Hi everyone! I've been working on this trendy crochet cardigan for a while now. I'm super happy with how it turned out! It could even pass as a store-bought cardigan! It uses the lemon peel stitch, but it can easily be swapped out with an easier stitch like the double crochet. It is very simple and cozy and I hope you enjoy this tutorial!
Materials:
Bernat Softee Cotton Yarn in "Seaside Blue": amzn.to/3RRJD8b
- Weight: Light (3)
- Fiber: 60% Cotton, 40% Acrylic
- Approximate total length: 1270 yd / 1160 m
- Approximate total weight: 21 oz / 600 g
5.0 mm Clover Amour Crochet Hook: amzn.to/3noE9mz
Yarn Needle
Scissors
Project Level:
This project is pretty big, so it isn't ideal for an absolute beginner. I do go over every new stitch that we do, so it definitely is possible! Most of the stitches used are beginner level. We do, however, do some sewing to put the panels together! Another option would be to slip stitch the seams together instead!
Stitches:
Slip Knot (sk)
Chain (ch)
Double Crochet (dc)
Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc)
Back Post Double Crochet (bpdc)
Slip Stitch (sl st)
Single crochet (sc)
Gauge:
9 lemon peels (18 sc+dc) - 16 rows = 4 in / 10 cm
Dimensions:
Sleeves - 19 cm/7.5" wide x 40 cm/15.5" long
Back Panel - 38 cm/15" long x 44 cm/17.5" wide
Front Panels - 38 cm/15" long x 19 cm/7.5" wide
Tips:
- Tighten your slip stitches to make the seam smaller and less visible
- The chain 1 at the beginning of each round does NOT count as a single crochet
- Pull your loose ends to the inside of the cardigan and weave them in (or leave them hanging!)
Send me a picture of your finished cardigan on Instagram @viv.crochets! I’d love to see it!
Thanks for watching!

I succeeded to complete the cardigan as you taught. It took 9 days to complete it. Very beautiful cardigan and I really like it. Very easy to understand. Thank you for your guidance. Love you 🥰🌼
Wonderful ! Are you a beginner in crochet or you're already comfortable with it ?
@@wonderland1330 I am a beginner sis 😁
@@nurjannah922 great 😀 I'm too and yeah u gave me the courage to make it.
@@wonderland1330 Wow, that's good! The important thing is don't give up easily okay even if it takes a long time to complete. FIGHTING! 🌼🥰
Did your sleeve keep increasing? Mine does but idk why
Finally a cardigan pattern that isn't made from double crochets! It looks so good with the lemon peel stitch!
hi, just curious and new to crocheting 😊 Is there a negative side to double crochets? or did you just say that because thats whats most commonly used 🤔
@@kodalachswanderung5433 It’s just pretty common since it’s the stitch to used to make things quicker and uses less yarn!
@@minhyukisadolphin4849 Thank you 😊
When you finished the first sleeve, GIRLLL THAT WAS SO SATISFYING ANF FLAT AND EVENNN
I am a serious beginner, like I’ve never crocheted before but this is really making me want to learn. My brain already hurts from trying to take everything in but this cardigan is so cute, I will definitely be mastering the stitches and coming back to try and make this.
Edit to the replies under this comment: I’ve been crocheting for a year now and I’ve improved so much. Thank you for all the encouragement. I have yet to make this pattern, as I’ve been busy and getting constantly distracted by other patterns but I am determined to make it one day! I hope you all do well in crocheting too!
u got this! 😎
how’s it going? 😊
Stay with it! It’s so worth it.
I'm a beginner too! How's crocheting?
Yes yes!! I love the fact that you had an illustration to explain the different pieces and their placements! I find it a bit hard to follow other tutorials on cardigans cause I need to visualize my steps before I start…Thank you!!❤️❤️
So glad it helped! Thank you for the feedback, I’ll keep this in mind for future tutorials!!
I used to crochet a lot as a kid and just a few days ago I saw one of your videos on my recommended and remembered how much fun I actually had doing it. I'm definitely going to try and make this, your tutorials are so well-explained and easy to follow! thank you so much for indirectly reminding me of one of my childhood passions
Thank you, I love to hear things like this! I'm so happy for you!!
Fun fact: The lemon peel stitch is also known as a houndstooth stitch if you switch colours between rows! You can type it up and you can make a really nice sweater vest!
Thank you! I didn’t know this..and am definitely going to give this a go!🎉😊❤
@@teresa_davis Np! Have fun 💜🤩🥳
With your videos, I honestly sit down and just enjoy them so much! They're very relaxing and afterwards I can put them in my to-do list bc they're always super cute as well :)

