you saying that software designed by engineers tends to have bad UI? :) I think Pro/Engineer (or Creo) is a pretty egregious example of this, Windows 8.1 too. Things that are logical to engineers, like swiping in from the right side of the screen to access the start menu, or from the the left of the screen to change applications, don't always make sense to users -- especially when they accidentally activate the "shortcut" and then wonder what the heck is going on! Even worse is when the engineers are told to add certain designs like the ribbon or full-screen settings menus, without any usability testing as to whether it's actually a good idea...
@@TassieLorenzo engineers dont come up with functional requirements they just implement them

A good review Mark. You are getting quite good at this. I look forward to your reviews.
Here he is ladies and gents, the king of understatement.
We just took delivery of one. We test drove the BMW X2, the Volvo XC40 and the Audi Q3. We almost bought the Audi but we’ve had experience with that 2.0 liter and didn’t have good luck (My wife traded in her MK6 GTI for the Mercedes). This felt really solid and quiet (I also have a Camaro SS 1LE so something on the cushier side for the wife was needed). Sure it’s a bit too techy on the infotainment side but after driving it for a few weeks it’s second nature. We basically use the “hey Mercedes” feature to set everything anyway. It’s a Mercedes so I did negotiate a good price on the extended warranty.
May I ask what is the appeal of a CUV? It doesn’t handle as well as a sports sedan and it lacks the practicality of a larger SUV.
@@wyw201 Not everyone is interested in sporty handling. Although this isn’t too bad with adaptive suspension. We didn’t need a full size SUV. I already have a GMC Sierra. It’s the segment. Most people want a quite nice riding car.
What was your experience with the Audi 2.0 liter*?
@@artagain8977 Wouldn't the Sierra be the nicest riding vehicle on the road?
Why would anyone even buy this? If you want a small quiet CUV just lease a Buick Encore. ZERO down and like $179 a month. I mean, no one is going to take a second look at you when you are driving a mercedes cuv.
You've convinced me, I'm getting this as a first car for my daughter, it'll be great for her confidence.
Dad, I just want to say that I'd be more confident in a well-sorted C6 Z06 with a few extra sets of tires.

Wow, what a surprise. I was sure this one would be panned - especially since it was established right off the bat that it was Latrice's car. Is it really a compact? It looks sub-compact. The CRV, a compact, looks enormous in comparison. And good though this little Benz may be, I personally would prefer the more practical CRV. Savage is right - it's very much a Latrice car.
Gotta respect car companies that they managed to convince people they needed high profit margin cars like these instead of much better value hatchbacks and sedans. True marketing genius.
Hope you guys do a review of the plug-in 250e when it comes out. I wonder when that will be for the US market?
I honestly thought the old GLA especially the AMG was a great car, I’d love to see you review it one day
I respect your honesty. The main reason I'm looking at a GLA is because Mercedes in their infinite wisdom decided not to offer the B class in Canada anymore, which is a shame. Our current B class is the perfect (for us) combination of size, performance, luxury and fuel economy, and it rides higher than normal. For me, the GLA would be the next best thing.
The B Class is a really cool car, I've seen a couple in Germany. Maybe the GLB would suit you more.
Cannons is a great band that more people need to know about.
Yes I found out about them about 2 or 3 months ago and can't stop listening to them! My fav song at the moment is "holding on". Have that on repeat lol
Lets go for a stroll!
The AWD version of this is around $40k and you still have to pay extra if you want heated seats, vented seats, heated steering wheel, leather, and adjustable lumbar. Really tough to justify over the loaded versions of the Rav4, CX5, etc, you're basically paying $5-10k for the MB badge.
True. But don’t forget you also get the privilege of paying much more for service.
Yup, but it's a Mercedes, and that prestige badge is all the difference. I'd much rather have the CX-5, which has an equally nice interior. OK, Mazda is way behind on infotainment features, but at least it has the basics. Their safety tech is subpar, too, but still better than anything from just a few years earlier.
@@markmiller3279 you do get more tech and refinement compared to those cars stated above.
But it shouldn't be compared with them. This Mercedes-Benz competes with the Lexus UX.
I'm honestly happy they offer it without all of those features
@@2strokeFORever exactly!! Why should you pay extra for something you're not going to use?

"It's not horrible". That about sums it up.
I am interested to see your review on the new GLA45 AMG. Thanks
“Holy Christ! I just have to get it right and then never touch it again.”
Damn that’s funny. So right.
When my ex-wife came to pick her dog up on Sunday in the Blue 2021 GLB that we ordered together, I was reminded how great that car looks. The GLA is too swoopy and curvy but the GLB is properly square. We never got a GLK so when the GLB came out it went straight to the top of the list. Ours... or shall I say hers, was around 47K with everything we wanted. I cringe at anyone paying close to 60K for a non 35 "AMG-lite" version of these though.
Nice that you like it. I'd probably get the GLB, too, for the extra space.
summed it up great in final thoughts... it's a lease and dump just like with most german cars not wearing special M/AMG/RS badge
The wheel design is rarely tasteful and sane, that simple-beauty thing. Close to what OZ Racing used to offer with the Superturismo before they replaced it with the -GT. Although spoke count is an uneven number, which matters more to the visual style more than people might think and in my perception is inferior to even count especially with somewhat higher spoke count.
AEZ Radon was a beautiful wheel, too, with a somewhat lower spoke count.
I have wheels on my car that are in that style irreplaceable and in 16" which seems to be utterly shunned these days, a distinct gaping hole in a sea of 15" and 17". And don't get me started on 16" tire format choice.
6:29 Interesting to have revs in both analog and digital style. I like it. (As long as you can customize which ones to hide.)

