Any Member of the Commenwealth can apply to join HM forces. That means you can get men from Bermuda all the way to Fiji serving in almost any regiment in the British army. There are a few hoops to jump through paperwork wise. Theres a great video of a Fiji Sgt sitting down in front of the queen during inspection, only 2 people who knew what was happening was the Sgt and the Queen.
My father in-law was a Argyll. He was a professional soldier and joined when he was fairly young. He was part of the 51st Highland division sacrificed at St Valery. Later he served with "Mad Mitch" in Aden. He maintained his fitness and dignity to the day he died and he was a true gentleman. William "Bill" Sword always remembered just like the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders .
My son served in the Canadian regiment of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders from Hamilton,Ontario Canada. On Holidays many years ago we were visiting Stirling Castle, there was pictures of the Hamilton Regiment....made me realize just how impressive ALL these young men are world wide
It was an honour & pleasure to have the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders garrisoned in Canterbury Kent . The only Scottish Regiment to be granted the freedom of a walled English City . It was a sad day for the City when they were reposted & Howe barracks stood down . God bless them all & thankyou for your service.
Another fine regiment thrown on the scrapheap. As a teenager I remember them under "Mad" Mitch retaking Crater with the pipes leading, they don't make them like that anymore.

Just found out I have mainly Scottish heritage. Went my whole life thinking I was mostly German/Austrian. No one ever mentioned Scot blood. Many ancestors from Argyll. Does that explain why the song of bagpipes always brought me to tears?
I agree, but the army at the time was thought to be too big to sustain the costs involved for the mission that they were decided to take. It was no longer the army of the days of Singapore.
@@jamesreid6137 you, know that makes me reconsider how l phrased my comment. It does make me sad to see a Regiment die. But l much prefer it by the stroke of a pen in peace then by foreigners in battle somewhere. I was a soldier at one time and finished as a sailor. It gutted me to see my ship be decommissioned then torn to pieces for scrap. Much the same as these Argyll's and veterans surely did with their home too.
I love the ethnic diversity in these regiments. From the African continent to the South Pacific Islands and everything in between. No matter what your race is; we all bleed one colour - red.
I was there I was serving with Charlie Company 1st Battalion the Highland Light Infantry , we where stationed at Kantara at the time, we spent a year in those mountains , it was a bit rougher than Davlos where these games took place .
Several attampts were made to disband this Regiment starting in 1968. Only after merging all the Scottish Line Infantry Regiments into one were they easily able to disband it and reduce 5 scots to a company strenth unit.
I think what happened was that there was a strategic review of the Royal Army forces and it was decided a few of the older regiments had to expire and disband so the cheaper army would have less than optimal personnel but still achieve the mission of supporting NATO's western command and various international deployments. Unfortunately for those familiar with the army's history many of the lost names were iconic titles.

There's a "Black Watch" Regiment

In Cape Town there is a 'Scottish' regiment who are black and wear kilts. They are stationed at Cape Town castle, an old Dutch fort.
Most of these black soldiers are from Commonwealth countries.
@@DeeZeeKidd Yes, but the Black Watch has nothing to do with coloured soldiers.
A shameful political decision and a military disaster. My opinion
T Bone cameronians 1689 to 1968
Love the old boys marching with em, respect from this old Aussie digger
Which Battalion?
I like that the Regiment's veterans march with them.

You have to know I read your comment with a Scottish brogue 😃
Me too and at Redford and Kenya - Jockie Bain and Dave Osborne RLC - RIP
My Grandfather's Regiment! Andrew Meacham Rankin fought the Boers in his kilt at the battle of Magersfontein! EVER LOVED
Hope the Boers won
Britain's most disgraceful war
I’m English but with a Scottish name and I will always respect the Scot regiments
Love the ex Argylls marching so proudly.
My dad was an argyll.
So proud. 🇬🇧🏴🇬🇧

Great to see the Old Soldiers marching and best of all wearing the real Regimental badge and not the Crucified moose
My great uncle was in the A&SH in WW1. Missing in action. Named on the Menninger gate.
Keep your heads high Argylls, always proud of you.
From a kid out in Aden, '67.
My Dad was an Argyll. Posted in Palestine after WW2. I still have his kilt. Have some great old pics too
The Campbells are nae comin onny mair.
Men wearing Kilts carring guns. Does it get any better? I come from a wonderful line of good Scottish blood.
Remember their heroic stand at Singapore!
This footage is the culmination of glorious days

Yes.
AYE
Once a regiment has gone its gone
Sadly very true . My local regiment was "merged" over fifty years ago & has "merged" twice since.
Argyll & Bolton wanderers.. love em.
There is strength in tradition!
The thin red line
A pleasure to see!
Thank you for what you do!
I am so proud to see African-Scotsmen marching along, if I were there, I’d give a huge shout-out!
Makes you proud to be BRITISH XX
What is the cost to a country of limitless inspiration, once it is gone?

The actual marching starts at 2.17. You're welcome! 🙋♀️
Fantastic-looking bunch.
It makes me sad to see things Ike this. Regiments shouldn't die this way.
Killed off by foreigners. ?

such a finer regiment was ever bred by the British people. US Navy mourns.

Tough looking chaps. Wouldn't mess with them. The best in any nation are in the military.
Total respect for Scotland the pipes and the kilt and God help anyone who calls mine a skirt
I misread the title as "angerly march"
not a bad answer but unfortunately this was the last moment of one of the most fabled army units in the history of the UK.

Till about 4.3 minutes after independence.
There is nothing like the sound of hobnails on pavement. If they no longer use those, they still sound like it.
There goes the Taxpayers's pounds..
Socks? are they long shorts or short longs?
May a King stand before you.
