2024 Shop Tour

- 2024 is here! Starting off this year with a deep dive shop tour. Many assume that my shop is complete because it’s clean and things aren’t left out. As you’ll see in this deep dive, there’s still a lot of work to be done! Most of what needs to be done is organizational things. The only way to truly figure out where you need things is through working projects and making notes along the way. It’s easy to give something a home, it’s much more difficult to give something a home so that it works into your work flow and improves your shop proficiency. Admittedly, my shop is at the stage where this is a slower process as I’m getting down to less frequently used tools and tools that just need to be liquidated from my shop. The journey continues!

nice shop. very organized and clean
Thank you!
You're an inspiration!
Thanks!
Always a great inspiration! I am in the middle of rehabbing my shop and your video renews my enthusiasm to get it done.
That's awesome! Feel free to shout if there's anything I can help with.
wow Kev! what a well organized and equipped shop and narrated perfectly!
Thank you!
Great tour. OH to have a shop so clean. Almost like you never do any work in it. But I know better. Good job.
Thanks! It'll get dirty again today..
Great video, Kev~! Excellent organization. I always have mixed feelings about watching these type of videos because they make me realize what a trainwreck my own shop is. Gotta get my shop org in action. Thanks for sharing~!
We're all at different stages in this long journey.. I'm a lot of years into my organization. My hope is that posting my learnings helps people get there a little more quickly than I did.
Amazing shop Kev!!! Layout is perfect!! Your shop is almost a blueprint. Of what I wanted my shop to be. When I first started woodworking in 2020. I built a roubo style WB with the benchcrafted leg vise. Im about to install that HNT Gordon Tailvise into it. Just finished my mitersaw station with a ton of drawers. my first "big" project was my 4x8 torsion box outfeed/assembly table with a lot of drawers. my space is just 20x20 but having a lot of drawers and flat surfaces has done wonders for the size constraints IMO
Thank you! Being the third shop, I had a much better idea of what I wanted this time!
Great tour Kev, always a pleasure to see your shop!
Thank you!
A well narrated video and a truly inspiring shop. It’s nice to see the details such as the drawer organization. I’m slowly building out a shop and use your shop a lot for planning my layout and a goal to work towards. Thanks for showing us your shop!
That's awesome, thanks!
Nice Tour Kev - keep the video's coming...
Thank you!
really nice workshop, with plenty of room for growth! Happy New Year!
Thank you, happy new year to you and yours as well!
Looking very nice. I'm going through a shop redo at the moment.got a new table saw and some how it snowballed from there.
Hope you got a few things from the video to help you out!
Hi Kev, thanks for all your videos. I’m a massive fan here in Australia. Could you please give me the links you used for the Carter guides for your 18BX. I have the same bandsaw and would like to upgrade the ceramics… cheers Gary
Thanks so much! The Carter guides are a bit expensive but, super nice.. Here's the link you asked for.. carterproducts.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=+laguna+18bx+guides
Love the tour and always your content. One thing I have noticed though over the last several videos is a very noticeable echo or reverberating sound. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this before. Thanks again for the informative content.
Thanks.. The next video out will be even worse as I switched mics to try and correct. After that, they'll get much better.
I have the exact same band saw. Going to buy the new guides that you recommended. I did notice that you kept the saw tensioned. Have you ever had any issues with blades because of that? I put a reminder clip on the blade when I lower it.
I know I should let the tension off but, I've just never had an issue with it.
For some reason I had no sound on the video. I checked some of your other videos and they had sound.
Thanks.. That's something on RUclips's end. I'm making some changes in the next few videos to see if there's anything I can do on my end to prevent this from happening to others..
@@KevsWoodworks Others were hearing it so it is probably RUclips. I can't wait until I get rich enough to buy them and straighten out their ways.
@@andrewpinson1268 I am doing some things on my end to see if I can help..
No sound for me either.
@@Mike-dn4ju Thanks..
What size is your shop? It's amazing and thanks for sharing!
Thanks! The building is 30 x 60. My shop is 1k sq ft and my wife's quilting room is the rest.
@@KevsWoodworks nice
Great video but the audio is no good. It was very light and distorted.
Thanks.. That's an issue on RUclips's end but, I'm trying to do some things on my end to help. Most people can hear the audio..
what is the clock on the wall that you are using?
Here's an Amazon link to the clock.. I should note that it does lose time and have to be reset once or twice a year.. www.amazon.com/AcuRite-Digital-Indoor-Temperature-Fold-Out/dp/B019PJV3N4?pd_rd_w=OnEd8&content-id=amzn1.sym.928be83d-9abb-4025-bc6e-e0aed5aed3c9&pf_rd_p=928be83d-9abb-4025-bc6e-e0aed5aed3c9&pf_rd_r=MKBEAD8MDNKPZ6FS1Z2P&pd_rd_wg=f6Mz0&pd_rd_r=28a893b8-98a0-4fc5-ac2d-3400d6f34a7a&pd_rd_i=B019PJV3N4&ref_=pd_basp_d_rpt_ba_s_2_i&th=1
thank you. not too comfortable to hear with a name like AcuRite.
@@charlieleidholdt7785 My thoughts as well but, wanted to let you know ..
What size is the shop ?
Roughly 1k sq ft.. Approximately 30 x 35..
thank, day dreaming my forever shop and based on how much space I have now 1k sqft seems to be about the size I want. Looking at your shop confirms I would be happy with that much without it being too ridiculous @@KevsWoodworks
@@dominicdiclemente8877 You might want more if you're planning on CNC as well.. Good luck!
@@KevsWoodworks not at all interested in cnc, I like my projects to take forever. But I would love some space for a metal mill and lathe which need to be isolated from saw dust.
