How to fix broken zipper in jeans

Do you know how to repair zipper in jeans quickly and without even removing it from the item?
Zippers in jeans are rather tough and durable, but even they sometimes break. It's very frustrating and the first thought is to throw the piece of clothing away. Don't do it. One option is to replace the broken zipper with a brand new one, but you need at least intermediate sewing skills to do the task and most jeans have topstitching that is almost impossible to duplicate. Another, have a look how to make it work again without taking it out.
The good news is the zippers are hardly ever broken beyond repair and mending them won't take longer than a few minutes. The job won't require any particular skills and usually no extra pieces, either. All you need is a needle, some thread and a bit of patience.

Thank you for this. All my life, I was taught if your zipper breaks, you either take them to the cleaners or throw them away. I have a pair of jeans in my closet RIGHT NOW, zipper broken, that I refuse to throw away. Only wore them one time 🤷 As soon as I get in the house from work, I will be repairing that zipper.

I just fixed my new Zara pants that I broke as soon as I got them over 3 months ago. When I saw him use pliers to bend the zipper pull at 1:00, it gave me a idea. I took a screwdriver and pried the zipper pull apart a bit. I manually attached the bottom half inch of the zipper. Then I fed the zipper pull from the top and pulled it all the way down and was able to zip it back up. Then I used pliers to clamp the zipper pull back tighter together. This fixed my zipper without having to undo the bottom.

I save some zippers just for the pulls. My pull will not stay up that part that catches so it will not slide down is worn out. I am going to get that other zipper pull and put it on my favorite pants!!!!

However i did not use any of your steps, just watched to figure out how the zipper works and i kinda just used force and alittle bending to get the zipper on track now it works great. Thank you for the help! They say finesse not force, but sometimes force is the way to go i guess... Lol!

If the teeth are missing from the start of the zipper, sew it up to that point and start the zipper above the stitching
