This game is an absolute gem. It is free to play and the characters are all useable. The current event is so much fun. I don’t think a mobile game has gotten my attention as much as this for 2023.

Fun fact: Said sentient pair of gauntlets is based on Roland. In one line he mentions that "Someone"(still don't know if he's referring to himself or the guy that wore him as that) drove to the moon. Roland goes to the moon in "Orlando Furioso". He is the black silence...
Thing is, I wrote the script then while editing I was like "Oh shit, I forgot about the OST" since most gacha's have a great ost and its pretty hard to say anything new in regards to liking music, I couldn't think of much to say. So I really only added the one line of me saying how it fits the theme.
Just one point to add on. I really like the way that developers are playing with different mechanics in the current special event. They are not just using their basic combat system for everything, but are experimenting with entirely different systems. That bodes well for the ability of the game to stay interesting over time.
This game makes me wish that we have more protagonists that are actual characters and not a self insert only, the first two chapters had a weird pacing but kept me interested still and Vertin is one the main reasons (with the voice acting and the good looking sprites), I find her character really interesting and wanted to see more about her. I'm about to begin chapter 3 and it seems to tell more about Vertin's past which I'm here for it, with also Sonetto plus Matilda as well (which is one of my favorites units for now and one of the reasons is she's F r e n c h like me and I like how she have that accurate accent when speaking English because it's just funny to me). But yeah, Vertin might be the only protagonist in a Gacha that I'm *really* interested in (also Dante in Limbus to some extent as well but I'm still more interested to the Sinners and SEASON 3 IS COMING SOON WITH CANTO 5, I CAN'T WAIT).

And recently I'm enjoying more the dubs than the subs since I can understand everything without needing to look at the subtitles and concentrate into the actual scenes so I'm playing games with English/French voices instead if there's the option. Matilda being French is just one of the reasons I like her, aside from that, she's pretty silly.
[SPOILERS] Yeah I didn’t feel super connected to some characters until we started seeing more into Schneider’s childhood and life in Ch. 2 and then I fell in love with her-and I had adored her voice from the start… And then she died and I’ve never recovered 😭
6:40 if you wondering about "mic quality", it's not about mic quality. they use good condenser then the voice go through post processing, adding compressor and eq-ing by cutting more high freq and boost bit mid-low freq, then adding "cosmetics" more to make it sounds vinyl-esque quality (make sense for the setting of the game). as musician, the voice in this game sounds like if you treat vocal record for music which makes it sounds unlike natural voiceover for narration video or anime, but more "sophisticated". I listen this game using audio technica ath-m50 if you wondering. Common game voiceover usually relying mostly if not purely on condenser and room treatment. Then they put editing to remove unwanted noise, maybe effects based on the scene. But this game go through post processing just pretty much like in mixing and mastering in music entirely. Thus this game sounds more sophisticated and "retro" due to trying to achieve vinyl-esque sound (vinyl was popular "record storage" before tape founded/replaced it, though now vinyl is back become popular again due to retro, collectable item and "honest" sound it produces), so we get more setting accurate voiceover sound which is I think this is really another level of high level paying attention to the detail for game (game of anime usually just adding distorted radio effects audio for certain throwback scene as simple solution/imagining and scratch noise, which definitely won't be done in this game since the game constantly "throwback" and prioritizing classy also retro setting). so, this game audio imo considering the context is definitely 10/10 and top of any gacha game currently

She a newer character released and even with my untrained ears I can tell her mic quality is,, well. not good. You can listen to a video showcasing her skills as she talks and I think you'll get it. And so I ask if, is it still a post processing issue?
@@lunacy5772 i can't really confirm because i don't have her 😭tried to check her voice line on youtube but youtube usually compress the audio and make it sound different. but from youtube, i don't think she used bad mic, she got same treatment to reach vinyl-esque sound. it's almost impossible to reach "bad mic" because of bad mic in this case. for example, sotheby on youtube sounds bad but to reach that kind of sound from bad mic, you need to buy $20 "toy" condenser and record it in bad room (i had that kind of condenser once for testing, it was taffware bm800, we call it can/tin mic because it sounds like you talk into a can lmao). you can't get that "bad" by just using $100 mic. usually "nked" sound of $100 just sound natural and/or dry, $100 mic is decent mic while usually content creator use at least $500 mic. i mean if wanna go for "bad sound" i would go to sotheby, but then again in the context, the game purposely go for retro-esque sound and sotheby is character from 1920, she sounds damped and more roomy like 1900-1920 record (they just added more reverb) and she's the only one that got that treatment imo it's due to her lore beside a knight as he's from 8th century (compared to all of characters i have in game idk about character i don't have 😭)

