Facts across the board. Dude exaggerates everything just like every other wannabe car blogger. The funniest part about the DCT delay that he bitches about is it happens in cars like the Corvette C8 and the Lamborghini Huracan in exactly the same way. The Huracan is almost difficult to drive in city traffic because of it. This is just how DCTs work. It's also sufficiently fast. I traded a stage 2'd WRX and lost basically nothing in performance. If I'm saying that, coming from a manual transmission'd small AWD car sitting at over 500hp, the average SC buyer can take it to the bank.

Either way you modified the vehicles dimensions thus taking it out of factory parameters, and warranty. - Close your door firmly, not with a love tap - Storage is provided in the door panel, even for a water bottle. It's not an RV, Expedition nor Suburban, it's a mid-size Sport Utility Vehicle. Embrace the concept. - The Chimes? Turn them off if you so choose. That option is standard. Be Safe or Unsafe, your choice. - Also, regarding the volume of the radio... Use the conveniently and safely located controls on the steering wheel. The station can be changed here as well. - It is not 4WD, some are optioned with AWD, which you clearly demonstrated to work perfectly. This system delivers torque to the wheel in need. In summary, this vehicle is not for you. It is clear you do not understand the design. Always Read Your Owner's Manual.
- it's definitely NOT a midsize Sport Utility Vehicle (aka: SUV)... for Hyundai that would be a Santa Fe or Palisade. SUVs DO come with rear sear armrests. The Santa Cruz is a COMPACT TRUCK... Embrace the concept. Lookup "Midsize SUV"... you get Santa Fe and Palisade amongst others... Lookup "Compact SUV"... for Hyundai you get Tucson. The Santa Cruz isn't midsize anything, nor an SUV... it's a compact, and it's a truck. It's closest competition is the Ford Maverick. Maybe the guy who made the video actually should have bought an SUV... which the Santa Cruz is not.

I don't agree on the delay, I have 2023 Limited Edition Santa Cruz and in Sport mode, its so responsive. I have done this times and times over at stops. My 2023 Limited has 2 USB charging and AC vent in the rear. May be do a review with a Limited 2023 SC
The delay is a factor of the DCT. They operate like a manual. Takes a second for the clutch to engage. My C8 corvette has a similar feel. There have been programming improvements that allow for quicker response.
We had a Tucson with the DCT and it was garbage. Lots of issues and the delay with the turbo lag was unacceptable. Plus they actually did a recall on it and stopped putting it in the Tucson it was so bad. Garbage design. In a truck like vehicle like the Santa Cruz they Should have went with a normal 8 speed. I think the Ford Ranger is a better option for the money.
@Beammeupscotty-w5x The biggest mistake DCT owner do is treat them like an automatic, especially inching forward at a stop light. The car in front of you moves forward a foot, so you feel you have to move forward a foot. This causes clutch slippage, which is bad for the clutch. In manual vehicles some people would "ride the clutch" which is one foot on the clutch and the other on the gas. This also causes clutch slippage and would soon lead to a clutch needing a replacement. Replacing the clutch(s) on a DCT is a lot more expensive than a manual transmission, so it is a good habit to use the "Auto Hold" feature that most DCT vehicles have. After the vehicle comes to a stop you can take your foot off the brake and it keeps the vehicle braked (clutch disengaged) until you step on the gas.

Well I beg to differ I love my power ! back seat offer lots of storage whn seats are put into upright position. The jackfits snouggley to the floor no biggy just glad to have it! Plus you have 3 modes including sport. if you want to take off fast.! and the knob to turn volume up has a knobby feel so no taking your eyes off the road. My sis and I both over 60 both bought one same day. Love it !!! Oh yea fuel economy on the road 32 sure makes me smile more roade trips
I don’t need volume knob there is volume up and down on the steering wheel. I own one for 6 months now and when I’m driving I don’t have to look down to see. If i want increase fan or ac or anything, my hand just know where to go without looking down
I have the 2023 Night Edition Black on Black nicknamed the Dark Knight EL Camino! Coming from a Nissan Titan this truck is exactly how I expected it to be. Quick and comfortable for driving in the concrete Jungle!
