Love the explanation of the fourth wall! The thing I love the most besides the weirdness of it is the fact that I’m experiencing way more the environment around me when shooting with the X4/3 than with traditional cameras. When interacting with wildlife this is so enjoyable and it still allows me to create memories to share with friends and family while at the same time making the most of the moment. I sometimes hate the fact that I spend so many dives experiencing them through the tiny Sony screen 😅
That was the most poetic review I've ever seen. Great work! I just got my X4 recently and I am blown away how well it works and how easy it is to operate. Swimming through a Sardine swarm im 360° results in mindblowing footage. The software is so much better than the GoPro software.
Thank you for your honest and detailed review including comparisons with X3. As an underwater photographer/videographer this is the review that I was looking for ! Now I will keep X3 and wait for -may be- X5. Thanks so much Daan! Cheers :)
@@DaanVerhoeven You already show that you can make a total video of weirdness.. From mouth to caves to bubble ring.. You can do it, easily! I could eventually make something.. Lol. I don't have the resources to even edit 4k.. But, whale season (winter) just breaks my heart wide open!! Maybe one day, you two will catch me for a Maui winter.. But, we need contributions to run the boat. Lol. Or just go kayaking... The whales are out of this world! And, we have some lava tubes to swim through. Yeah, 360 degrees. Trouble is, it's not how we see anything and when we look at films, I think we want to be able to see what we would see if we were diving, not that weird wrap-around shit. But I'm sure some people are going to LOVE IT.
Loved your review, not a fan of the camera, but I am very much a fan of being strange, LOL ... so, yes, you should DEFINITELY shoot a story with this one! ;-)
mad! I love all your little notes within the video :) I'd personally love to give one a go, and try to shoot a whole narrative on one! It'd be super fun to do a collaborative effort on it and see what madness comes out the other end - maybe at the 2025 Bristol Blue?!!
Hello, thank you very much for your research. This is the most useful review for me on using X4 only for underwater videos. And most importantly your right message to analyze - can this camera be the only one to make the videos you have planned. Thank you 🤝
Is it seal nose resistant? Now we know. :) Thanks Daan, excellent review. Personally I am utterly tired with action cam fish eye lensing on GoPros alike. Matter of preference I guess.
yes - what would be great is an action camera with a 1 inch sensor and a 20mm f1.4 lens, with attachments for macro and one for wide. Like an Olympus tough but then with a good sensor
@@DaanVerhoeven OMG yes! Like I want to rip out what DJI Mavic drone has on top of it and just use it as a waterproofed action cam. GoPro has an software option to turn the fish eye curvature "off" but even with this option you can't cheat physics.. :/
Very informative Review... i struggled so long if i should buy or not ( mostly for making of shots when iam alone in the water)... Especially with all the incfluencers hyping it and almost no diving reviews were on the internet. But your video made it clear to me that i am right to wait. Quality can be ok underwater in perfect condition. But thats not worth for me 700+ Bucks ... and on top i saw the insta in real life... With the dive house it is really big and too much to for travel if u already have gopro, and SLR. .... And one scratch and its ruined... :/
I’m sure you could do some cool things with it. I’m imagining your video of Stig Pridz zooming through a crack in the reef or the Sophia Rocks video shot in 360. It seems to me that the 360 camera idea depends a lot on there being interesting things surrounding the subject. It’s probably a lot less interesting perspective if it’s just the subject surrounded by featureless blue void, because then there’s not really a sense of motion. Personally I’m still figuring out my little TG-6.
Question: can you life stream the 3D image from underwater trough a cable? I'm thinking of placing one or two at a pool competition and allow the viewers to focus on their favourite athlete.
in theory, yes, though connecting the cable to the camera while keeping it watertight will probably be your main practical hurdle. The camera itself is waterproof, but the wifi signal won't travel in water.
Excellent review Daan! Highly recommend this for all who are thinking about using it underwater. I've also done a fair amount of shots with it so far and agree everything. Now I only take it under if I know there's great conditions there and let it shine! 😊. One thing I would like to add is that when shooting in bright and clear conditions, the camera can make a real good job with the automatic white balance! I was stunned how nice it handled it when I dove through the Bells in Dahab! Check it out if you have the time! 😉
We use kitchen baking paper on the board under the food . Big Warning …… not joking …… Titanium is a metal commonly used in hip joint replacements. The older ones wear because they are in direct contact with tissue and the ball joints themselves ! The metal, just like on these new boards, leaches into the body, damaging cells and tissues. The process is called Metallosis and is just about irreversible ! A close family member suffered badly. The medicos were stumped ….. nobody had even heard of it, until one called up a specific blood test …. It is fatal.

I'll try that - usually I stay the hell away from auto-white as it is so hard to edit after