The game reminds me of black lagoon in the sense of it being a foreign project that was meant to be experienced in English and it does a really good job of it all things considered. I’m looking forward to more of this game, it’s very chill.
I’ve been playing since 11/03 and I’m completely hooked. The animations. The voice acting. The music. The characters. Everything feels so NEW. Even the free characters are usable. I definitely recommend it. My favourites are Dikke, Sonetto. Matilda and Regulus.
Luckily they didn't refer to that lol. Pickles here refers to a real life dog who found the lost Rimet Cup in the 1966 (the entire current event story is based off that incident)
my first introduction to the game was Tennant and seeing her insight 2, I was like, “woah…” and then the story between Schneider and Vertin (kinda wish it was more developed but eh), Sonetto’s italian cheek kissing greeting, Matilda’s “rivalry” with Sonetto. This is from a CN company no less and the fact that Vertin has a personality makes it so much better. Also you forget to mention in AK you basically fight a figment of God in the Invitation of Wine event and chapter 13 in CN you’re now fighting satan
I personally thought the first two chapters were great. It's like jumping into the middle of a Harry Potter movie and being drawn in by the spectacle the world within provides.
You mentioned the difficulty and it being easy. As you point out, its fine for the story -- but have you tried the AS/Limbo? They require 2 teams and more planning around what youre doing!

Totally agree with this review on all points stated. The story was really fast paced in chapter 1&2 trying to understand what’s happening, and we only really get invested once we saw chapter 3, looking forward to more Vertin, and yes this definitely took heavy inspiration from Harry Potter theme. Gameplay simple but fun, animations are high quality along with sound and music design, lots of passion seen. Characters are brought to life with their movements which is so much better than static sprites. The British / European voice acting definitely makes it unique in the market too like what HP series did.
Ehhh, I wouldn’t say it’s overly easy. AS and Limbo (think Hall of Memories & MoC from HSR) are genuinely challenging late-game content. Playing later story chapters on Hard can also be challenging.
Honestly has a great potential. Both as a game and as a company willing to listen to their users. Also, just pulled a 6-star NewBabel. Prydwin says she is B tier, but her whip says otherwise.
The way I see it, she's a tank, designed to protect your team. Haven't progressed that far myself but on the later stages of the game the enemy attacks hurt like hell. She might be useful later on. I don't think there are any "bad" 6* in this game, though some of them have a rather niche usage.
Absolutely love it so far. Usually i am a story skipper (both Genshin and Star Rail included) but i found Re 1999 theme to be interesting and gave it a shot. Ch 2 and 3 is where it truly got me. Agree that drama in ch 2 was a bit too fast to really hit (we just met her). Ch 3 is the best one so far and everyone made connection with Promised Neverland. But more importantly it made me feel more attached to Vertin. This chapter solidified her as mc and her personality. Ch 4 was something like Attack on Titan season 3. Really hoped that a certain forest girl is going to be this chapters mc (she kinda was in a way) but it didn't worked out the way i thought it would. There are many questions and i feel same clueless as i was in the beginning. And i still wonder who is Z. It feels like game gave us hints but i can't connect her to characters that we already saw. She sure cares for Vertin. For a quick second i thought that she is Isabella but then remembered Z standing there in the rain. I swear this narrator is an asylum patient. I don't understand a thing (there are some hints in there), he did say that we will meet one day. The whole game is gorgeous visually. Amazing va work. As for gameplay it's not my thing but i also don't mind it. Chapters fights were easy. Also used Brookbond girl or how's her name with Eternity as main duo. Have full pot Charlie and she claps hard. Need dedicated team for A Knight. The main challenge comes from somnambulism thing. I think people beat the whole thing at insight 2 50. At i 2 30 i almost lost on stage 6 or 7 (took me several tries to beat it), even before resetting ones. Also i really like "base" in this game.
I like this game, especially Bkornblume who has transformed my life, she is the only reason I still live, everything else is secondary to her smile. 7/10
I've been vaguely curious about this game since I heard a cover of ReReReRegulus! and now that I'm hearing about the plot, this sort of feels like Pokemon Legends: Arceus but without the Pokemon and I mean that in the best way possible
It is one of those hopefully rare games where we could get character's from each country in the world, best part is anything from 1999 below is possible. Heck I hope they'll have a crossover with Valiant Hearts and bring back Emile, Bill (L4D) style but in another game. But seeing a character from Amnesia (yes the horror game) would be nice aswell, personally I think Mandus would fit due to having alot of connection with early 20th century and late 19th century.
I just want to see how Reverse 1999 does after a few years since besides limbo, theres no other much endgame content but the game they took the card system from, Seven Deadly Sins Grand Cross had PvP as the main replayable content. I had played that game for like 2.5 years due to how much i loved that pvp so perhaps an online mode can help r1999 a lot. The Knight is based off Roland so LoR collab when?

