I agree Artorias was my favorite but Kalameet is harder. I'm still fighting him. Its like Sister Freide and Midir though. Freide was fun and really hard, and midir seemed nearly impossible until I learned his patterns and how to exploit his move set- but he was ultimately pretty boring.
Manus for sure. I did Kalameet first try somehow, even if i didn't know what was going on for 90% of the fight *lol* Just got really lucky. Now that i have fought him several times he's my favorite boss in the whole game.

Gough shooting down Kalameet is my second favourite soulsborne cutscene after Ludwig's Moonlight Greatsword in Bloodborne. Just the way the music builds up as Gough gets his arrow cocked and ready and shoots through the gap in the tower so effortlessly makes Gough the most memorable character in DS1 for me.
Yeah this was an incredible moment. I felt bad for shooting down Kalameet though, he was just flying minding his own business, didn’t even bother us when encountering him on the bridge. But I guess it has to be done, I have to dispatch the last dragon the great Kalameet
I summoned someone for this fight and they killed a crystal lizard for me in the boss arena. I think it’s located on a ledge that you drop to rather than take the ladder.
Kalameet is the reason why I over leveled in my 1st play through from 70 to 120, just to get the maximum Hp and Stamina, and I died to him like 15 times. It was my 1st time playing Darksouls game, ever, and am doing it on NS (Nintendo Switch) :-). Right now, am ~150 level in NG+, damn those monsters HP and damages increase. Am still trying to learn the dodge mechanics, and am hoping they will port Darksouls 2 on NS to try it too for the very 1st time.
Samer Fakhri I’m hoping for DS 3 to be ported as darksouls remastered is dead, nobody is barely online. Only active place is Undead Parish at low levels or the forest at low levels
Kalameet is the first boss giving me reasons to look up strategies in the web. He makes it tough to learn his mechanics because he only needs 2-3 hits to kill me on one hand, on the other hand he doesn't even let me hit him haha. Reminds me of my early days with Sif. edit: not to mention his sick aoe damage
Btw Ornstein is always the first knight of gwyn you encounter because you need to kill him to get the Lord vessel to actually go to Duke's Archive and get the broken pendant to access the dlc
Its ornstein's illusion in anor londo boss fight. Real ornstein is looking for nameless king (gwyn's son), he betrayed lords and teamed up with dragons.
This really helped me out, this was my hardest fight in the DLC and listening to you talk through the attacks made a world of difference. Only Gwyn stands in my way now. Thank you!
I am so ready to beat this game. I even fought Gwyn to one bar of HP before I let him kill me because I still have the dragon left and I might murder the blacksmiths for their hammers 😢
If you want the easy way, get the dragonslayer bow and hundreds of dragon arrows and face Kalameet before talking to Gough. Kalameet will come to the valley and breath fire at you then leave then come back again after a while and do it again. When it is entering the arena, let loose one arrow then switch to shield and block the fire attack. Repeat until dead.
He can be bled but it takes a bit. priscillas lifehunt scythe is supposed to make someone bleed in three hits but it took about six or seven to make kalameet bleed. I was playing on the switch and I recorded the moment he bled.
casey day how much health did he lose from this? Dang I wish this game had a boss rush mode. In NG+ now so a tad before I can go have fun with him again
There is a way to cheese karlameet, by using a greatbow and shooting it when it breathes fire the first time you encounter it, it will be an instant kill, you'll unlock new dialogue with Gough too btw

@@riso-1919 I bet you play a warrior str/vit build. For a caster this boss is a nightmare. I can give you an example - Artorias took me 6 sec to kill. This guy 50 tries cant do nothing even in waterfall area.
This is how i killed kalameet, I go under him and hit his back legs till he finished stopping is front leg stomp attack then I hit his front legs and repeat... If he does move back and do a different attack besides his fire attack I just use a strong enough shield

I feel like the hardest thing about Kalameet isn't even killing him: it's cutting off his tail. After dying like 20 times I was like "fuck it" and just killed him. It wasn't worth the effort