Man this truck is not meant for extreme off road activity. First off it's not equipped with off road tires. The truck is not heavy enough to stay planted on the ground. It's more of a sticky situation type of thing that will offer you better performance in comparison to a regular car. Man the lack of brain activity is so crucial to understanding what you're buying.
Dude there is something wrong with you. One you can change the volume on your steering wheel. Put your sunglasses in your arm rest it’s deep enough. That one second delay will put it into race mode . I agree about no vents or usb plugs in the back
Have a 23 SEL for two months and 2500 miles. Love it no complaints. Comfortable, quiet and a great physical size for in town as well as the type of “work” I need a truck for.
The door in mine closes easily. It's possibly just a fit issue that wasnt caught in the factory by quality. I don't mind using the steering wheel to turn the volume up or down. I don't use the touch button.
All but the last one seem fairly minimal. I have no issues with ANY of the first 9 things. As for offroading, I didn't buy it for that anyway so even the last issue isn't an issue.
I have the limited trim and it’s definitely a nice ride. I use it as my work truck for errands and trips to homedepot. I prefer it over my Range Rover sometimes. I have roof racks and yes with the sunroof open it can be loud but that’s with any car with roof rails I’ve owned. When the sunroof is closed there is very limited sound coming in. As far as the power it definitely gets up and goes when I need it to. The only thing I could say it’s lacking for a top trim is parking sensors. I just make sure I turn the surround view cams on when I park. I did have some mechanical issues that fixed themself. I was driving from Louisiana to South Carolina and I lost a lot of power with the engine light flashing. I just gave it more power high rpm until it started driving normal again. I didn’t stop because i was scared it would die 🤞 The dealer did find the code that was thrown that went Away. Ended up needing new injectors. I enjoy the lane centering feature probably the most. Other cool features are the cooled seats( that actually work), ambient lighting colors, retractable locking bed cover, led headlights are very bright for night driving, the app is very convenient and love the reminders if I forget to lock it, what You get for 40k is definitely a great value.
My 2023 Limited does not have a delay in throttle response. You may want to check the drive mode. It sounds like you're in Snow mode. All of my doors shut easily. The rear passenger area on my Limited has AC vents and two USB ports in the back of the center console. As for USB-C, you can always add a small adapter. When you're talking about roof bars, I'm assuming that you mean the crossbars that connect to the roof rails. Well, if you're going to be carrying things on your roof, you aren't going to be open the sunroof. You do realize that there is also a volume control on the steering wheel, right? All you need to do is hold up or down. You don't have to keep pressing the button. The one on the display is for the passenger to use. Also, you can just hold your finger there until you get the level you want. You don't have to keep hitting the button. It is not an off-road vehicle. It is an AWD vehicle. It will handle much better in snow and rain than a 4WD. So, I haven't seen your video regarding what you love about the Santa Cruz, but I just don't think you understand the vehicle.
This guy has obviously spent very little time in "His brand new 2023 SC". The lack of a sunglasses compartment is an issue that I brought up to the salesman but hardly a deal breaker. Seems like the narrator has a heavy bias towards Ford. I have had a 2022 for almost 2 years. I still love it and get compliments/questions about it on the regular.
I feel like the door thing is a non issue . My ten year old Xterra is like that because it has chunkier molding on the bottom of the doors to keep it water tight. I’ve always had to muscle the door shut . It’s kinda knitpicking .
This was annoying me for the first month and a half, now my door and the rear passenger door are closing properly (Daddy daycare drop off!). I also find if the fan is on high and recirculation is enabled, the pressure makes it harder to close as well.
no delay with my throttle. ease a little slower into it and go eat some mustangs. i do agree no sunglass storage is a must. i musst say even a dude with a full size 4x4 might not approach that rutt the same way you did.
I have a 2023 Sel, with the natural Asperated engine NO delays at all on acceleration this is why I didn't want a turbo or the DCT trans, they do not have it perfected. I have the smaller screen with a volume knob and tuner nob. I really love mine ,trouble free and not as much bells but a whole lot less annoying features. Oh and traditional 8 speed automatic. Cheers.