9:22 - there is no challenging content until you get to a point where resources are pretty scarce and to make progress without farming you need to get good at the game and casino table, for instance if you want to farm pnevma 7 or do 4-21 hard or not early.
If your phone is between Samsung same s10e (mine) at the very least, it runs seamlessly. It's truly surprising how easily it runs without cooking my phone.
Yeah after some time, i can respect Reverse for what it is Probably near Punishing Gray Raven and Limbus Company level of mad respect gacha, although i personally prefer Limbus and ESPECIALLY PGR more 😅 At least it had actual interesting aspects, just not my cup of tea

As a HSR fan im absolutely loving 1999 Its definitely a breath of fresh air and suits my casual playstyle a lot more. I also love how all of the weapons are f2p and youre really only gonna spend on cosmetics/passes which boosts your progression but doesnt turn you into a whale. But i almost dropped this game until chapter 2 which made me love it, still sad that Schneider died.

They’re probably not OP but I clear 95% of the story with a lineup of Apple, Sonneto and Mondlicht, and those first two you start with. Mondlicht’s only a 4 star but damn if I don’t love the fact that her attacks hit two enemies, and that one’s stronger against healthy enemies and the other weak enemies. So the Situational boosts cover pretty much every situation between them
I've had a absolute blast with this game so far, yes the u probably have a little to much characters to play with, i mean, who is ever gonna use those 2 star characters? but its still alot of fun though the resource generation make leveling characters past Insight 2 quite a hassle and very expensive stamina wise. I'm also enjoying the current event story, its fun and everything is well polished. the main story is a blast! i don't agree with u that the main story is still not good,couse especially chapter 2 and 3 reach Honkai impact 3rd level of cruelty and thats rare this early on so i can't wait to see where its going.

The story presentation of the game is top notch. Fully voice acted as well as L2D motioned characters. Aside from that though, Reverse 1999 gameplay just has different rules but still remained fundamentally the same with FGO's and that's kind of a deal breaker for me.
Before I played the game my thoughts is "another (weird) game will dead In 7 days" BUT After tried the game "DAMN this game is weird but FU*KING GOOD!" Every Chapter just slap my Ass! Chapter 3 is the GOAT, it's was like reading "Promise Neverland" manga. my only criticism is when Vice president talked about her planning it supposed to be in the last chapter rather in the middle of The chapter. I think it will give me more Shock if they make the twist in the last minute.

The only thing that makes me stay is the gameplay, voice acting, characters, animation, and general intrigue of the story. I'm at the 3rd chapter and it does get better. They just do a sloppy job in making you understand what's happening at times. But all in all I like the game.
I understood the story with no problem on the first try. I think it's just a matter of attention span for each individual person. I did miss some details but when I found them and connected the dots it felt amazing.
Not as good as Arknights by gameplay and setting by far. BUT very good QoL and first event just beautiful. Really fresh air for new players, beautiful as sidegacha for old.
Obviously, I'm a fan of Arknights. That being said, there's absolutely no comparison between the two in regards to gameplay. If anything though, I'd argue Reverse 1999 has slightly less depth than FGO.
If im not wrong, in the cn server the game company actually raised the price of the monthly card without informing the players which made a lot of drama in their community

one thing that annoys me is that the boss or any enemy that require some thinking to do all have the control immunity buff, it just invalidates so many strategies and turns it into a pure dps/hp check.
Those buff only last a turn that’s when you hit buff and debuffs on your turn and wait the immunity out then hit harder next turn with then buffs and or debuffs that you set
I think the strongest point of the game is the characters themselves. The majority of not all of them are based on real world events, from large to small. Eagle for instance represents both the boys and girls scouts.
The story or the overall writing goes from outrageously bad and pretentious to mid at best. Everything else is just standard or not unique enough in the gacha scene.
The worst part of this game is the borrowed stamina refresh system from genshin. It's absolutely abhorent, but it's where the money is i guess. other than that, everything's pretty okay.

Absolutely love it so far. Usually i am a story skipper (both Genshin and Star Rail included) but i found Re 1999 theme to be interesting and gave it a shot. Ch 2 and 3 is where it truly got me. Agree that drama in ch 2 was a bit too fast to really hit (we just met her). Ch 3 is the best one so far and everyone made connection with Promised Neverland. But more importantly it made me feel more attached to Vertin. This chapter solidified her as mc and her personality. Ch 4 was something like Attack on Titan season 3. Really hoped that a certain forest girl is going to be this chapters mc (she kinda was in a way) but it didn't worked out the way i thought it would. There are many questions and i feel same clueless as i was in the beginning. And i still wonder who is Z. It feels like game gave us hints but i can't connect her to characters that we already saw. She sure cares for Vertin. For a quick second i thought that she is Isabella but then remembered Z standing there in the rain. I swear this narrator is an asylum patient. I don't understand a thing (there are some hints in there), he did say that we will meet one day.
The whole game is gorgeous visually. Amazing va work. As for gameplay it's not my thing but i also don't mind it. Chapters fights were easy. Also used Brookbond girl or how's her name with Eternity as main duo. Have full pot Charlie and she claps hard. Need dedicated team for A Knight. The main challenge comes from somnambulism thing. I think people beat the whole thing at insight 2 50. At i 2 30 i almost lost on stage 6 or 7 (took me several tries to beat it), even before resetting ones. Also i really like "base" in this game.

