Dereck Lively is not human. A rookie should not be playing at this level. The Mavs struck gold with their lottery pick. The forced turnover against Ant on the possession before Luka’s game winner was incredible work.

Besides Luka (always #1 for MMFLs), DLive is my favorite Mavs by a long shot… since day one against the Spurs. Idk if it’s because we haven’t had a good center in forever, but the energy and IQ he brings is TOP tier

  • @goose7732

I think most can agree that tanking for D-Live was the best decision we could’ve made last year . The kid has a bright future . so what we didn’t make the playoffs the team wasn’t up to par and couldn’t play a lick of defense. Being patient on this decision really payed off for the Mavs :)

I am so hyped man... its unbelivable! This team is just special!
Hardy/Green did a hell of a job today. They started the run in the 3rd that brought us back into the game. Then our 2 Bigs... I mean what more can anyone ask of them? 30 freaking points on 16 shots. Damn. DJJ/PJ didnt shoot well, but what they did on defense was remarkable. The did hold KAT/Ant to 9/33 from the field and gave everything they had on that end. And of course there are Kyrie and Luka... one brought us completely back to start the 4th, the other one closed the game with an alltime clutch 3!
Damn I couldnt be more happy. This team is just so special! I can not belive how clutch this roster is and how hard they fight. 10 down, 18 down, doesnt matter. They never give up!

Calm, poised, clever (remember when he ran into the hawks coach in 2011) as a player and that transferred over as a coach. WCF trip in 2022 first year on the job. Players respect and follow his lead. Phenomenal win. I've been tough on Doncic online for his conditioning leading to injuries over the years and carping at the refs--but "momma there goes that man!" What a game and what a guts three on the dpoy (dancing performer of the year?). Legendary and LOVED his reaction to gobert and the twolves faithful to go home (not a MN fan for a long while). That was a beautiful ending. Super happy for Doncic. The arrogant frenchman shouldn't have fricking clotheslined Luka earlier in the game. That totally warranted am ejection, at least a flagrant because it was cowardly and not even a play on the ball. It was a fake wrestling move. Doncic took that personally. Love him telling frenchman off and MN crowd. There has to be a ton of memes already out there.
Kyrie 13 points in the 4th which is great but man those free throws 🤦‍♂️ MN crowd is rather tame, I get these are the athletes going through it in person, but he's gotta make at least 2 of the 3 misses. But good to see Kyrie redeem himself on those threes.
Gafford five (5) fricking blocks! Big time. And that random falling layup in transition after the one rejection had me laughing on the floor. Hope PJW snaps out of his funk esp with ill-advised fouls. Lively has been phenomenal; what a mentor Tyson Chandler has been. Derrick Jones hope he picks it up as well. I fully expect Edwards to start shooting 20-25 FGs a game from here in instead of 16 and 17, and drive a lot more. Dude is 22. Mavs defense will have to be prepared for his aggressiveness rest of the series.

Luka in his second season was better than Ant in the 4th, it was enough to look at the numbers, we can't be blinded by the media narrative or racism!...Luka entered the NBA as the most experienced/polished player in the history of basketball! He was robbed of the mvp trophy this year, so he has every chance to get the FMVP (no biased votes)like Jokic got in 2023..

