I’m a firefighter and I carry one of these on my gear for quite a while now. I use the black plug in mine to focus the beam to cut through smoke. These things are tough they are water proof and I’ve burned all the paint on the letters and they still go strong. Best light I’ve ever used recommend them 100% Also the reason the battery is in a pack is they sell a rechargeable battery for it
Ya He titled the Video “TESTING the Toughest flashlight on Amazon”, and then tests it by shining it at the wall inside his shop with the lights on...💡 Glad I wasn’t the only one who kept waiting for him to go outside at night to test them. Lol😂
He tested the beam, he compared it to a regulat flashlight, and he compared all the inserts. That was a test... are you not tired of watching people shine flashlights at trees as if the camera sees exactly what your eye does? It will light up a tree in the dark... we all know this. It's easier and better to compare in a consistent lighting brighter area.
“They” say that when U.L. tested ball bearings, they put a Firefighter in a concrete room and gave him 2 ball bearings. When the U.L. scientists came back to check on the bearings, they opened the door- the Firefighter broke one and lost the other.
Kasey Kelley I did think it was weird that he keeps body armor for bumps in the night. All rationalizations aside, your best tool is the element of surprise and there’s just no damn way you’re putting on all that Velcro without alerting the whole town that you’re up to something lol
Although I can appreciate the simplicity of having a single switch, I wish there were a way to get to the low power settings without cycling through the blinding light. This goes for nearly every light on the market today, and not just this one.
We've used these flashlights at my fire department for years originally the incandescent bulb version and for about probably 10 years now the led version. They are pretty rugged and they provide a decent spot beam. The only flaw is the plastic bezel ring around the lens that crack from time to time and exposing the o-ring. Other than that, they live on our truck mounted chargers ready for work whenever we need them.
Same! I've had the original on my fire gear for years until the bezel cracked. I now have the led version and love it. I expect it to be my service flashlight on my fire gear for several more years!
Yep. My lens bezel ring broke on an extrication we had (Forever hooked to my jacket)- however, that did not stop the light from performing just fine until I was able to grab a new one. Solid light.
The reason I didn't buy is because of a response from someone on this light. "It’s pretty resistant to water but if it’s submerged for longer than a brief moment, you can expect some damage."
I am enjoying this serious very much. I am auditing all of our preps too. Thanks for all your hard work on this. I am sure that it is helping out many families.
Just a quick comment from a law enforcement and security instructor. If you are sufficiently concerned about the possibility of a violent threat that you put on body armor prior to investigating something at night,, it is not a good idea to put a great big brightly lit target on your chest. If the bad guy shoots, he will shoot at the light. You would be better off investigating with a handgun along with a handheld light. I suggest that you use the FBI method (hold the light to your side and high) while searching. You can transition easily to the Harries, neck index, or other method of light usage once you have identified a threat. I strongly suggest that you DO NOT use a weapon mounted light for searching. The same issue results. The light will be positioned directly in front of you. As I mentioned above, if the bad guys shoots at you, he will probably shoot at the light. I've served many felony warrants in my time. I NEVER searched with a light in front of me.
I'm no expert, but it seems that if you're in a situation where body armor is a reasonable thing to put on, then putting a big bright target on your chest in the form of a spotlight is probably a bad idea.
I've thought the same thing. If you're trying to be discreet, say hiding from someone or something. Why would you attach a spot light directly over your heart?
@@Error-5478 Streamlight also makes flashlights that attach to military kevlar helmets. Are you suggesting that's a bad idea? If it was a bad idea the military wouldn't do it. Or am I wrong?

As someone who loves your videos more than probably anyone one else on youtube and someone who watches way more than I should, I am obsessed with preparedness, knowing what you have and having quick access and all that, just a small suggestion for these videos, which are 10/10 keep up the good work, would be to either put a keyword in the title for videos like this or even make a separate playlist so they're all in one place or a quick search will bring them all up. Like I said I love the channel overall I watch at least three of your videos a day and plan to watch all 2300 over time. Much love from South Carolina brotha!!
I've been watching for a long time. I must say you're getting quite good in front of the camera. Very straight foward and to the point. Well prepared. Nice work.