What a great teacher. You explain things so well in your calm voice. Will definitely try to crochet this

This is soo easy to follow! I m gonna try this for sure, thanks!💜
So fashionable. It’s easy to change the size and can be created with two different colors for a houndstooth pattern. Brilliant! Thank you!
Omg i finished your sweater tutorial *yesterday* and it's one of my favorite pieces I've made! Can't wait to start this one with the weight three skeins I randomly bought the other week. Very serendipitous 🖤 Thank you SO much!

can't wait to make this one!
thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial ❤
This is literally the best tutorial I have ever seen Finally I can make a cardigan. Thank you so much!! I will be making three of these for my kiddos for Christmas:))
thank you so much this is what i’ve been searching for
It’s beautifully done, thank you, your videos are so impressive.
looks absolutely beautiful
I really like how you start with the sleeves
To stop the weird increase after a bit, try skipping the last one or two stiches instead of fully completing the round. It gives a more uniform shape. I started doing that after like the 5th or 6th round.
Did you do 5 rows of increases?
I finally finished mine and it came out beautiful! The way you teach is amazing. I’m looking forward to more videos!
Such a great tutorial! Thanks
Omg, I really love it, and I'm so happy for find your channel, I really, really love it 💗

I showed this video to my mom and she's gonna make this cardigan for me thank u sm
This is actually the very best crochet cardigan that I have ever seen anyone make on utube before. A mighty well done to you for producing such a professional totally neat and superbly fitted well end result!🥰🥰🥰

I’m proud to say I FINALLY FINALLY finished the cardigan :)
Thank you dear for sharing your skillful and efficient work with us. Thanks a lot
Awesome video! I plan to make one for my daughter!
this is so cute! can't wait to make it. Yarn prices be crazy though
I really love your videos!!! The things u make are so coooll!!!😊
Thank you for your tutorial, i really Love It ❤️❤️
I love this cardigan so much, I've made it twice now and it's just such a fantastic piece to add to the wardrobe. The instructions are super clear, it works up beautifully, and it looks so professional when it's finished. I made my first one in a berry piece over the summer and I've just finished a second one in more of a rusty orange. You always put out such articulate and easy to follow tutorials, Viv! I learned to crochet using your ribbed beanie video and have made a little over a half a dozen of those. I've since branched out into learning to knit, but I like to keep coming back to your channel to see the new projects you've been putting out. I'm so parasocially proud of you!! lol
This is so sweet! Thank you so much ☺️
BEAUTIFUL!! 💜
Thank you!
this is so cute!
Thank you so much for your easy tutorial um almost done with my cardigan 😊
Just finished the second sleeve and starting on the back. I'm so excited to see the finshed result!

I used a category 4 yarn and didn't adjust it so it ended up coming out oversized which I absolutely love. Thinking of adding pockets. Thanks for this easy to follow tutorial!
I can’t believe that I completely missed this comment! It looks so good and wow, your first crochet clothing piece?! I love the colors. They’re so fun and the cardigan overall looks really well done!
@@lonnieg2055 it looks amazing, I prefer bigger sleeves.

