Jeep Gladiator Rubicon vs Moab Cliff Hanger Trail

- Now that our Jeep Gladiator is on a 3" Rock Krawler X Factor lift and 37" Milestar Patagonia tires we wanted to take it to Moab to run the hardest trails Moab has to offer. Our second stop was the Cliff Hanger trail which is rated an 8 out of 10 in difficulty and is not for the faint of heart. The largest obstacle on this trail runs along the side of a very large cliff which adds to it's pucker factor. With us were our friends in their Jeep Wrangler JLU Rubicon on 37s, and a Jeep Wrangler JKU Sport on 35s.

Agreed. Black Bear 🐻 Pass scares me as a teenager in the late 80’s. Now as an adult it makes me want to strap a parachute 🪂 on my back. And I wouldn’t even think of doing it in the rain.

"Bring me my brown pants!" That looks like fun but my wife refused to watch the cliffside drive lol. Every time I see the gladiator at Moab I'm more impressed at what it can do with that longer wheelbase! I just ordered mine today and can't wait to get it in! And I'm only about 4.5 hours from the BoH trails in AR so hopefully we'll see each other on the trail one day!

That difficult hill made me pucker up just watching the video!!! A small part of me wants to build a jeep and do this kind of a trail. The much bigger part says HELL NO! I will just enjoy watching you do it!!!

I did this trail some years back in my 2011 JK with only front lockers. That spot you are talking about is the only spot on the trail that gave me trouble.

That Rock krawler suspension is pretty new are you getting creaking noises like that in your daily driving as well or just off road?
I was a dufus and forgot to grease the joints after installing it. I greased them as soon as I got back and it's super quiet now!!
Heading west from Charlotte NC in a couple weeks, plan to do the Rubicon Jeep Jamboree and a few days in Moab. I’m on 2.5”, 37” tires and a complete under armor set up but I’ll be by myself with just the wife and kids, what’s some trails you’d recommend to do in Moab that wouldn’t get to ugly but still be a challenge?
People must be holding the steering wheel at 6 o'clock position.
Every time they are told to Turn Driver, they turn the opposite direction.

Yep. I took it to Moab and it did great and had no problems keeping up with the 100+ degree temps.

I noticed your suspension squeeking a lot. If I remember right it is Rock Krawler. I have a Rock Krawler lift on my JLUR and had the same problem. I believe the noise is coming from the sway bar links. I called them and asked about it and was sent new sleeves for the swaybar links. Apparently some were cut too short and when torque to spec, the bushing is actually being smashed. Installed the new sleeves and the problem was fixed. Might be worth looking into as it could become a safety issue down the road.

Great video on cliff hanger. Id like to know what the lift is and the tire size on the Gladiator. I have a 2” Mopar lift and 35” tires and wonder how I’d do on this trail.

Looks like some standard steel "D" slot or "bullet" hole rims, but more curious about his tires.. what typpe.... looks like they wernt doing him any favors compared to the patagonias. Great video ! Bummer on the CV. The 4runner would have still gone on this trail though no? Does the 4runner have spindle gussets as well?
Robert wasn't planning on taking the 4Runner on this trail anyway. We were going to run Steelbender first but ran this one first instead so the 4Runner could be fixed and run Steelbender in the afternoon.

I just got back from Moab but didn't attempt the Cliffhanger, do you think it could be done in a stock "Extreme Recon" Rubicon?
Definitely. The JK with us was on a mild lift and 35s with no lockers. You would be just fine.

I recently did Cliffhanger. It was no joke. JLUD on 35’s with lift and had to get pulled up the famous Cliffhanger obstacle.

Best thing you can do if youre running a spare off the back on a small lift JK is take a hitch and flip it upside down so it runs up and under the spare like a slider.. So it takes the slide on those drops and not grabbing your spare on it to rip off.
I wasn’t running a spare on this one.

What gears are you running with the 37s?
In this video I had the stock 4.10s. I have since regeared to 5.29s and running 38s.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures how was the 4:10 with 37? I’m planning a trip out to Moab Aug and currently running 3.5 lift on 35s would like to go 37 and 4:88 but if the 4:10 is fine with 37 for now I’d rather save the cash. Also driving from NH to Moab 2400 miles
I didn’t think Cara would have been so scared of being on the edge like that. Guess it’s always different when you’re in the passenger seat.
Being in the passenger seat is very different than being the driver.

I just couldn’t. The off camber parts were ALWAYS leaning to the passenger side with the bluff being RIGHT there!!!! I would much rather be driver!!!!

I’m sorry Matt. As a headphone watcher I had to abandon ship 🛳 about 15 minutes into the video. The overpoweringly loud suspenseful Indiana Jonesish music was just to much for me brother.