Streamlight also has a light called The Sidewinder.Itwas made specifically 4 Molly webbing. It runs on 2AA . It may not be what you want but just something to look at to keep on your plate carrier.
I've been using the rechargeable streamlite knucklehead. Similar form factor to the survivor but the light head swivels left/right up//down. Same base and battery configuration as well. The rechargeable has the same AA carrier as the survivor. It also has a very strong magnet for stationary work. Great video!
The only thing missing (IMHO) is a small but relatively powerful EDC pocket flashlight. There are some decent examples that run on one AA battery, so they would fit in with your single power source philosophy.
John Gilson I totally agree. I have the coyote and the black model. They are small, clip to your hat and usb rechargeable. Love them. FYI to anyone thinking about buying one. They have two light level modes. The coyote has bright as the main mode and the black has the dim for the main mode.
The batteries come in the clam shell because they are built to use all the power sources for it. We have them at my fire department and are kept in truck chargers. The flashing light was added for firefights to signal in distress to get more attention.
Those lantern style lights are the best for hands-free lighting. The canisters the AA are loaded into are an adapter as the lights are designed to house C batteries. Same brightness (voltage) but much longer run time. But if a guy was real clever, he would use the adapter and carry an extra one that is preloaded so that the light could be reloaded blind in the dark. The batteries would already be in the correct orientation. Like a mag for your guns
Man please keep producing I'm a east coast guy lol. Regardless you are so informative and just very easy to listen to and I really enjoy all of your content.
I used those lights when I worked in a yard. If you aren’t careful you can blind truck drivers over at over 300 yards. You can also buy rechargeable packs just for those lights and a dock for them also.
Thanks, Cody, I've really been enjoying this series of videos. Having high quality, reasonably priced, tools on hand ready at all times is a smart way to go. I ordered a couple of candle lanterns and a 12-pack of beeswax candles, because the wife loves beeswax candles. We've stocked up on fuel for various heaters and lanterns also. May God bless you and yours. Cheers.
Thanks for the suggestions on all of the lights, I picked up the first Streamlight Dualie for my wife, and I liked it so much, I'm getting another for myself. I like the backlighting too. Maybe some red/white/blue? I have a friend who is a lighting technician (building and theatre design) I remember him saying Green was a bad stage light choice. I don't know why, but that's what he said. Which I thought was stupid because I like green...

Thank you my friend threw one of these away he said I could have it and i had no idea it had all these different modes you only vid i saw with how really use it
I’m liking these preparedness videos. Seems to be well timed as I’m gonna start getting prepared here in the Uk. There’s not as much scope for going off grid and there’s practically no self defence option, my parents generation allowed themselves to be neutered but I think doing as much as I can would be the best insurance policy I can have, and when you even it out over the years, it’s actually quite a cheap insurance
The survivor light is indeed the best light for the money. The removable battery case is so you can use the rechargeable Li battery and charger (either plug in or vehicle mounted). Speaking from my experience in (10 years military, and LE) having a light (any light) strapped to your chest, acts as a target (you can look this up for your self). If I’m an armed adversary the first thing I’m going to do is aim at that light. If possible keep the light in the non firing hand out to the side
Wranglestar is the man! He’s helped and inspired me so much, I can’t thank him enough for all the information, tips and tricks he’s given me throughout the years. He’s even given me enough courage to start my own RUclips channel! Thank you so much brother!
Oh... Comms comin up. Now yer talkin my lingo. USMC 2841 Ground Radio Repair and a HAM Operator. Looking forward to that episode. Love the survival stuff. Keep it comin.
We use the Gen 2’s in New York, they’re absolute tanks. They take a beating and keep on ticking. Plus, the battery life is pretty damn good, for firefighting applications at least.
Streamlight makes a good product, my preference is the sidewinders. Lots on the surplus market for half the price and half the size. Red led perfect for astronomy. Btw your tip on flares made a purchase.
