Alright, let me make it clear, if anyone talks bad about this place, I'm gonna block you!
There's this couple from Mainland China, like 40 years apart in age, selling Hong Kong-style braised dishes in Taoyuan, Taiwan. While I was filming, I chatted with the lady owner, and god, I was almost in tears.
The lady owner talked about their financial situation, making me realize that in any industry, if you stick to your conscience, it's hard to make money. The net profit of this shop every month is even less than Taiwan's minimum wage!
She talks about her 96-year-old husband, showing me what true companionship is all about. They stick together through thick and thin, for richer or for poorer.
The process of making Hong Kong-style cold braised dishes is the most complicated I've ever filmed. Each ingredient has its own cooking time, and the ingredients for the next day need to be prepared in advance, so I was filming in a daze the whole time.
The freshness of the food is top-notch. The braised dishes are lightly seasoned, which I really like. Even when I brought them home to eat, they were still delicious, without feeling heavy on the stomach. And if you feel like it needs more flavor, they even have homemade braising sauce, pickled vegetables, and chili peppers made by the lady owner herself.
I really adore the owner and the lady owner. They were worried I wouldn't have enough to eat, even spending a few hundred New Taiwan Dollars on breakfast just for me. I think I'm gonna become good friends with them, and next time, I'll bring them gifts. They are truly the kindest shop owners I've ever met, hands down.