The thing has plenty of zing in smart mode. I don't understand a negative response to the 2.5 turbo. It gets 20 plus miles per gallon. I got 10 to 12 miles per gallon out of my truck.
Volume knobs are better, but the SC has a physical switch on the steering wheel so its no big deal. I have a 22 golf r that even has touch buttons on the steering wheels which is crazy
I think the whole volume knob is nitpicking only time I use mine is to turn the radio off and on most of the time I’m using the steering wheel controls
Some observations from someone with the sister vehicle of the Santa Cruz, I own the 2023 Tucson Hybrid SEL, which has the same infotainment screen and features. 1) I prefer volume knobs over buttons... having said that... there is a volume rocker on the steering wheel, and pressing it doubles as a mute. 2) Chimes. Most if not all of them can be turned off. 3) DCT... you seem to know it's history... more on this at the end 4) Storage and interior configuration... more on this at the end 5) Problems with off-road, and "Lifted"... you put bigger rims/tires than factory... you know this is going to completely dork the AWD which computes for factory rims/tires, right? Conclusion... most of the problems and issues you have with this vehicle you could have easily spotted by.... I dunno... watching a video review, reading a sales pamphlet, actually looking at it at the dealership... test driving it. There is NOTHING in this video you complained about that you couldn't have noticed BEFORE you bought the car with just a tiny weenie amount of effort and research on your part... aside from the AWD performance after completely changing out the rims and tires. Did you research this car AT ALL? Or did you just see a 30 second commercial on TV for it and mailed a check to your local dealership sight unseen? If I'm spending $40,000 dollars or something, I'm damn sure going to do my research BEFORE I plump down the cash... it literally seems like you did ZERO research... none, nada, zip... you're complaining about tons of things you should have known BEFORE you bought it. I literally did months of research before I chose my 2023 Tucson Hybrid... I knew more about the Tucson than the sales staff did. Yeah, I'm not crazy about the lack of a volume knob, but I knew about it before I bought it and I also knew about the volume rocker on the steering wheel which I always use. I LOVE my Tucson Hybrid... wouldn't trade it for the world... but do your research BEFORE you buy a car... watching your video it seems you mailed in a check and had no clue what you were buying.
I've had my Santa Cruz for approximately 9 months and have had nothing but issues. There are too many to name at this point. This new car has sat more than I've used it. Is there a refund issue with this car? I'm almost afraid to put this car on the highway.
I have had none of the problems you have had. I Love the transmission. I can PADDLE shift or Stick Shift. With the K&N filter and rear Muffler off. 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds. Hp went from 281 to 297 hp and 325 torque. Faster than my 68 Boss 351 Torrino GT. I am amazed. Very much fun.
It could have been though. It’s got all the main ingredients, just not the software. In the end, the maverick crushes it, as evidenced by the sales numbers. I’d trade it but the sc lost $22,000 in value. Make that the 11th thing.
Wow! I don’t have any of those issues with my 2022 premium. Smooth instant acceleration, doors close normally, i use radio volume control on the steering column. I haven’t done any off road so can’t comment.
I have a 2022 Santa Cruz. Didn’t like the few recalls, although they ended up effecting me. But, still like the truck. Sounds like you bought the wrong vehicle. Btw, I moved the front crossbar back about 10 inches. Helps with the noise.
And, and, and my mommy didn’t put butter on my pancakes. So, you know the tires are way too round, so it rolls, like forever you know. I just hate things like that. Yesterday when I rolled the window down, wind came inside the car and messed my hair up. I got out of the Vehicle during a rain storm and my hair got wet.
The door thing is a Hyundai quirk. I had that issue on a 2020 Elantra and traded into a 2022 Santa Cruz and still have the same problem where the doors don’t completely close on the first shut.
Some of the issues are pretty easy to adapt to, mute and volume on the steering wheel can be used for one, and the doors just need a little more closing force, really very nit-picky (IMO). If these bother you so much, maybe the purchase wasn't a good one for you or you need to spend more time with your initial evaluation?
