Step by step, a mile at a time. You can indeed be proud 👏 There's a lot you can take with you from this BYU and you'll go into the next one, better prepared - especially mentally, you'll know what is coming and how you're going to feel. The constant ups and downs, sometimes drastically going from "i have so much energy!" to "there's no way I can make it another 1k", are part of the game and it's key to remind yourself that you're not stuck at just the low. Also, I really felt the 💩 story - at my last BYU I ran my fastest loop with the thought of "ok, either fill up your bottles or 💩 at base", managed to take care of both though🤞😅 Keep going, set the goals just above what you think you can achieve and you're good 👏
I really appreciate this, there's so much here. Not being stuck at the low is definitely a key take away; in the moment it feels like forever, which is why I was so done mentally at lap 6. But every time that I was so down, the next lap was significantly easier. Hahaha, yeah I had definitely thought that the bathroom break would happen much sooner, which I think played against me. I had planned to have a fast "poop-lap" but never felt like it was the right time. Live and learn! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and insight!
Running coach here - Yeah, for ultra stuff... don't run anybody else's pace. You were smart to run your own pace when it got hard. And heck yeah, UnderArmor heat gear is the best, hot or cold. Stops abrasions and quality is fantastic. Acts as a nice base layer in the cold.
Thank you! There were definitely pros and cons to the pace change; I think going at my own pace would have gone better if I had remembered to listen to music so that that could occupy my mind!
@@kostasbach3027 Oh, I have a great tip on that! Start off listening to either talking podcasts or audio books. After a few hours, switch over to chill music. Then towards the end as things get hard, switch to heavy metal or rap to keep your energy up for as long as possible. I've done it a dozen times and it works great!
Well done bud!! Such a great story. People who are non-runners (or even non athletic) often say things like "it's all mental".....well if it's "all mental" then you go do it LOL. Our bodies can only do so much. Sounds like you called it at the right time before your body got injured. Now get out there and train so next time it can go even further:)
Thank you! I definitely find that to be true as well; people love to contemplate without action. I myself have often watched Backyard Ultra videos and thought that 24 hours would be easy. But it's only by doing that we realize how hard things really are. It gives me such respect for professionals and even amateurs who go far beyond what anyone thinks possible for a "regular" person. Thank you for watching and for the encouragement!
Thank you! Haha yeah, it was pretty wild. Looking forward to finally having proper time to prep now that I am running more consistently and am able to condition properly! Thanks for the support!
Hahaha yeah it was definitely not ideal, but what can you do? 6 months will definitely give you enough time to build a solid base and condition. Let me know how it goes!
Great race! I know you are your biggest critic, but take it easy on yourself. You have a sense of feeling, and you will redeem yourself. My respects to you. Do you have Strava?
Thank you! I am looking forward to pushing hard for redemption come the 2025 race season! I do have a Strava account, but I am not really active on it. I need to take the time to figure it out more and haven't done that as of yet. Will look more into it shortly though for sure! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, I really appreciate that!
Wow! Well done! Thank you for sharing..!🎉
It's an amazing achievement! I'm proud of you, my friend!!
Thank you Sean!

To only train for 10 weeks and attempt this is insane! Hell of a job buddy head up

Nice edit man. Great job.
I appreciate that, brother!
keep it up great race even if you gave up.
Thank you! It's all learning for the next one!
10 weeks from 0 base? Wild man! Here I am wondering if 6 months is enough to even sign up for one.
Hahaha yeah it was definitely not ideal, but what can you do?