I want to say the Gen 1s had a on/off switch and not a button. I love mine; got it gosh...17 years ago for a Department Christas party gift. Still lights up many years and fires later.
i was surprised that the black/amber plugged lights were brighter, I was under the impression that this is designed to reduce the too high part of the beam to only allow the evened out peripheral beam to shine so as not to cause reflection back in heavy smoke/fog conditions (hope this makes sense), perhaps the plugs also reduce standing wave cancellation/attenuation? (like wave ripples colliding)
I found these couple of years ago, and yes hard to hurt this light. I also went AA power source. The older units have a longer reflector more like a standard flashlight - mag light etc. The standard reflector has bit more beam distance and it widens more at a distance. The newer more compact reflector is hands down far more durable. The older style reflector is compatible, molding and threads are the same it screws right on if that matters. At $50 a light it's a good deal for what you get. Mag lite is pretty tough, but these are much more so at around the same money.
This is great, however, I just watched the movie "Crawl" in which she used a dynamo/crank flashlight tethered/lanyard to her wrist. When the flashlight went out, all she had to do was crank it for a bit and good to go. Not sure in that situation (hurricane, etc.) and regardless of the alligators that a battery driven flashlight could even compare. I'm no expert so there's that. I just think a couple of crank flashlights are necessary in case you can't get to your battery stash. I wish I knew exactly which flashlight she used in the movie. The movie gets 2 stars max and that's if you like those types of movies.
First of all I love your channel and your content Being a Fire services profesional I have used various flashlights I think the pelican 3410 is a way better option. And it’s a bigger bang for your buck and it’s got a better warranty . If you would like to check it out let me know so I can send you one
if you are concerned with "handsfree" then nothing beats a good headlamp. It will not conform to your AA standard, but it´s a must have and and alto I had something like the streamlight issued to us in the military (but not led) - everybody ended up using LED headlamps eventually.
Can someone explain to me how the Amber, and especially the black plugs make the light brighter? I would assume they would change the color and make it significantly dimmer. How does this work?
Just cause it spreads the light differently doesn't make it brighter. Just more focused. Then again his favorite flashlights are plastic streamlights lol so I don't blame him 😂
Great lights Cody have used them over the years in the Fire Service, ours are the rechargeable models... You may also recommend to have a box of the Chemical Light Sticks also, they are very handy and require no batteries...God Bless...Chief...{NYS/ADK}
I totally agree AA flashlights are a better prep than not so reliable (long term) Lithium-Ion batteries. Did you consider the Nitecore EA45S (1000 lumen runs on 4 x AA) or the Nitecore EA81 (2100 lumen runs on 8 x AA).
You should definitely have rechargeable lithium batteries like cr123 or 18650 in at least one flashlight. Preferably an edc variety. The capacity per volume and weight on these batteries far exceeds other battery chemistries. However for something that will stay tucked away until it's needed like a survival light, AA lithium is the right choice. Keep a bunch of extras with the light, set a calendar alarm to change them out after 5 years, even though they supposedly have a 10-25yr life, just rotate them and use them.
You're going to want that front plate on your you carrier all the way to the top of your sternum. That's how it supposed to be worn. I love your videos, keep making great content.
Have you tried the stream light strion? It’s an incredible light. Comes with a piggyback charger you can mount inside a vehicle. Snaps in an out of the charger. One of the best lights I’ve ever used. Right next to my stream light stylus penlight. . It’s always right at my fingertips in my truck.
"If you want to break something, give it to a firefighter." We had a similar expression in the Army. "Give an infantryman two cannonballs and he will lose one and break the other."
My dads a British firefighter he’s retiring in a week but they use rosenbauer helmets with built in torched there supposed to be explosion proof but he smashed is open like an egg
Question I know that using lights especially LED lights in smoke conditions the lights act as a mirror… i know the old school yellow lights reflect less and cut through the smoke more. If I was going for an old school yellow bulb would the survivor light with the amber drop in attachment be my best option or no?