I’m crocheting a cardigan atm and I kinda messed up but this video is so helpful thank you 😭🫶🏻🫶🏻
I recently bought wool and staring from tomorrow hope I can make it
Thanks for your tutorial & explaining it as you crochet. It’s very clear & easy to follow & not rushed- I really appreciate the time you showed how to make this cardigan😉👍💕
Hi! I usually don't leave any comments, but i just finished this cardigan after a few weeks of work, working on and off on the project, and i can say that it turned out so nice ! thanks a lot for the tutorial!
I used a 4mm hook, which is a bit smaller than the one used for the tutorial. So, for those wondering, i think that you can just measure the piece that u're working on as u go with cm or inches, and it will turn out just as fine.
I have larger shoulders, so I adapted my pattern, and the back panel is 56cm wide = 21 and 1/2 inch. Turned out perfect!
Have fun crocheting everyone!
amazing!!
gonna try this😍💖
This is awesome! Ty so much!
As a beginner i found your tutorials the easiest to follow and i love them sm. I was wondering if maybe you could make a tutorial of how to make an infinity scarf i would really appreciate it. Please and thank you ❤️
Thank you so much and that's a great idea, but I think it'll be best to wait until winter! Thanks for the suggestion!
i would love one too 🤗
Great job! Thank you!
my first cardigan ever, and also the first piece of clothing I've ever made.
Your voice is so sweet and the way you explain the steps makes it really easier, thank you so much for this incredible video! hugs and kisses from Brazil
hi! i literally just binged half your videos, could you please do a tutorial for a literal granny square, im just starting and all the other tutorials ive watched are hard to understand, yours are actually so easy to understand and your videos are actually fun to watch.
Hello! It’s so crazy to think that someone could binge my videos, so thank you so much! I’m actually planning on doing a granny square bag soon, stay tuned! If you want any help with it sooner, DM on Instagram @viv.crochets and I’ll be happy to help

@@VivCrochets welcome 😭💖💖
It's a beautiful cardigan 🥰
Thank you so much!
Nice,,beautifull cardigan👍
Okay so I’m 9 months pregnant and I haven’t been crocheting for a while since I’ve been mid semester as well as moving and being pregnant. Anyways, I miss crocheting but I’m not able to do it now as everything is still in boxes 🥲🤣 So lately I’ve been watching your videos before bed and on top of genuinely learning a lot, you also have such a soothing voice that it helps me get better sleep! I usually can only sleep an hour or two at a time but after one of your videos I can sleep the whole night. I hope that doesn’t seem offensive because I promise your videos aren’t like boring me to sleep or anything, they are so educational and helpful to me. Also I’ve never made clothes so it’s so interesting how they come together
That’s amazing! No offense taken at all. I’m glad my videos are helpful and that you’re getting more sleep! I hope you get to crochet soon!
You really help us a lot ...thank you so much...keep going✊🤘
Precioso ❤️
Thank you for this tutorial, really understandable for beginners :)) Love!!! Im gonna try this one.
Cute, I love it
Thank you!
beautiful💕💕..i hope can make a long cardigan version
Thank you!
I'll definitely make one for my girl and give it to her on 3rd of December
I love it
Thank you so much for your videos
You’re welcome! I enjoy making them!
THANK YOU ❤️
Me huevee** pero quedó precioso, me voy a esforzar mucho!!
Beautiful. I am going to watch the tutorial. I hope it can be made as a long torso?❤
I came over from a RUclips shorts video suggestion. It is a lovely cardigan. I have never made a cardigan before, really any clothing besides hats and scarfs but as I have made Amiguri I am not a total novice either. I would like to try my hand at this however I would need a higher size. I am a Lg but like the over size look so I go for Xl most of the time. How canI achieve this you seem not to have a written pattern. Thank you so much for the help!!!
done after few months of lazy work. i made chocolate cream and it turns out looks pricey. thank you vm
Looks amazing! I'm definitely going to try and make in the future! How long would you say this project takes?
Thank you! I’d say it took about 20-30 hours for me
Beeelliiisimo beeelliiisimo!!!
Wow I just stumbled upon your tutorial while looking for new crochet inspo for some lemon yellow yarn I just bought! This is so perfect!!!
If you want to make a puffier sleeve, would you just do more increases in the first row of your sleeve, or would you want to do increases later on as well?
So cool, I hope it helps! This pattern immediately puffs out at the cuff, and doesn’t increase. If you want it like this, add more initial stitches on top of the ribbing. If you want it to gradually increase, then you would do increases! But the 2nd option is not as puffy as the 1st
Thanks ,
Okay I plan on updating my progress/how long it takes me to crochet the cardigan if anyones interested
Day 1: this day is starting in the evening I have gotten both cuffs done it took me awhile to figure out how to do them properly but none the less there done and look prettt good I will start on sleeves tomorrow
Day 2: I’m starting early in the morning and just finished the 10th row on my first sleeve
