I work in tax compliance and reporting. I have my associates and my base salary is $40k- granted I work in the tax department so the first quarter of the year, we work large amounts of overtime which increases my overall annual salary. Someone close to me belittled me for “selling myself short”. Oh I must add that I sold my ‘new’ car this October. It was a 2020 Toyota Corolla hybrid. I am happy, I am (almost) debt free! And my job is a 10 min walk😅 so the car isn’t a necessity at the moment. Anyways, happiness is measured differently for everyone and we shouldn’t put a price tag 🏷 on one’s happiness.

I can’t believe how many PCP’s are also quitting due to the hospital making them see so many patients with in the hour. Mistakes are made and patients are made to feel the care is not there at all. Really appreciated this video. You are absolutely right! Money is not everything. Life is too short to be at a job/position that you dread every day and are miserable the whole time. Thanks for all this information.
Well please don’t delete your channel/old videos! I’m currently going back to school to finish up my psych bachelors and FINALLY begin/finish my goal of becoming an psychiatric np (which honestly is turning into me changing into the clinical psychology path with me becoming a new mommy) and so I NEED your videos lol…
As an NP (Adult certified) who has worked in psychiatry I believe you made the right decision to resign. The practice model you were in wasn't safe for your own mental health and didn't respect your autonomy as a provider. When there's no work/life balance no amount of money is worth it. Even it was $1 million/ year I'd quit as well.
I've been both a CNA and a psych patient for a long time . I've seen plenty of burnout in psychiatry . I wouldn't choose that job long term either. It's always been a wicked profession. Glad you moved on .
RDH needs an hour per PT. If you work at a franchise dental institute like bright now get out of there. Absolute best place to work is surprisingly a prison. My mom's an RDH makes close 40 an hour to clean inmates teeth. 90% of time the inmates don't show for their own appointment, they rather stay in bed. If they ever are a little difficult you can deny them. Correctional officers will escort them back to their room. The doctor above you, everyone else in medical, gets paid regardless of how many patients they see. You're there for legal reasons. Most of the day my mom watches RUclips and talks to coworkers.
Support means everything. That money is not worth your license, which you are risking when you are working without the proper support. I’ve been an NP for 12 years and have worked a few jobs with little to no support. Eventually I left those jobs to protect my license.
As a new grad about to take the board exam, this is my dilemma in choosing my first job. I understand you have to be very productive to justify higher pay. I am leaning toward a job with lower pay with “less stress” and more support. Money will come later… Thank you so much for your insight!
Yes, it's a dilemma for a lot of people. Seeing a big number is enticing and all but when you think about what you have to do to get to that number, it isn't worth it sometimes. I always suggest getting a job at 32 hours a week, where it's slower pace and where you can learn as much as possible (typically for lower salary) and getting another job at 8-16 hours a week where you get paid off of productivity. If you go this route, you can make up the difference in pay
Great Insight! I appreciate your candidness, regarding professional vulnerabilities associated with NP career pursuit choices. I'm confident, that, you are a great provider.
Can you elaborate on what your new situation is? You said that you are now doing multiple jobs at once… what are the different jobs you are working now? Are you working with multiple psych organizations? what does a week look like working the multiple jobs at once which you are doing?
Working as casual nurse or different career is the way to go. The culture, stress and burnout in nursing is not worth it. Most nurses who don't balance their work and life often end up with Chronic diseases and substance abuse issues. Always remember that we work to live, not live to work. God bless.
Nurses get paid WAY less on all sectors in the United Kingdom. I would definitely love to fill in the shoes of those that would give up these opportunities cuz it beats being overworked and underpaid. We’re talking £27,000 per year after Tax starting salary, which is what most nurses get paid here. Think it’s time I pack and leave london after finishing my masters
Your rationale is exactly why I left a high stress, high pay critical care hospital job for a low pay, low stress job. Bur after a year I'm bored. broke and considering PMHNP programs, lol.

Of course it has never happenede because she was in charge for long time and too busy with making me obstacles to success. But karma is a bitch Seh is not head nurse anywhere now, in the age of 54 she went back working as a regular shift nurse.
dude I have been watching you for a long time and was not subscribed smh
all these nurses have the same pattern, they quick the hard stressful job, a job, and go to YT to rant and be an influencer
You are your only true advocate. Stick to your guns!
Very repetitive
i quit toooooo... party time....
Dang dawg, you tripping. Lol I don't get it to be honest, but it's your life so who am I.
Hahaha trust me, I'm not. Working for myself, being able to see less patients, spending more time with my patient and making more than that is not tripping at all 😂
@@LifeofaPsychNP Oh dang. You right then, shit maybe my shoe laces came untied lol 😂.
corporate greed in medical care....Sad
Been there it's horrible
Why?
I explain it in the video, you'll see why
do you know the average salary for a psychiatric physician assistant in los angeles?
I'm not sure what the average is in LA but I know many psych PAs in Orange County that made around $55-65/hour W2 on average
Dang 172,000 an hour lol 😆
Lmao 🤣 oops. Imagine making that much and working 12 hour shifts 😳
If nursing is so stressful, just become a librarian.. Simple
I'm sure organizing and keeping track of books is far more stressful than nursing lol
@@LifeofaPsychNP exactly!
Shouldn’t librarians be less stressed than a nurse? They don’t deal with tough patients and they’re in a quiet environment.
What's the average salary in CA?
It totally ranges but anywhere from 140k to 180k but it seems like it's dropping
@@LifeofaPsychNP goes up with experience?
@@KD-nr9tm generally speaking yes, but if you get paid outside of salary or hourly such as percentage, it's based on productivity and how many patients you can see
Do you feel like it's dropping because of market saturation? I hope it doesn't get bad as the fnp route.
@@T22456 I personally do think it's partly because of market saturation and partly because of new grads not knowing their worth and accepting any low paying job.
Not real. Your still there 😅
Dude said $170k hour lol
Jealous? Lol
my friend, you are complaining too much. just type your shit when the patient is there and you are done when the patient leaves. as a new grad saw 35 patents within 6 months in 6 hours.
Hahah as a PMHNP? I actually like talking to my patient instead of typing and looking down . Also, I was seeing patients in person not telepsych, huge difference
You got paid 170k an hour lol?
I wish, I got paid 170k a year lol 😂
first
Niceeee
@@LifeofaPsychNP do you feel like where you attend NP school matters? Would going to a brick and mortar school in Cali increase your chance in getting a job?
Honestly, right now, I don't think it really matters that much. I think in the future it will make a difference. If you attend a local brick and mortar, more than likely the local jobs will know that school and that will influence where you go to school but I don't think it made me more competitive.
I thought this was click bait. It's not. 🤣