i like your choice and tend to agree with your pick i also keep all my emergency or prep tools and products to run on double A batteries that way i always know if i have a fresh supply of just that size i will have lights, radio, and a few other important things working in my home or possession most importantly in a lengthy power outage i also keep a candle survival lamp i use backpacking and that will allow me to cook or boil small quantities of water for purifying of course according to Google the best fuel for long term storage are diesel and propane ? i still treat my Deisel fuel anyway with a antigen and water removal conditioner as that’s what i use inmy Deisel truck a buddy of mine that works for one of the larger long distance freight companies saw the one i use and told me that’s what they use in their fleet semi trucks so i keep with it it’s sold in Walmart that makes it handy and easy to find and they generally have it in gallon containers too i’m not saying it’s the best but i know it works for me as my truck has always started no matter what the weather and when i do drain my separator i’ve never seen sludge or water as i always pour it into a clean clear glass jar, date it and store it on a shelf for a long time allowing everything to settle then i inspect it with a bright light and my nose not very scientific i guess but i was told the labs were pretty costly as i have a buddy that owns a big paving company and they send samples out on many of the machinery they own they of course use off-road or dyed fuel to save on taxes and i know he also uses that in his motor yacht which is legal to do he doesn’t take any chances on putting it in his trucks as inspectors very often stop by and do dip tests on those ! i’ve helped him inmy marina fuel up his boat with 55 gallon drums i used to get for him and used for myself for extended trips offshore in another fishing boat ! yep 110 miles off shore in the Atlantic Ocean there aren’t any gas stations so we needed to bring our own to get back to the dock after fishing for Tuna which incidentally is a 30 plus hour trip and often yields over a thousand pounds of fish for 6 guys yeah we eat sleep and live for fishing a couple of times a year it’s tiring but worth it IMO
Make sure the top of your front plate is touching the two bumps where your collarbones meet, your back plate should be just as high. Off the top of your heart is your aorta and your superior vena cava, fairly important according to most doctors. Not saying your plates were in the wrong place as I couldn't see your sternal notch, just trying to help.
I really like those streamlights for firefighting. However I purchased a pelican lil Ed for my bunker gear with the recoil led.(backwards facing) And it functions well in a fire, which is what I got it for. It would be nice with the streamlight to have a longer range for things out side the fire, but until the pelican breaks no reason to change what works. The stream lights are nice tho with the wide flat body so they stay pointed a certain way but I can maneuver my pelican wherever in my gear
The firstlight USA lights are good especially if you looking for the right angle flashlights. They’re quite small and very versatile. And just an FYI the torq which is the aa flashlight they offer isn’t not waterproof.
ehhh you never know he might put on a thick jacket and wear his carrier over the jacket. with him having a small jacket on the plate carrier is sagging

Thank you my friend threw one of these away he said I could have it and i had no idea it had all these different modes you only vid i saw with how really use it
love the videos, although I regret watching this one because now I have the urge to buy another flashlight. Keep up the great content!
Seems like there’s been a something photoshopped in almost every recent vid
Might be a beer lol
I’m liking these preparedness videos. Seems to be well timed as I’m gonna start getting prepared here in the Uk. There’s not as much scope for going off grid and there’s practically no self defence option, my parents generation allowed themselves to be neutered but I think doing as much as I can would be the best insurance policy I can have, and when you even it out over the years, it’s actually quite a cheap insurance
COol brother. We had the 1/0 in the fire house. I was like you and did not care for the halogen light bulbs. Thanks for sharing. God Bless.
Awesome homestead security/perimeter light, thanks. Blessings to you and yours.
Mate if something makes a noise outside I send my wife out to check
I was going to make an East Coast joke but its just too easy
Chris Glover I’m in Australia. The wife goes first, if she doesn’t come back then me and the dog toss a coin!
Wranglestar is the man! He’s helped and inspired me so much, I can’t thank him enough for all the information, tips and tricks he’s given me throughout the years. He’s even given me enough courage to start my own RUclips channel! Thank you so much brother!
good luck on your journey, youtube can be tough...
Where's your Farm?
So I hear. Thank you!
Central Oregon. Thanks for commenting!
@@fernwehcentraloregon6100 Seems dry.... ;)
This flashlight is also Used by firefigthers in the Netherlands
Cody, what type of storage containers is that underneath your work bench and are they airtight?
Those are part of the DeWalt stackable tool boxes...PS they do have a rubber gasket around the cover...to keep moisture out...
