  • Old man vs kick starter and primary drive. Spoiler, old man wins the round. I’d really like to thank my customers for giving me the engines nobody else will touch. How better to hone your skills? As usual the devil is in the details. Primary chain alignment, kickstarter gears and ratchet gear clearances can really ruin your day if not correct. This old engine keeps throwing curve balls and fights me at every step. Stick with me as one problem after another is discovered and laid to rest…

    One thing I've learned from watching your videos. It never works for me the way you do it. 😆 All joking aside, I'm grateful for you sharing your knowledge. It gives me confidence to work deeper into my 75 ironhead.

    Man I wish I had found your channel a year ago when I was putting my 74 #s matching xlh together . Not that it was a bad build I've put 1200+ miles on it and it seems to be running perfect. But you have inspired me to be much more inquisitive and thorough for my 73 xlch also a # matching bike .

      Thanks, FYI RUclips had blocked this comment due to "blocked word" , the words looked ok to me so I approved it. Thank You, it usually pays to do some diiging into the machine to make the most of it.

    You inspire trust. Hope you're still in business when I need a lower end someday on my '69 XLCH.

    Greetings From Siberia. Another first class production from I.H.C. world headquarters. I hope everything is going well for you and Peg. It is good to see professor Moffitt the wizard of all things Ironhead conducting class as it should be conducted. You are much more entertaining than some of the professors I had in University, some were actually pretty good but intellectually I think you have far surpased some of them. As we have discussed before, my older brother used to say to me all the time why do you do the jobs you do. We have the same answer, who else is going to do it. When I worked at the dealership one of the owner's favorite sayings was not knowing has never stopped us before. I know you and I both graduated from the same technical school of hard knocks and patience testing though in different parts of the world. This engine building should be straight forward shouldn't it. How hard could it be right. Your pension should be good seeing you are Mechanic, Machinist, Clarvoyent, Magician, Electrician. Wizard and whatever else someone decides to give you because you are simply not busy enough. Oh I forgot Historian .I did catch you not bending the tabs on the lockwasher. I hope you got my message and pictures of the tool and my banter. Take Care From The North Gary

      I did get the last email with the pictures of the tool, thank you. I might do a variation on that next time I have to pull a stubborn extension. Good catch on the lock tab, you caught my button head screw drain plugs too. I might start doing videos just to see if I can slip something past you.

    There's a big difference between a 30 tooth sprocket and a 34 tooth, what's that gonna do for engine performance?

    • @IronHeadCycle
      @IronHeadCycle  3 года назад +1

      Yes there is. This engine had a 18T sprocket on the trans mainshaft, the parts book indicates that stock would have been 22T. I assume the original builder was trying to make up for the 34T front primary sprocket.
