    Today I'm replacing the rear speakers in my 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE with a set of Kicker 6.75" drivers. I'll show you every step in the process to remove the door and install these much better speakers. This is an easy process and you only need a Phillips screwdriver and a panel-removal tool. The factory original speakers are absolute garbage, and I'll show you why!
    The links above are Amazon Associate affiliated which means that without costing you a dime, I get a few dimes when you use these links.
    Thanks so much for the support!

    There is a small hole in bracket to run wire through to speaker so you don't pinch speaker wire to the door and you should put thin foam on bracket between door and speaker.

    FYI, interior panel, alway release from the bottom corners (least resistance) then sides upward...

      Yah definitely will be a huge improvement in low end when the rear speakers are on. Note that the head u it limits the low end going back there so you don’t get full range sound even with good speakers, but at least they won’t be distorted all the time with better h it’s installed.

    bruh! really great share!
    i have a 2021 camry. i noticed the same thing with my rear speakers. i have a spl meter. the rears play 6 dbs lower then front and the rear doest have a tweeter. thats why they sound like that. that speaker you installed should make a great difference! kicker has some "key" amps that will make those speakers pop! they have a dsp built it to really blend the music. they are easy on the electical system.
    again great share!

      Thanks so much Larry! I've considered the amp idea. I'd also like to get a compact Sub in there as well, perhaps under the front seats. Have you done that before?

    • @mafosa8519
      @mafosa8519 3 года назад +1

      @@DansWay I have a 10” kicker box in the trunk.
      Powered by a kicker “key” mono amp.
      I pulled the signal from the front fronts.
      Crutchfied sold me a adaptor to the tweeter harness that came with a jumper wire.
      I cut the jumper and used one of the ends for the sub signals. No oem splicing.
      Much better now. Sub really completes the experience.

      @@mafosa8519 thanks so much for the info. I'll definitely keep this info for later. Do you have a way to adjust the sub volume? I find it annoying that some content is mixed to where you can't really enjoy it because of low-end balance issues.

    • @mafosa8519
      @mafosa8519 3 года назад

      @@DansWay on that kicker amp there two ways to adjust the bass output.
      1. Add a bass control into your dash.
      2. On the unit itself there a “subsonic” knob that can be adjusted.
      It’s really a nice amp for the money you pay.

    Great video, Dan. I just purchased a 2020 Highlander and despite not even having listened to the factory (non JBL) system, I suspect I'll be making some changes. My biggest concern is that the head unit will alter the frequency response as you turn up the volume. My Subaru does this and even with an external amp on the speakers, it sounds like absolute garbage. In your case, it looks like your head unit is pumping out a flat, unaltered frequency response but your speakers are just crapy and can't handle it ( a good problem to have). I'm looking forward to digging in to the 2020 and making some videos. Thanks for posting!
    Cheers

    if you have 2019 you need to take the two hidden screws out under the stationary door handle ( not the one you use to open the door ), remove the plastic cover n the center of the handle and take out the top and bottom screw, please don't ask me how I figured this out

    In the replacement speaker do you have better bass?

    • @DansWay
      @DansWay  5 лет назад +1

      Loop Hole, actually this speaker has a very stiff surround so it takes a lot of power to drive it. They are also only 6.75” speakers so they don’t have a ton to offer. An external amp would likely make them drive harder. What has changed as is the quality of the low end. Listen with headphones and you can hear that the bass is now tight and controlled, but not loud at all. The front speakers are providing most of the low end. There is a sub in my future...

    • @DansWay
      @DansWay  4 года назад

      karanvir singh absolutely it was so much better after the change out. The factory head amp seems to eliminate a lot of the low end on the back speakers as well so don’t expect thumping from any rear speakers without an external amp.

  • @Fluid36
    @Fluid36 4 года назад

    No point upgrading rear speakers, most top guys don't bother as rear speakers are no use in car audio, only used for rear fill.