No sunglass holder? OMG the humanity! It's called turbo lag. Completely agree with the lack of the volume knob and 4 wheel drive issues. Some really good points.
I suspect you are aware you just have to hold the volume up/down rather than tapping it? And of course you can just use the steering wheel option. Sunglass holders are being phased out. Just put them in your center armrest- which they make inserts for. Works fine. I have the Tucson.
I have a 2024 Limited, the doors close perfectly, no lag at takeoffs, the DCT shifts perfectly, no shutter, aftermarket roof racks are un noticeable, or anyother of the flaws like that. And I can adjust all of the alarms and notifications in the setup menu. I didn't buy it to beat it up off road so that's not an issue.
Strange, my 2023 sel has volume button and tuning button as well, my doors close perfectly, and and no throttle delay, I did not purchase the premium, so no turbo issues
COOL! A reviewer who also talk about reliability and durability of the engine and transmission. That's what I like. I don't care about gadgets or gas milage. A car to me is an investment and I hold on to my investments long term. 10 year sis a nice warranty, buy a car should just be breaking in at 100k. If the tranny or engine start to fail at 100k then there are huge repair bills in the works--especially if it's a hybrid. I'm always amazed at teh people I know who complain about not having enough money but then buy or lease a new car every 3 to 5 years and always, always, have car payment. Car companies that make cheap cars must love these people. I swear that some cars are intentionally made to last just past the warranty. but if people would buy something intended and made to last then, voila, you've got extra money in your pocket when the car is paid off. Funny how that works. I'll watch more of your videos to see if you continue to also talk about reliability and durability.
Yeah my camry is kinda the same when i first bought it. I cleared the memory of the transmission and drove it faster when taking off. Now its more responsive. Still isnt as responsive as i want when i really stomp on it. My advice would be to clear the transmission memory and drive it faster on take off for like 50 miles maybe and then your transmission will be more responsive
i'm sorry but item 2 looks like its a weather stripping issue, item 10? It not an off road truck i wouldnt expect it to be any better than a tucson. Thats not its intended use. it seems most things are minor. I get your complaints about the stereo, thats why i got an SEL, also didnt want sunroof or turbo. Originally was going to get a maverick lariat 2.0 litre but with dealers trying to add $10k to price the simply arent worth it. thanks for your impressions, i wonder if the cvt was hurting the offroad performance

We could make a list "10 things I hate about HRG"
- You lifted it? Or just put larger wheels/tires on it? Either way you modified the vehicles dimensions thus taking it out of factory parameters, and warranty.
- Close your door firmly, not with a love tap
- Storage is provided in the door panel, even for a water bottle. "Side of center console storage" is wasted space.
- A sunglasses holder? Really? The way you were bouncing around like the Santa Cruz is a rock crawler? Use the deep well center console (it's great for keeping your 4 pairs of glasses from piling up on the floor given the pic you provided)
- Rear armrest?
Amen
Facts
Had my 2022 Santa cruz 2 years and love it ....super fun to drive and quick ..u can pick apart any car with complaints as most folks do over time..don't forget Ford leads on recalls..as GM Honda and Toyota ..all as well ..I give the Santa cruz 10 stars
I’m super happy with the lower base model. No issues at all. No turbo probs and noisey roof racks.
I have a 2022 SEL Premium and I have no complaints except for the price I paid for it, especially the dealer mark up.
Bruh you need to walk away at any sign of dealer markup...
Put a 4 speed in it and a regular 4 cylinder or hybrid engine, no turbo and i will buy it.
I own a limited and I use the steering wheel volume button. Never use the button on the dash
The throttle response problem probably has something to do with the turbo, like turbo lag.
Also the cab is very airtight so that's why the doors have to be pushed pretty hard to be closed
If it’s so air tight then why is it so noisy. Crap is what crap sells.

Thank you for this video it helps me a lot
I don't agree on the delay, I have 2023 Limited Edition Santa Cruz and in Sport mode, its so responsive. I have done this times and times over at stops. My 2023 Limited has 2 USB charging and AC vent in the rear. May be do a review with a Limited 2023 SC
Mine also none of the problems this guy had. Maybe you should have not lifted it
I am going to cancel my order on my 2024 Santa Cruz. Your videos where a lot of help.