I like this game, especially Bkornblume who has transformed my life, she is the only reason I still live, everything else is secondary to her smile.

I've been vaguely curious about this game since I heard a cover of ReReReRegulus! and now that I'm hearing about the plot, this sort of feels like Pokemon Legends: Arceus but without the Pokemon and I mean that in the best way possible

It is one of those hopefully rare games where we could get character's from each country in the world, best part is anything from 1999 below is possible.
Heck I hope they'll have a crossover with Valiant Hearts and bring back Emile, Bill (L4D) style but in another game. But seeing a character from Amnesia (yes the horror game) would be nice aswell, personally I think Mandus would fit due to having alot of connection with early 20th century and late 19th century.
reverse 1999 came out of nowhere to me, but it became one of my favorites and now i can no longer eat oranges LMAO
I just want to see how Reverse 1999 does after a few years since besides limbo, theres no other much endgame content but the game they took the card system from, Seven Deadly Sins Grand Cross had PvP as the main replayable content. I had played that game for like 2.5 years due to how much i loved that pvp so perhaps an online mode can help r1999 a lot.

9:22 - there is no challenging content until you get to a point where resources are pretty scarce and to make progress without farming you need to get good at the game and casino table, for instance if you want to farm pnevma 7 or do 4-21 hard or not early.

Hard mode as well some of those fights are like how so I challenge you to do all of hard more get all the stars and do the Event as well which also has story and harder content for that as well and that’s on Deadass lol
As a HSR fan im absolutely loving 1999 Its definitely a breath of fresh air and suits my casual playstyle a lot more. I also love how all of the weapons are f2p and youre really only gonna spend on cosmetics/passes which boosts your progression but doesnt turn you into a whale. But i almost dropped this game until chapter 2 which made me love it, still sad that Schneider died.

They’re probably not OP but I clear 95% of the story with a lineup of Apple, Sonneto and Mondlicht, and those first two you start with.
Mondlicht’s only a 4 star but damn if I don’t love the fact that her attacks hit two enemies, and that one’s stronger against healthy enemies and the other weak enemies. So the Situational boosts cover pretty much every situation between them
Don't know why they didn't make it a sweep though is what I think about pretty much every damn gacha
I've had a absolute blast with this game so far, yes the u probably have a little to much characters to play with, i mean, who is ever gonna use those 2 star characters? but its still alot of fun though the resource generation make leveling characters past Insight 2 quite a hassle and very expensive stamina wise.
I'm also enjoying the current event story, its fun and everything is well polished.
the main story is a blast! i don't agree with u that the main story is still not good,couse especially chapter 2 and 3 reach Honkai impact 3rd level of cruelty and thats rare this early on so i can't wait to see where its going.

The story presentation of the game is top notch. Fully voice acted as well as L2D motioned characters. Aside from that though, Reverse 1999 gameplay just has different rules but still remained fundamentally the same with FGO's and that's kind of a deal breaker for me.
Before I played the game my thoughts is "another (weird) game will dead In 7 days"

I agree with the story. I was about to quit after chapter 2 but chapter 3 made me stay. Not that great but good enough.
The only thing that makes me stay is the gameplay, voice acting, characters, animation, and general intrigue of the story. I'm at the 3rd chapter and it does get better. They just do a sloppy job in making you understand what's happening at times. But all in all I like the game.
I understood the story with no problem on the first try. I think it's just a matter of attention span for each individual person. I did miss some details but when I found them and connected the dots it felt amazing.

Obviously, I'm a fan of Arknights. That being said, there's absolutely no comparison between the two in regards to gameplay. If anything though, I'd argue Reverse 1999 has slightly less depth than FGO.

one thing that annoys me is that the boss or any enemy that require some thinking to do all have the control immunity buff, it just invalidates so many strategies and turns it into a pure dps/hp check.
Those buff only last a turn that’s when you hit buff and debuffs on your turn and wait the immunity out then hit harder next turn with then buffs and or debuffs that you set

I think the strongest point of the game is the characters themselves. The majority of not all of them are based on real world events, from large to small. Eagle for instance represents both the boys and girls scouts.

The story or the overall writing goes from outrageously bad and pretentious to mid at best. Everything else is just standard or not unique enough in the gacha scene.
The worst part of this game is the borrowed stamina refresh system from genshin. It's absolutely abhorent, but it's where the money is i guess. other than that, everything's pretty okay.
