I have quite a few Russian Capture K98ks. - Red lacquer on the stock - Stocks were sanded - Big X on the receiver - Missing sight hood - Missing trigger guard capture screws - Missing cleaning rod - Deep black finish on metal - Discolored extractor - Non matching serial numbers - New electro pencil serial numbers - Mixture of early milled & late stamped parts
I got lucky with my recent RC, "missing" sight hood but the barrel is actually an early enough revision that it didn't come with a sight hood so. Trigger guard capture screws are intact, has a cleaning rod, and all parts were milled not stamped.
Theses guns will keep going up in value with original parts and a good functional use. The history is there and these RC guns can be found in unused shape. Great value let the nerds chase the matching parts.
One of my favorite historical battle rifles ever. My Dad brought 2 of them home from the Korean War. I am impressed with the Mauser 98 action because the US used it on their M1903.
I have 2 k98 ‘s one my father bought back it’s a 1940 /147 , and my uncle’s 1939 , unfortunately his was sported in the 1950s . But my father’s is all matching even the cleaning rod .

Bought a nice RC in 2006. With my C&R it was 150 bucks. It’s a great shooter and looks great laminated stock.