The amber plug for the survivor light is to help the blue colored light to be warmer to puch through smoke easier and cause less glare
Oh... Comms comin up. Now yer talkin my lingo. USMC 2841 Ground Radio Repair and a HAM Operator. Looking forward to that episode. Love the survival stuff. Keep it comin.
Radios have a steep learning curve,
I have two of the early led versions along with 12 volt fast chargers. They work great.
They have ones with knuckle heads that are really good. Also the batterys are in that pack because there is a rechargeable battery pack which is nice.
Interesting! Thanks!
i was surprised that the black/amber plugged lights were brighter, I was under the impression that this is designed to reduce the too high part of the beam to only allow the evened out peripheral beam to shine so as not to cause reflection back in heavy smoke/fog conditions (hope this makes sense), perhaps the plugs also reduce standing wave cancellation/attenuation? (like wave ripples colliding)
WRANGLESTAR SHOPPING CHANNEL. I miss the old format Cody. Any homestead projects to share with us? Cut down a tree lately?
I found these couple of years ago, and yes hard to hurt this light. I also went AA power source. The older units have a longer reflector more like a standard flashlight - mag light etc. The standard reflector has bit more beam distance and it widens more at a distance. The newer more compact
reflector is hands down far more durable. The older style reflector is compatible, molding and threads are the same it screws right on if that matters. At $50 a light it's a good deal for what you get. Mag lite is pretty tough, but these are much more so at around the same money.
Great video... Thank you.
Michael from Canada
I LOVE streamlight. The only time I’ve ever broken one was when I was at the top of the 100’ ladder and dropped it.
Then again his favorite flashlights are plastic streamlights lol so I don't blame him 😂
dano8801 I looked it up on google it took me 1 minute... Maybe try that.
Great lights Cody have used them over the years in the Fire Service, ours are the rechargeable models... You may also recommend to have a box of the Chemical Light Sticks also, they are very handy and require no batteries...God Bless...Chief...{NYS/ADK}
I totally agree AA flashlights are a better prep than not so reliable (long term) Lithium-Ion batteries. Did you consider the Nitecore EA45S (1000 lumen runs on 4 x AA) or the Nitecore EA81 (2100 lumen runs on 8 x AA).
So what is better for cutting the smoke, the black or the amber one?
Usually one of the flashing modes is an SOS morse code, so when using it, you should make sure it is really an emergency.
"If you want to break something, give it to a firefighter."
We had a similar expression in the Army. "Give an infantryman two cannonballs and he will lose one and break the other."
The trays are for replacing the batteries at night easier. We have a similar set up in our thermals
Fun fact AA,AAA,D,C and basically every other type of battery are all 1.5 volts
Nutnfancy sold me on stream light. Heavily use stylus pro for work great lights. I’m also with you keep it simple with battery aa for the win.
"Many many raisins"
TAB (0:01)
Hey. You pronounced Fresnel correctly. Not many people do that. Good job.
I don't know if it was ever mentioned in the last video but where does the wax go after you finish burning that candle?
I’d recommend moving your plate carrier up a couple inches
ehhh you never know he might put on a thick jacket and wear his carrier over the jacket. with him having a small jacket on the plate carrier is sagging
great series
We usr the red flash lights in the fire trucks very reliable
Loving the content but i must correct you.. At the start Metallica is written Metalica.. not so serious but as a big fan of that band it was like a stick in to eyeball :D Anyways really nice content and i really like the fact that you dont take sponsors and keep the content true to the viewers.. No marketing bullshittery or any shady things like 90% of tool/equipment rewiews and tests on youtube. Im really sorry about my poor english but greetings from Finland and may god bless your family and all of your loved ones !
No test outdoors, must be terrible!😂
The thinner can hurricane lamp "pipe freezing prevention device"...😂
Loving the Series, keep the videos coming.
Thanks SHR
Ellie the main character in The Last of Us 2 video game has this famous flashlight! It’s strapped to her backpack shoulder strap to use hands free.
I have at least one light for every common battery. One for aaa, one for aa and of course I have some that use 18650. That way I have a light for any battery I find. In my bob I keep mainly aa battery's and a good aa light. I have a few adapters to convert aa into c and d.