This team has something so special! I became a Mavs fan since the Dirk era, and that feeling hasn't changed. I keep seeing over and over this ability to pick themselves up and somehow win, but besides the amazing talent they have, the vibe of this team is something I have never seen, and the reason I love the Mavs and forever will: THEY ARE A TEAM ON AND OFF THE COURT! These guys have a bond and a mental strength that's unmatched. I have seen many teams play and on paper they are "superior," super stars like Lebron, Ant, SGA and others destroy on the court, but the Mavs pick each other up, literally! and that starts from the top. It might seem ridiculous, but I love how Kidd picked up Derrick Jones from the floor after he scored, how Cuban is there, cheering with them, how Luka run to Kleber to hug him after he got that rebound that won us the game against the Clippers, or Lively cheering on Luka to go while still on the floor after getting that ball last night, you could see that! How Kyrie went to Luka and hugged him after sinking that three in the 4th quarter and they just look at each other and say: "Let's do this"...Like Kyrie said in that interview with TNT after winning game 1, the fact that they talk to each other, he called them "therapy sessions", Kyrie is like this Guru figure for them, and gives them the calm they need, always so serene, so respectful...they know each other, where they are on the court, what they're strengths are, they trust each other, win or lose, they laugh and joke with each other, it's just amazing to see, and no other team in the NBA has that!! and that's why I think they keep winning, everything they go through makes them stronger, and they're not even playing at 100%, they just have this ability to stay calm and mentally strong, correct mistakes and come back from behind, and of course they have these MONSTERS like Luka and Kyrie, c'mon! Cold blooded LUKA! and after that insane shot in the end, he immediately went and said, calm down guys, is not over, he snaps out and knows there are 3 secs to play still...wow!! Lively 10/10 this game, all of them contribute in such an awesome way, it's amazing to see. I think we can win it all, nothing's impossible!!

The 3 things nobody has mentioned are:
    1.) Jason Kidd coaching.
2.) Mavs starters only playing 39 minutes a game or less.
3.) the Mavs bench is killing the Timberwolves.
Dereck Lively, Dante Exum, Jaden Harden, THJ & Josh Green are collectively putting up 34 to 34 ppg while playing solid defense as a unit.
Also, the sheer size of the Timberwolves we supposed to be a plus but the Mavs make it is a problem cuz of Luka and Kyrie.
    Finally,
Jason Kidd is out-coaching his counterpart by playing his backups extensively. T-H-I-S allows his 2-headed monster [Luka & Kyrie] to be fresh in the 4th quarter.
The Timberwolve's starters are playing 43 to 46 minutes and it's showing. They basically have a 6 man rotation while the Mavs are throwing 10 men at them playing full court press and doubling ANT. Nobody seems to note that the Timberwolve's bigs have no paint presence, are not good shot blockers and like to shoot 3's instead of back to the goal moves.
    Conversely,
The Mav bigs score A-L-L of their points in the paint, block shots and make steals. So...the Mav starters are fresh in the 4th. The Timberwolves are tired and their bigs play like they're shooting guards. Their coach has a macho attitude and Jason Kidd is exploiting that Machismo.

Nickt Wright explained the stochastics behind : why you should take a game winning three if you're down two; after Mobley blocked Franz Wagners Layup in Game 5. If the probability to win the game is 50/50 and the shot you take is a 50% shot, you multiply the two shots, and get a 25% winning probability. If you take a 60% shot. The winning probability lies by 30%, a 70% shot 35% and a 80% shot, the probability is at 40%. Luka as a 40% 3point shooter in road Games in the playoffs has a higher probability to win the game with a 3pointer, than to win the game with a open Dereck Lively Dunk that leads to overtime. Therefore Nick Wright is absolutely right when he says, that he doesn't understands, how anyone could think, that a contested two pointer is the better choice in a two point game.

2-0 and without Maxi. I thought we would've really needed Maxi out there on KAT. But not only are the Mavs surviving that, they're surviving crazy 1st half haymakers with the Wolves 3 point shooting. Not only that but surviving PJ and DJJ in a bit of a slump to go 2-0.
I fully expect the Mavs to have just one of those nights where everyone is hitting.

The most underestimated aspect of Mavs this PO is their changing gears offense. They know if they would go 48 mins at full throttle, Luka would look like he did in 1st game against OKC and Kyrie would look like ANT does. Or even better comparison, they would look like the Mavs looked agains Warriors two years ago in WCF. Only best teams can control the pace of the games like they do. How humiliating that The Mavs did exactly to Minnesota what they did to Denver in round 2 by stealing the first 2 games on the road. But the way they did it was way more crushing. Luka didn’t even really hunt that 3, Minnesota said they assumed that Luka was going to go into pick and roll. They didn’t even consider forcing him off the line. That’s a coaching mistake.