You ever going to review the gla45 amg?
One of the biggest reasons to get one of these is that you can still get a handbuilt engine from Affalterbach on the 45 for less than a typical GLC 300. If you're into the hot hatch thing.
Hand built just sounds like it’s unreliable.
@@Rudenbehr Don't worry, at this price point it isn't really hand-built, though it does get some extra attention from AMG staff.
It's a good looking little thing but the price is just crazy.
Your final thoughts segment with the out of focus car in the back, is an improved look vs just you in the home garage
I feel like he had his final thoughts right after driving it, rather than a couple of days later as he usually does, I won't say whether that's a good thing or not!
The B shot of the fly crawling on the car's ass was glorious! LOL
It's a crosstrek with a real engine... and an amg option. Pretty neat little ride.
This makes me curious how something like a CX-30 stacks up to the 'premium' brands. I know, the new GLA is slightly bigger than the previous one, which means it's also larger than the CX-30, but since Mazda wants to step up their game and become 'premium' how much would or wouldn't it be a competitor to a vehicle like this? I like these videos, however I've always found it difficult to place the driven vehicles in comparison to their competition. Now Mazda is a good example, but it's not just that, as the competition is hardly mentioned. When would it be a better idea to get a CX-30, or when would it be a better idea to consider a BMW X1? It also makes me curious about the lower entry models, like the A class has an A250, but also an A200 and A180 that have a completely different suspension setup (torsion beam from A200 and down). How does the Mazda torsion beam stack up to that I wonder? Same for the audio, does a CX-30 do it better or is it not even close?
Goose, that GLA had you sweating! I'd be curious to see what the 45 does.
Got to drive one since I work at a Benz dealer. Turns this thing into a hot hatch. Using the paddle shifters makes it really fun.
It you just add all these CUVs into the category of hatchbacks, then we have more hatchbacks on the market than ever before. After your evaluation, it would be hard not to recommend buyers look into this model. It's good looking enough, but I would get an extended warranty and check to see if the dealer offers concierge service with the purchase and/or lease. That's an important value when compared to the competition. At 40k, there is a lot to choose from and the Q3 comes to mind. I guess the Mazda CX-30 too if someone wants to save 8K.
I'd definitely take the Q3. It looks better and is mechanically straightforward, so likely to be more reliable and easier to work on.

If I can afford a Mercedes, I will just buy this. It is a "Mercedes", cute, small for city life, an SUV kinda, & quite comfy for that price.
My only complaint about this and the GLB is that the seats are hard and uncomfortable. Especially for a “luxury/premium” car. Other than that, my GLB (2023) has been a hard worker, and a very practical vehicle. But the uncomfortable seats actually drove us to buy a 2024 Ram Rebel with the leather seats as our main family vehicle.
Great review. Little feedback though: How a car handles on the track adds zero value to me.

It seems with this new generation, Mercedes finally figured out how to prioritize where to put the money in areas that matter while balancing MSRP. Hyundai and Mazda are masters at this game.
@@panzer_TZ comfortable seats should be one of them, at least in the front. can easily be improved via seat covers with padding underneath tho. also sorts marks swamp ass
True. The latest generation of Mercedes interiors is much better than any older one. It's a shame about the seats, but other reviewers haven't complained about them. I'm sure the heat and lack of ventilation made them seem worse.
I really like how Mercedes is placing the infotainment screens up in a band with the instrument panels. That's the perfect place for them, easy to see and touch. I'm sure they'll eventually be one big screen.
You'll have a very similar experience with VW's TRock except not as premium feel as the Merc. Coming up soon, I guess :)

Mercedes prices skyrocket with options, might as well get a more fun Alfa Stelvio instead.
Talk about unreliable! You want to know your mechanic far too well, get an Alfa. Additionally, the interior is crummy. It looks good in photos, but in person it's very cheap-feeling, with a sea of plastic bits that don't match. The ergonomics are weird, too. Yeah, it's fun to drive, but that's not why anyone buys in this segment.

I always wonder how these cars would do with a better set of tires.
They have to be run flats. These come with them and I think no spare.
I always liked the previous gen GLA as a compact CUV with no illusions to being offroad.
This one is getting too bubbly looking.

Please make some comments about the side windows. The front windows. And your position on the seat. I want you to compare where your head is in relation to the windshield header. Compare this to the alpha Stelvio. Compare it to any Mazda. Mercedes has push the windshield header a little farther up and forward. And you’re not sitting in the apex of a triangle. I find that particular kind of headroom much more comfortable than an Alfa or a Mazda that push the visors into my forehead

I love the GLA I find it to be spacious, good on gas mileage and versatile enough to keep me interested and enjoy the drive each time I am in it and going for a drive. The interior is definitely ahead of many competitors and I enjoy the UI it’s adaptable, the sound system is a noticeable upgrade and plus this isn’t a track vehicle you should have taken the 45 for that. A lot of people ragging on this vehicle in particular in the comments probably have some sort of hyper masculinity complex where they rag on people for seeking an entry level mercedes. There isn’t anything wrong with that, enjoy it for what it is and love your car whether you’re a man or a woman. I wouldn’t spit on you for driving a Honda Accord or for you barely affording your ford fusion car note because you felt more manly in it. I see a bunch of jack asses in alfa romeros and civics that aren’t impressive either.
