I replaced all of my old, crappy, plastic gas cans with Eagle, heavy duty, plastic Gas Cans. They have a built-in vent that works really well. And these Eagle cans will last forever! But I do like these metal vent valves.
Push the neck in. Hold it. You will see a rubber 'O' ring on the flat end. Remove it. Then the spring loaded restrictor comes right out. I did this and installed one the the NICE metal vent caps. Gas pours out so fast the the truck filler cannot take it that fast! I also added a hose to the nozzle so I am not standing there holding a 40 pound can of fuel. I set the can on the bed rail, inset the tube into the filler neck, tip the can, and it fills quickly. VERY quickly. One of the big problems with gas cans and side filling vehicles is that the filler nozzles are far too short and not flexible. No fun spilling gas while trying to refuel.
While that vent does look nice and probably fixes the hassle of holding the gas can for extended periods while filling. I found a shaker siphon hose works effectively. and effortless. After i installed the yellow vent caps on all my gas cans(didn't need them)😳
There are some that have a screw in cap, no plastic cap to break. Every plastic vent cap I’ve tried have broken due to sun degradation or cold. Maybe these are better?
why not just use a valve from a car rim? First put on a washer so that the valve sits tightly on the plastic, then shrink a long shrink tube onto the valve and insert it through the filler opening and fumble it through the drilled hole, or put the valve on a wire and fumble it into the hole and then pull it into the canister with a valve puller. Unscrew the valve and screw on the valve protection cap - tight and works.... Is furthermore still movable if one strikes somewhere or hooks. That never rips out of the canister. I have already used a screw-in metal valve and a normal valve. The metal valve with the lock nut inside is a pain to screw in place.
It's interesting you mentioned this. I did a video a while back on metal gas cans and someone mentioned this! I tried it using a regular valve stem, but by the end of the summer the rubber got all soft and squishy. Maybe the ethanol in the fuel reacted with the rubber? The rubber on these feel more like silicone, I'm betting something designed to handle the fuel.
Oddly I did not, it all came out the top while drilling. I really figured I was going to have to rinse the can out, but it was clean as a whistle inside.
I already installed a plastic cap as you show at the beginning of the video in the blue can. Will the hole that I already drilled for that Be OK to use for this product? The one that I installed has started to leak and if I could simply remove that cap and screw this new product in, that would be great!
I got a flexible spout with a hose bender, now just need a ducky instead of the yellow one. Wonder if duck will work on some of those wanna be Jerry cans?
step one. buy a quality gas can intended to store flammable liquids. step two. have arm strength and maintain a controlled contraction for 30 seconds. step three... yeah that's about it 🤷🏾 I can handle a little arm burn if it means my neighbours kids don't live in persistent heat waves.

California must be SEETHING.

Absolutely fantastic mods! Love the vents!!! 😃👍
Nice work! I'd do that if I had one of those obnoxious cans, but I like the "Surecan" and don't have to mess with it.
Very good design. Looks like it’ll outlast the plastic gas cans!
I like it! Any way to make these containers easier to use is a HUGE improvement - in efficiency AND safety! 😁
When you pour out gas does the gas leak from the vent?
You can also remove the spring inside the spout so you don't have to press down the lever to poor the gas out.

Fantastic! Super useful!

@@1D10CRACY that little vent cap is a rubber compound? That should be much better.
Now we just need to fix the requirement to collapse the spout
Don't tell anyone, but they often make water spouts that may fit on gas cans. Sometimes even from the same manufacturer
I use water can replacement fittings, til my cans go bad.😀
Did you find plastic pieces in the gas can from the drilling process that might plug up in the motor’s gas line
?
Oddly I did not, it all came out the top while drilling. I really figured I was going to have to rinse the can out, but it was clean as a whistle inside.
Very helpful video! I can't stand the new gas can setups they have.

great info, screw the bs regulations
Now…if they could just make a spout lid that doesn’t get lost and that actually works
The EPA hates him.
Think of all the gas that will evaporate and basically do nothing at all. The horror
Not in stock at Amazon & they don't know when or if it will be in stock.
Looks like they changed the link. amzn.to/3xirhHi

God I hate all new gas cans!
I couldn't agree with you any more! It's a shame really!
Or for some reason a chipmunk chews up the yellow vent cap…. Nice that this is metal
