in his whole career so far, Embiid did not have any 70+ played games in season and let alone 80+.
Embiid is just loud and americans love it. He is trashtalker, dunks a lot, screams etc. but when matter most (playoffs) he is blaming everyone else by throwing his teammates under the bus. On the other hand, we have Jokic who is a silent winner, who rises on occasion when it matters the most. And conclusion is this: Embiid is a loud showman and great season player who dunks on low tiered teams and centers and Jokic is playoff competitive guy who can bring championship as the main player.
But alas, NBA is big show which favors loud guys like Embiid and that is the main reason why Embiid is in the same sentence as Jokic. Jokic proved himself to be way better than Embiid in a lot of ways.

7:34 Embiid travels not once but twice on the same play. Picks up pivot foot before dribbling to start drive then once he comes to a stop, changes his pivot again. Now by no means is this an Embiid problem alone, but I think we’d find a lot of the offensive explosion we’re seeing would come back to earth if they prevented offensive players from getting an upper hand by playing fast and loose with the rules.

I think he took himself out of the MVP race by ducking the Nugs. Voters will think, 'he has his one MVP, he hasn't played like an MVP in the postseason, and now this. He's not getting another vote until he shows us something more. Too many other worthy candidates deserve consideration for him to be chosen.

Mental drive to win, the killer instinct, should be one of the top qualifiers for MVP, GOAT or any measure of greatness.
It's almost forgotten among all the stats...
Rating someone that does amazing things when they feel like it over someone always fighting for a win is ridiculous.
Eventually it'll just be a highlights competition.
It's not called Most Skilled Player or Best Individual Player for a reason.
A player that makes the TEAM better, will ALWAYS be the Most *Valuable* Player.

Here are some more true stats which beg the question: Why should Embiid choke? Embiid showed the world on January 16th that he could score 41 points to Jokic's 25. Year before that Embiid scored 47 to Jokic's 24. Overall the eight times they have met here are the stats Embiid to Jokic: games won 6 to 2, average points 27.6 to 22.3, rebounds 11.3 to 10.1, assists 4.4 to 6.9, steals 1.3 to 1.1, blocks 2.0 to 1.1. In their 8 meetings Embiid has better stats in 5 out of 6 categories. There is no reason for him to fear Denver or Jokic. Can't help it if your imagination of some kind of MVP revenge taking place in Denver was not been fulfilled. You even stoop so low as to create another reason: "He is missing games on purpose so that he will not have the pressure of trying to win another MVP," (paraphrased). Just last week you know you were saying the opposite

Jokic beat out Embiid in every other stat except couple less pts per game and less than one block per game I think.. Jokic smashed records last season and post season. Broke multiple Wilt Chamberlain records.. Won the championship.. Yet, his skin color wasn't correct, so he couldn't win MVP.. Im so glad we got away from treating people different because of their skin color and found the best solution by treating people differently because of their skin color (nothing in history shows that won't work!!)

Embiid wouldn't be hurt so much if he'd quit flailing and falling to the ground with every light graze. I've seen my grandma take out an entire endcap of Dr Pepper without stumbling, yet this behemoth of a man can't withstand a stationary wrist brushing against his shoulder. Quit with the dramatics - it makes you look weak, and that floor you flop on has less give than an arm.

Embiid should've sat out longer than he did. All these takes about how he's ducking smoke and resting because he doesn't want to compete are toxic and likely lead to him rushing back from injury against Golden State. He's the reigning MVP of the NBA why people can't appreciate his greatness without constant scrutiny is beyond me.

  • @l00neyville

I also shared this view that Embiid was avoiding a duel with Jokic but after watching the game against golden state warriors he looked really hurt. He was limping, at one point he was going towards a lose ball and his left knee gave way and he fell down. It didn't help that a gsw player landed on the hurt knee at the end.
Chasing the mvp last season made him have nothing left for the post season so he'll definitely miss more games than 5+ in the future.
He started his nba career with knee issues and adding all that muscle and bulk compounded to the issue.

Whether it’s on purpose or not, the perception is, Embiid plays against the bottom feeders of the NBA and ends up posting numbers. And the data shows him sitting against upper echelon teams. Only Embiid can change that perception around.
Just like the playoffs. He disappeared against the Celtics in that last playoff game when he had to opportunity as “MVP” to step up.