Dude thank you so much. Went with your advice for Hugh stability shield and used at Atorius GS over black knight shield (had use for fire res) and did it first try. First stuff is easy to dodge and the stability makes his attacks a joke!
For me it was easier with homing soulmass, two copies with Logan's catalyst and cristal soulmass, cast during breath attacks, roll into the physical to shoot the spell, distance and repeat, throwing some soul spears for good measure
I saw multiple lists claiming kalameet was by far the hardest boss of all of ds1 but that’s a complete lie. Manus was brutal in the sense that he hit hard, was fast and extremely aggressive, and had devastating magic attacks that were very unforgiving as to how fast they could travel. You can’t pause or have a break window in that fight you are on the tip of your toes the whole time and it’s just brutal.
Depends on the person, I think the biggest issue with kalameet is the range of his attacks. Both he and his attacks are just massive so a lot of people get overwhelmed and don’t know where to roll. Manus is fast and aggressive, but only up close. I usually don’t have a problem running away to heal in that fight where as with kalameet you have to run pretty far. Also manus’ magic is completely negated by the silver pendant if you were unaware.
The Ghost Initiative no I was aware of the silver pendant but sometimes you have literally a split second to react with it Bc the magic attacks are just so fast and I do agree with backing up to heal but later on in the fight he resorts to magic when you back up. Kalameet is very linear to me just because it’s so easy to know what attack he will do based on how he poises up for the attack.
Well, what you did is pretty much the normal way, lol. Easier way would be with 5 or 10 more and also stronger Estus Flasks(+4/+5) and some green moss so you can get hits in between blocking his attacks. If you got the time for it, also throw in a lightning buff for the weapon.
I feel like any boss becomes a cakewalk when you have a greatshield. I beat manus on NG+ on the first try using the greatshield of Artorias. Granted, playing with a greatshield can also be extremely boring.
I plan on getting DS1 with my friend, and have also been watching a lot of souls vids, and came across yours. These guides are really good and they will be helpful to me in the future, so years late to your uploads, but thank you for making these guides
the opening i used to attack his tail was actually when he goes on his hind legs and spews fire. it’s a tight window but if you’re prepared for it he actually lowers his tail enough to hit. you can run behind him and fit in a running attack. i spent way too fucking long trying to do it. i also never knew the tail slam attack existed
I am running through my first playthrough of DS on my stream and your videos have really helped me. To beat these bosses its up to the player, you can watch someone else do it all you want but you are the one that has to pull it off. Thank you for these videos.
Thanks for your video, I was a mere pyromancer, who wasn't able to scratch this boss for really damage (my best fire skill does 200 and its 4 cast, and my other skills will do either same or less so all of them together with power within won't even take half his hp), your video was the reason I went with my Claymore+13 (couldn't take it to +15 because I need one chunk and I was lazy to farm it), so my scale isn't that good for Claymore but still each two hand with my buff did 200-250 damage, and took him with using 3 flask only as I was so aggrasive I don't care if I am under his legs I would do 5 attacks if I can and If I wasn't able to dodge the legs I would just heal, so it was fast fight for me. (minutes Ago I said Manus was easier now both of them the same even tho Manus was a little bit annoying but my damage on him was better due to my pyromancy being effective) Thanks