The delay is a factor of the DCT. They operate like a manual. Takes a second for the clutch to engage. My C8 corvette has a similar feel. There have been programming improvements that allow for quicker response.
I have a Santa Cruz and it’s peppy. No delay. This guy is having problems with issues that are customizable and a lot of them are avoidable.
@@Beammeupscotty-w5x Traded my 2020 Ford Ranger for a 2023 Santa Cruz Limited , I've never looked back. Had 3 recall's with the Ranger .
My doors close fine. No throttle delay. No wind noise. I don't mind the "no knob" feature. If I were you, I'd just get rid of it.
I REALLY DON'T GET IT?? WHY DID YOU BUY THE TRUCK?? I MEAN COME ON MAN YOU DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING NICE ABOUT THIS VEHICLE AT ALL!! AGAIN WHY DID YOU BUY THIS CAR/TRUCK!? ACTUALLY I LOVE A LOT OF THINGS ABOUT MY NIGHT VERSION SANTA CRUZ!!!! IT'S BY NO MEANS THE PERFECT VEHICLE BUT IT FITS MY NEEDS PERFECTLY!!!!
WISH YOU WELL IN YOUR ADVENTURES WITH YOUR SANTA CRUZ, I'M ENJOYING MINE.......
Also there's no air vents or USB ports in the back seat because you have an SEL I think, my dad has a limited and there two USB ports and two vents in the backseat
Isn’t there volume controls on the steering wheel? If so what’s the big deal.
Also for short people and the 8 way seat poition you will be very comfortable. I let it back and down before exiting so i am close to the ground no hurting my knees.
I think the purpose of the chimes is to be annoying so you notice them.
I have the same model and dont have any of the problems you are having, radio can be turnded up or down or muted via button on stering whee
Dude there is something wrong with you. One you can change the volume on your steering wheel. Put your sunglasses in your arm rest it’s deep enough. That one second delay will put it into race mode . I agree about no vents or usb plugs in the back
And also you can turn off some of the chimes, like the goodbye when you turn off the car, in the settings
Santa cruz is not a truck It's a cross over with a bed in the back
I have the limited trim and it’s definitely a nice ride.
I didn’t stop because i was scared it would die 🤞
The dealer did find the code that was thrown that went Away.
I suggest you read the user manual..... I have a 23 Santa Cruz SEL Premium. No issues and is very pleasant to drive on any road conditions.
I think the truck is beautiful i was thinking if getting one but I was wondering you have just over a 1,000 mi on it and the check engine is on.
The charcoal canister and the wire under it was damaged because of some off-roading. We got it fixed and made a skid plate to protect it.
@@hrg_tv Ok thanks .
LOVE MY SEL Sport mode makes it more responsive but I always drive in normal mode
Use the steering wheel to control volume. Your passenger can see the volume button.
Has anyone had an issue with the headlights not working? Mine just stopped. Doesn't work on Auto, On, or turn on when the wipers kick on....any ideas?
Was the hesitation acceleration only with the turbo models?
Cheers.
same here bro. Do not regret going for the SEL activity for one minute
Cheaper too!
I have a 22 premium with 16k I had a recall but after that this little truck is amazing !
I have a 2022. How about no garage door opener function? It has so many other tech features but left that out.
My 2024 model has the built in door opener
Where did you get the lift kit and tires and rims?
Nothing about the check engine light?
Can't the radio volume be changed via a steering wheel control?
The thing has plenty of zing in smart mode. I don't understand a negative response to the 2.5 turbo. It gets 20 plus miles per gallon. I got 10 to 12 miles per gallon out of my truck.
You don't have radio controls on the steering wheel? My 2020 Tuscon does.
A lot of really good points.
Does yours not have the rear locking diff? Maybe thats a 2024 thing. Mine has it.
