Nice thing about this for leos or shtf, if you mount it on your hip anyone shooting at the light is less likely to hit your head or chest like they would if you are holding or head mounting it or strapping it to a plate carrier.
I have the 1L-1AA and it is a great flashlight. I took it to Africa a few months ago and it performed flawlessly. My camp guides wanted to know what it was because it was noticeably brighter than their flashlights. The ProTac 90 looks like another fine offering from Streamlight and a great choice for hands free hiking, flat tire repairs, and other specialized uses. I will be adding one to my collection.
The Protac 1L-1AA is my favorite flashlight ever. I got it years ago thanks partly to seeing your video of it. Also got one for my dad as a gift last year.
I’m an EMT and have been looking at one to mount on my radio strap. I want a light that can be hands free without having to stick on my hat or mess with out of pocket. Mounted to strap I just have to press the button. Great review.
My go-to light is the ProTac 2L-X. 18650 rechargeable or 2 CR123. It's a bit longer and thicker (Ladies) than the 1L-AA but AA batteries are weak and I hate paying for CR123.
I have 2 of each. 3 Black. 1 Tan. Waiting for the Pro Tac 90X. 1,000 Lumens. Love the 18650 rechargeable. Already inside my HL-X & 2L-X. Also coming in the Poly Tac 90X. 500 Lumens.
I need to get me a new flashlight for EDC,the one I currently have I a bit too long and runs on 2 of the 123 batteries which are ridiculously expensive, especially when you consider how fast they burn up..I gotta get something rechargeable ASAP and quit wasting my money on batteries..I want to step it up from the 400 lumens of my current flashlight to something with around 1,000 lumens too
@@Jacob_Gutierrez The problem with the S1RII is short battery life. It's simply too small to have much capacity. Even on low power it only lasts a few hours. Yes, it's rechargeable, but that doesn't help much on a multi-night camping trip and the like. Garrett, if you want something more powerful with longer battery life, look at 18650 lights. The Streamlight 2L-X is $60, and lasts 3 hours @ 500 lumens, 30 hours @ 40 lumens. Has a great size and feel to it. Big enough to grip well, not too big to slip in a pocket. If you already have a few 18650 batteries, you can get the light alone for $40. If you have your heart set on 1000 lumens, get the Streamlight HL-X. It's a little fatter, not as comfortable in a pocket, but it's an absolute tank. I've carried one for over a year and been very pleased with it.
you could try a keeppower 16650 rechargeable battery in your light. i run them in my surefire e series and protac 2lx wowtac a1s is one you may like though if you want a new light
@John Doe You do realize 18650 batteries are rechargeable, no? I'm not advocating staying with regular alkaline. I'm saying a typical 18650 light will have much longer runtime than an S1RII while still being very convenient to carry.
I just purchased the tac90 on amazon, thanks to a review I also ordered a nitecore red filter NFR25. It's a silicone cap w/ a red lens that can wriggle onto 25.4mm torch head. I'll let you know how it fits when it arrives in a few weeks.
The 90 s are great. They don't roll off the bedside table. You can grab it out of a pocket and index it correctly, you can't with the straights. Perfect for self defense shooting, easy to do in a few minutes practice. I wish they would make a 90 in metal that rebuilds the old g.i. light in AA with color lenses , with a long run time
Nice video! One consultation, if you ask, I have a Becker BK16 and an Esee Jg5 and I love these knives. I want to buy one more, flat grind, Kephart or Bushcraft style with an approximate size of 8.5 to 9.5" overall lenght. Can you, if it's all right, recommend some? thanks you!
lol i broke the pocket clip to my protac 90 the first night i got it. im an idiot, but the idea was to use it for shirt pocket carry but the head kept getting covered by the fabric of my loose fitting shirt and the light was flopping around. i figured i could reverse the pocket clip and sure enough i snapped it. so i took the pocket clip off my zebralight h52...i think....and slapped it on there. i love both of them but i think id go with the 1l-1aa over the 90. i also love 10 tap. my streams are high only but i can change them on the fly. i do prefer a headlamp over the 90. really tight spaces maybe the 90 and a mirror? handgunning with the 90 either my grip wasnt right, or the light was pointed in the wrong direction. im sure you could train around it but im a harries or fbi hold kind of guy
Your content is good. You speak well. Why do you feel like you have to make some sort of hand movement with every word? You look like you are rapping or trying to do sign language or something. For some reason millennials are terrible about this. Too much rap music? Idk. But it’s super annoying and degrades your great content.

I have used my protac 1L-1aa every single day for the past two years and I love it and could not recommend it enough
I used to carry the 1L, then the 1L-1AA until I got sick of buying CR123 batteries, so I got the 2L-X.
I like the 90 but streamlight should also include a magnetic tail cap to make it even better.

It will also run on a AAA battery, sure you will only get 40l but that's better than nothing. In a pinch! Will do the job. Definitely recommend.
I've had the microstream and the 1L 1AA and I got to say I carried the 1L EDC and microstream for slacks/professional/formal carry.

Nitecore makes red, blue, and green filters that fit over the head of the 90!
Just like the old military flashlights!
Will they fit over the battery cap for storage?
They can both run on aaa’s too, they just don’t fit very well.
Will the locking clip from the 90 fit the regular protac?
Not entirely sure about the reason for the 90's reduced lumens, but it does have a TIR and they will cut lumens down. Not sure how by much though.

Olight s1r baton 2. 1000 lumens on highest setting, takes 1 cr123 battery, the battery that comes in it is rechargeable too.

I wish they made a red lens for this light. Or LED module. I’d buy it in a second and not look back.
I agree with you this option would be very helpful
I agree

it fits
Great light.
90's are better for close work. I've been looking for the right one for ages.
Res7 what do you use yours for? (Not disagreeing, just a fellow flashaholic)
Check out the Rofis R1, its rechargeable, has a magnetic base, and an adjustable angle head.
Me too
Only thing the 90 needs is olive drab green so I can pretend it’s a modern take on the GI Fulton.
Thanks for filming
I would use the Protac original! I use Olight flashlights! I have 1 Fenix flashlight on my keychain that uses 1 AAA battery!
I just ordered a Fenix LD15R Rechargeable Right Angle Flashlight - 500 Lumens
Nice video. I have the 90, had it for a while, but I don't use it a lot. I liked what you did with your hat, might start using the 90 more. Thanks!

javier soria the Becker kephart. Just got it and it is nice
@@gideonstactical Is the blade solid and strong? Which will looks better compared to the esee pr4? thank you (I don't bother you anymore, jajaja)
javier soria Yes 1095 & 0.15 inches thick great belt Knife.
That was a great review. Question.. For hands free..would you rather use a headlamp instead of attaching the 90 to a random piece of gear?
WxGuy for sure, head lamp is better in most situations

Is that the kalashnikov with the new harpoon blade? Great video btw
Does the 90 pocket clip fit onto the other one?
I have this question as well....
90 4 lyfe!
Mechanics eh?
Both lights also run off of aaa batteries too.
Great Review!