I thought this was some sort of lightning so I had lightning armor on lol.. A minor problem with this game is that it's sometimes hard too see what element the enemy uses... Ice attacks are magic?? Dukes archives boss gets me frustrated by now
Yeah the elements are a bit confusing at first. The ice is actually crystal which is magic. Then there’s fire, lightning, and dark aka hexes. Dark only exists in the dlc though so it’s not a threat very often. To add more confusion though, seathe’s crystal magic breath also curses you haha.
Not much you can do against dark in this game. I think its technically still considered fire for defensive purposes, or maybe magic. The "ice" your talking about is magic.
@Jimmy Strudel nah, I dont think so. It would've hinted at it, and I cant find any evidence to support it. Neither 1, 2, or 3 hint at occult being dark. If anything theres evidence that supports occult being seperate. We know dark damage is spurned from the abyss, such with hexes and whatnot Occult seems to have been born from a blacksmith on the other hand
Ok so some quick criticism here. First off if you’re this far in you should have farmed Humanity in the abyss and should be sitting at a cool 99 soft humanity and about 10-15 hard twin humanity (~20% extra Def on that 99 soft and the twins you can heal with as you wish). That takes around an hour of running abyss farming. Other than that props on the mobility of your build dude. I ran it with Havel’s set, iron flesh pyromancer and a +14 Avelyn with Heavy Bolts and just shot him down. Didn’t even finish my Estus on that run.
Havel’s and iron flesh huh? I’ve never seen anyone just try to stack defense against kalameet but its cool that it worked. I like to be able to sprint around with all the dragons in the series so I’ll actually remove armor if I have to lol. The humanity tip is solid though, I should have mentioned that in the video. I’ve run through this game so many times by this point I almost never bother putting time into my resistances anymore just out of sheer laziness 😅. (Can’t remember the last time I reinforced my armor lol.) That being said, it definitely pays off to be prepared so nice work on your build. Well played.
The Ghost Initiative Your way is far easier and far more elegant! And getting NOT hit at all far outweighs shrugging off a hit haha. I was also at SL 149 and he was my last fight before Gwynn. It annoys me how many times they switch out fire based damage for being magical based. I was using the fire damage ring and was getting nervous the way the fire was draining my health. My tip, Great shield of Artorias, what a beast of a shield. I tried the Black Great shield instead to see the difference as it had higher fire resistance, the difference is HUGE! You dont get knocked down very much, the stamina drain from block is like quarter a bar tops whereas the black shield the dragon nearly knocks the whole bar out and you get additional damage. This made the fight careful, heal after he hits his breath weapon, stay towards his rear if you can, then pummel as you can. Whoosh, dead dragon.
I just wanted to know what weapon you're using? Is it the cursed Greatsword of Artorias +5? Full equipment & stats would have been very helpful to see exactly what you're working with here.
I been playing this on Switch & I almost had Kalmeet 1st try. Then he one hitted me with idk what. Since then I can't get him past half health till that one shot comes. Thanks for the video
I can't dodge anything for some reason. Attempting to dodge into his attacks fails. Running away fails. Even his straight-ahead breath attack always gets me. Blocking with a 100% reduction shield and 100 poise staggers me too much to recover. I truly suck at this game and/or pattern recognition.
What’s your equipment load? There are different breakpoints for the percentage of your maximum equipment load that you’re using that will increase the invulnerability on your rolls. If you take off some armor and get your equipment load under 25%, you’ll do a fast roll and it’ll be easier to dodge everything assuming you’re not already fast rolling.
@@TheGhostInitiative I'm definitely not fast rolling, but I'm pretty sure I'm on the faster mid roll. Looking at what I've got equipped right now, I'm at 34.3/109.5, but I'm still messing around with gear/weapon combos to see what I can even do. I can probably go with full Gold Hemmed since getting hit by him is so devastating anyway. This is obviously my first play through, and first experience with the Souls franchise (Remastered, PC), and I've been trying to play without looking up too much information... but this guy is killing me. Literally. Thank you for the response, and I'll see if I can fast roll my way to victory instead.
The gold hemmed set actually has decent fire/magic defense so it isn’t too bad for absorbing some of his breath. I’m working on a video that covers rolling right now so I have this info handy: fast rolls are about 30% shorter than mid rolls (meaning more rolls in less time) and you’re invulnerable for over half of the animation vs the mid roll where you are only invulnerable for a third of the animation. That’s actually the only speed for midrolls in this game so getting down to that 25% equip load point should help a lot.

I’m in the same boat. Just can’t seem to avoid his horizontal swipes, the debuff or his dive. The most I’ve managed is 4 hits on him before I get stomped/fried.
I got the remaster for ps4 played it didn't do dlc got it for the switch realized it had the dlc killed the sanctuary guardian and artoras but killed the guy who sold his armor then did it again on Ng+ and that was easier then Ng++ tried manus and failed same with kalmeet Ng+++ killed manus only kalmeet to go
was really struggling with kalameet until i saw this video. using a 100% physical reduction shield really helped me win the fight. i used the Tower Shield and beat it right after 🤞