3) DCT... you seem to know it's history... more on this at the end
4) Storage and interior configuration... more on this at the end
5) Problems with off-road, and "Lifted"... you put bigger rims/tires than factory... you know this is going to completely dork the AWD which computes for factory rims/tires, right?
Not a good idea to ignore the engine light on
Why do you need a type C charger when you have a wireless charger?
Do you have double clutch engine?
It's not an off road vehicle! You def should have done alot more research before buying! Who's at fault???
It could have been though. It’s got all the main ingredients, just not the software. In the end, the maverick crushes it, as evidenced by the sales numbers. I’d trade it but the sc lost $22,000 in value. Make that the 11th thing.
Wow! I don’t have any of those issues with my 2022 premium. Smooth instant acceleration, doors close normally, i use radio volume control on the steering column. I haven’t done any off road so can’t comment.
I apologize but why did you buy 40k junk? Didn't you do some research?Reviews? for 40k you had many choices.
Your check engine light was on???
I hate that the radio comes on when I do not turn it on I have a 2023
I have a 2022 and my gas cap won’t open at times is anyone else having this problem
Sunglasses clip for visors.. all these problems are things could see PRIOR to buying
Did you REALLY think that opening up the sunroof would be quiet ?
My issue is the rotors warping. Already had in 2xs, 1st at 5k miles, then 8k. Starting again...
Looks like the base model, it's probably beeping cuz the check engine light is on lol
I had that issue on a 2020 Elantra and traded into a 2022 Santa Cruz and still have the same problem where the doors don’t completely close on the first shut.
hold the volume bottom. it continues whilst holding finger down. also a mute button on steering wheel.
Still, I would buy Santa Cruz over any Ford trucks..
CEL?
You have a toggle for volume on you steering wheel.
My grandmother bought one last week. She also has plans to lift it in the near future. Maybe 37”s 😂
4:51 only on the steering wheel. Still want my knob. Glad I have my BS ;-). With a great lift!
Strange, my 2023 sel has volume button and tuning button as well, my doors close perfectly, and and no throttle delay, I did not purchase the premium, so no turbo issues
I have the sel with 8 speed automatic and I am happy with it.
I got mine to sel trim but I don’t have any problem
i'm sorry but item 2 looks like its a weather stripping issue, item 10? It not an off road truck i wouldnt expect it to be any better than a tucson. Thats not its intended use. it seems most things are minor. I get your complaints about the stereo, thats why i got an SEL, also didnt want sunroof or turbo. Originally was going to get a maverick lariat 2.0 litre but with dealers trying to add $10k to price the simply arent worth it. thanks for your impressions, i wonder if the cvt was hurting the offroad performance
I have a 2023 sel activity package and I love everything except the power. It fits the mold for everything I want in a car except power. Which if I bought the model up with the turbo I'm sure that would fix the issue lol. But I do know what you mean about the doors you gotta close them hard lol
My 2022 Santa Cruz Sel activity package had the same issue with the doors. This is why. The new seals on the door aren’t softened up yet. It took me about 2200 miles to break in many things. As for the power, I don’t have the turbo engine and my engine is quick at the red light but not a lot of power later. Good luck with your new truck. Give it time…🛻
ADJUST THE DOOR HOLY CRAP NO SUNGLASS STORAGE ? NO REAR ARM REST, TOO MANY CHIMES, WIND NOISE. I WOULD BUY A FORD with turbo
engine they are blowing up.Or the new RAM 6 month wait,or chevy 6 month wait. I take delvery of my SANTS CRUZE SE 25,700.00 truck next month
THANKS FOR THE WARNING.
welp.. you just talked me out of it. Thx. Spot on observations that really make a difference.
READ MY COMENT ABOUT WHAT OTHER S ARE AVAILABLE
Don't listen to this guy, his observations are braindead. The SC's great and has about 1% of the issues he claims it does.
Take it out of eco mode and use normal mode, still @1/2 second lag. Sport mode should give you max launch.
Why is ur check engine light ON?
Probably something to do with his throttle delay
ya should have bought the Tucson awd hybrid instead better mileage too, stick a hitch on it and you can have all that storage as well as a full panoramic sunroof sel convenience pkg