LIKE i died onces to the guardian i see you tanking through kalameet damage most of those attacks 1 shot me and i have no tower shield that's upgraded. if i use Havel shield i won't be able 2 have much armor
get any greatshield and right below his head block his paw swips when he gets up run ito him hit him two time and repeat the process this make it almost impossible to his ai to do his calamity attack (The red eye) Beat him first try using this stratrgy
+5 greatsword of artorias and his armor to match. Not sure what my stats were exactly as this was a long time ago but I was running a quality build if I was using that sword (half strength/half dex)
This dragons attacks were pretty simple and "easy" to dodge compared to the King of the Storm and Darkeater Midir from Dark Souls 3. I think i may have gotten lucky because I killed it on my first try. But I wasn't going for the tail so maybe that's why I didn't die.
You’re free to have your own opinion on the matter as it isn’t confirmed what the truth actually is, but it’s pretty widely accepted in the souls community that he merely thinks he is blind because the eye holes are packed with resin. It’s also not lightning, fire, or poison, but rather just tree sap.
I kid you not the first time I did Kalameet and tried to cut his tail it took me an entire night. And once i did, it took me a minute to kill him cuz i had his patterns down perfectly by that point 😂
You have to go to kalameet’s arena and slide down the ladder to activate the boss first. You can then homeward bone out and talk to gough again and he will shoot down kalameet
It's hilarious to me that people think he and Sinh are more or less the same. Totally different fights and Sinh is decidedly not even close in looks, as some people say.
Dragon crest shield + strongest Magic shield buff stops all fire attacks from him so I think the fire is just magic but him having high magic resistance and me a mag build doesn’t help he one shots me 😥
The only boss where mid-high stamina points is needed to beat this guy especially if you're a heavy melee build. unfortunately mines was low so i had to soul farm to get more endurance, upgrade estus for plus 5, then replace the armor for as light as possible if not nude to get better s. i also ended up having to bait his flight then hit with a one swing once he lands before he does the tail spin swipe into fire breathe. this asshole dragon has an answer for everything. he isn't as tough as Ancient dragon or Midir but he's definitely quicker which is a problem if your build is not prep for it.

I died at least 30+ times as of now and its ongoing. Though I can easily cut his tail, it's his health which is a problem

For me it was easier with homing soulmass, two copies with Logan's catalyst and cristal soulmass, cast during breath attacks, roll into the physical to shoot the spell, distance and repeat, throwing some soul spears for good measure
I saw multiple lists claiming kalameet was by far the hardest boss of all of ds1 but that’s a complete lie. Manus was brutal in the sense that he hit hard, was fast and extremely aggressive, and had devastating magic attacks that were very unforgiving as to how fast they could travel. You can’t pause or have a break window in that fight you are on the tip of your toes the whole time and it’s just brutal.
Depends on the person, I think the biggest issue with kalameet is the range of his attacks. Both he and his attacks are just massive so a lot of people get overwhelmed and don’t know where to roll. Manus is fast and aggressive, but only up close. I usually don’t have a problem running away to heal in that fight where as with kalameet you have to run pretty far. Also manus’ magic is completely negated by the silver pendant if you were unaware.
The Ghost Initiative no I was aware of the silver pendant but sometimes you have literally a split second to react with it Bc the magic attacks are just so fast and I do agree with backing up to heal but later on in the fight he resorts to magic when you back up. Kalameet is very linear to me just because it’s so easy to know what attack he will do based on how he poises up for the attack.
Kalameets got the range for sure, but Manus is just a powerhouse.

Well, what you did is pretty much the normal way, lol. Easier way would be with 5 or 10 more and also stronger Estus Flasks(+4/+5) and some green moss so you can get hits in between blocking his attacks. If you got the time for it, also throw in a lightning buff for the weapon.
I feel like any boss becomes a cakewalk when you have a greatshield. I beat manus on NG+ on the first try using the greatshield of Artorias.
Granted, playing with a greatshield can also be extremely boring.
Yeah but I tried to make these guides applicable to any build, great shields take a lot of stats

If you’re gonna use abyss walkers artorias, you gotta use the abyss greatsword
the opening i used to attack his tail was actually when he goes on his hind legs and spews fire. it’s a tight window but if you’re prepared for it he actually lowers his tail enough to hit. you can run behind him and fit in a running attack.
i spent way too fucking long trying to do it. i also never knew the tail slam attack existed

Thanks for your video, I was a mere pyromancer, who wasn't able to scratch this boss for really damage (my best fire skill does 200 and its 4 cast, and my other skills will do either same or less so all of them together with power within won't even take half his hp), your video was the reason I went with my Claymore+13 (couldn't take it to +15 because I need one chunk and I was lazy to farm it), so my scale isn't that good for Claymore but still each two hand with my buff did 200-250 damage, and took him with using 3 flask only as I was so aggrasive I don't care if I am under his legs I would do 5 attacks if I can and If I wasn't able to dodge the legs I would just heal, so it was fast fight for me. (minutes Ago I said Manus was easier now both of them the same even tho Manus was a little bit annoying but my damage on him was better due to my pyromancy being effective) Thanks

I beat it by using a great shield and attacking during his fire attack. It happened last night
He sometimes summones the hitbox of Sinh upon me and utterly destroys me
The actual easy way is having a Havel shield. Then it's just a child's play. You can strip all the armour to be less loaded.

I thought this was some sort of lightning so I had lightning armor on lol.. A minor problem with this game is that it's sometimes hard too see what element the enemy uses... Ice attacks are magic?? Dukes archives boss gets me frustrated by now
Yeah the elements are a bit confusing at first. The ice is actually crystal which is magic. Then there’s fire, lightning, and dark aka hexes. Dark only exists in the dlc though so it’s not a threat very often. To add more confusion though, seathe’s crystal magic breath also curses you haha.
Not much you can do against dark in this game. I think its technically still considered fire for defensive purposes, or maybe magic.

@Jimmy Strudel nah, I dont think so. It would've hinted at it, and I cant find any evidence to support it. Neither 1, 2, or 3 hint at occult being dark.
If anything theres evidence that supports occult being seperate.
We know dark damage is spurned from the abyss, such with hexes and whatnot
Occult seems to have been born from a blacksmith on the other hand
Ok so some quick criticism here. First off if you’re this far in you should have farmed Humanity in the abyss and should be sitting at a cool 99 soft humanity and about 10-15 hard twin humanity (~20% extra Def on that 99 soft and the twins you can heal with as you wish). That takes around an hour of running abyss farming.
Other than that props on the mobility of your build dude. I ran it with Havel’s set, iron flesh pyromancer and a +14 Avelyn with Heavy Bolts and just shot him down. Didn’t even finish my Estus on that run.
Havel’s and iron flesh huh? I’ve never seen anyone just try to stack defense against kalameet but its cool that it worked. I like to be able to sprint around with all the dragons in the series so I’ll actually remove armor if I have to lol. The humanity tip is solid though, I should have mentioned that in the video. I’ve run through this game so many times by this point I almost never bother putting time into my resistances anymore just out of sheer laziness 😅. (Can’t remember the last time I reinforced my armor lol.)
That being said, it definitely pays off to be prepared so nice work on your build. Well played.
The Ghost Initiative Your way is far easier and far more elegant! And getting NOT hit at all far outweighs shrugging off a hit haha. I was also at SL 149 and he was my last fight before Gwynn. It annoys me how many times they switch out fire based damage for being magical based. I was using the fire damage ring and was getting nervous the way the fire was draining my health.

My tip, Great shield of Artorias, what a beast of a shield. I tried the Black Great shield instead to see the difference as it had higher fire resistance, the difference is HUGE! You dont get knocked down very much, the stamina drain from block is like quarter a bar tops whereas the black shield the dragon nearly knocks the whole bar out and you get additional damage. This made the fight careful, heal after he hits his breath weapon, stay towards his rear if you can, then pummel as you can. Whoosh, dead dragon.

That’s correct, its been over 3 years but I’m willing to bet my stats are somewhere in the ballpark of 30str/30dex/20int/20fth for that build.

I been playing this on Switch & I almost had Kalmeet 1st try. Then he one hitted me with idk what. Since then I can't get him past half health till that one shot comes. Thanks for the video
So I accidentally answered no, I hope I can go to the dragon and come back and it works because reloading does not work.
I can't dodge anything for some reason. Attempting to dodge into his attacks fails. Running away fails. Even his straight-ahead breath attack always gets me. Blocking with a 100% reduction shield and 100 poise staggers me too much to recover.
I truly suck at this game and/or pattern recognition.
What’s your equipment load? There are different breakpoints for the percentage of your maximum equipment load that you’re using that will increase the invulnerability on your rolls. If you take off some armor and get your equipment load under 25%, you’ll do a fast roll and it’ll be easier to dodge everything assuming you’re not already fast rolling.
@@TheGhostInitiative I'm definitely not fast rolling, but I'm pretty sure I'm on the faster mid roll. Looking at what I've got equipped right now, I'm at 34.3/109.5, but I'm still messing around with gear/weapon combos to see what I can even do. I can probably go with full Gold Hemmed since getting hit by him is so devastating anyway.
This is obviously my first play through, and first experience with the Souls franchise (Remastered, PC), and I've been trying to play without looking up too much information... but this guy is killing me. Literally.

The gold hemmed set actually has decent fire/magic defense so it isn’t too bad for absorbing some of his breath.
I’m working on a video that covers rolling right now so I have this info handy: fast rolls are about 30% shorter than mid rolls (meaning more rolls in less time) and you’re invulnerable for over half of the animation vs the mid roll where you are only invulnerable for a third of the animation. That’s actually the only speed for midrolls in this game so getting down to that 25% equip load point should help a lot.

I’m in the same boat. Just can’t seem to avoid his horizontal swipes, the debuff or his dive. The most I’ve managed is 4 hits on him before I get stomped/fried.

I cheesed Manus with a bow, and Artorias with 2 handed weapon. I'm looking forward to this one.
I got the remaster for ps4 played it didn't do dlc got it for the switch realized it had the dlc killed the sanctuary guardian and artoras but killed the guy who sold his armor then did it again on Ng+ and that was easier then Ng++ tried manus and failed same with kalmeet Ng+++ killed manus only kalmeet to go

was really struggling with kalameet until i saw this video. using a 100% physical reduction shield really helped me win the fight. i used the Tower Shield and beat it right after 🤞
What sword are you using btw?
I accidentally hit him while he was talking and it skipped me having to save quit, and he didnt get aggrod
How do you get a weapon that does more than 80 damage to this guy?

+5 greatsword of artorias and his armor to match. Not sure what my stats were exactly as this was a long time ago but I was running a quality build if I was using that sword (half strength/half dex)

This dragons attacks were pretty simple and "easy" to dodge compared to the King of the Storm and Darkeater Midir from Dark Souls 3. I think i may have gotten lucky because I killed it on my first try. But I wasn't going for the tail so maybe that's why I didn't die.

Gough *is* blind, they poured lightning, fire or poison resin through the eye holes of his helmet onto his eyes...
You’re free to have your own opinion on the matter as it isn’t confirmed what the truth actually is, but it’s pretty widely accepted in the souls community that he merely thinks he is blind because the eye holes are packed with resin. It’s also not lightning, fire, or poison, but rather just tree sap.
I kid you not the first time I did Kalameet and tried to cut his tail it took me an entire night. And once i did, it took me a minute to kill him cuz i had his patterns down perfectly by that point 😂
to be honest, the real challenge is cutting the tail

You have to go to kalameet’s arena and slide down the ladder to activate the boss first. You can then homeward bone out and talk to gough again and he will shoot down kalameet

It's hilarious to me that people think he and Sinh are more or less the same. Totally different fights and Sinh is decidedly not even close in looks, as some people say.

Dragon crest shield + strongest Magic shield buff stops all fire attacks from him so I think the fire is just magic but him having high magic resistance and me a mag build doesn’t help he one shots me 😥

The only boss where mid-high stamina points is needed to beat this guy especially if you're a heavy melee build. unfortunately mines was low so i had to soul farm to get more endurance, upgrade estus for plus 5, then replace the armor for as light as possible if not nude to get better s. i also ended up having to bait his flight then hit with a one swing once he lands before he does the tail spin swipe into fire breathe. this asshole dragon has an answer for everything. he isn't as tough as Ancient dragon or Midir but he's definitely quicker which is a problem if your build is not prep for it.
