    This jackery is using lipo batteries, while the new jackery Explorer 1500 uses lithium iron phosphate batteries which are much better and have 3500 cycles instead of the 850 cycles of this unit. Anyone who purchases the unit you are reviewing is being screwed because the newer model is exactly the same price.

    Pretty good solar generator. The only thing I don't like about it is the price. It's a bit on the expensive side compared to the other generators.

    The wife and I are planning an out of state camping trip, and I'm looking into a reliable generator for about 3-5 days out in the bush. Would you say this is a good fit? Would just need it for charging phones, and probably cooking depending on how the wood at the site is.

    • @SpeirOutdoors
      @SpeirOutdoors  2 года назад +1

      I've used this for camping and power outages. It's perfect for charging phones and such. Cooking will run the battery down quickly but of you have the solar panels to recharge it, it should be good! I absolutely love mine. It runs all my camera equipment when I'm out in the woods camping and filming.

      @@MysticMonkeyMiracle it depends on your load. How many watts your appliance uses. One panel will charge slower but if you are using a low drain appliance u will be good

    When you were running a hot plate, did the unit itself get hot? I'm just curious how it handles the load. I get nervous with batteries powering big draws 😱 ...or, is it a solar-only unit?

      It has a built in cooling fan that kicks on and off when needed. I ran it from 100 to 0 to and it took just at 3 hours. It also ran a space heater for an hour and 45 minutes. But I've seen several guys use this to run small refrigerators for extended periods of time in conjunction with the solar panels. Of the 3 companies that sent me products to test this one has them all beat

Crazy what 1 100 watt solar pannel can do ! All these things I mentioned are being powered all day ! For the past 4 days ! Also, we have had little to no sun ! Can't wait for a day with sun 😂.

    • @SpeirOutdoors
      @SpeirOutdoors  2 года назад

      I used it for an air fryer and it drained quickly. But, what I have mainly used it for is to power my TV, satellite and internet during power outages and hurricanes. The power goes out constantly in south mississippi. I use it nearly daily for my outdoors videography to run my 4 lights and my computer as well as wifi hooked up into the woods so I can film live on youtube, tiktok and pinterest. I don't use this for very power hungry appliances

    Don't even think about powering your house with a solar generator. The Chinese made solar generators on today's market (and they're ALL Chinese made) are not only short lived and weak when compared to conventional off grid solar systems, they can also be dangerous. You'd be lucky to get even two years of service from these overpriced solar generators, especially when powering high inductance loads like full sized refrigerators, large power tools, portable AC units or large microwave ovens.
    The reason for this is that all these high frequency inverters lack a very critical component. That critical component is an iron core, copper wound output transformer. Without an output transformer to act as a buffer to absorb electrical surges provided by the “Flywheel Effect” inherent in the physical amount of a transformer’s iron, these surges and damaging reverse voltage spikes must be handled directly by the inverter’s MOSFET transistors, essential shortening their life.
    You might be able to start and run some high surge loads when these solar generators are new, but every time you fire up one of those inductive loads, you're shortening the life of the MOSFETs in your solar generator's inverter.
    Another major consideration with these high frequency, transformerless solar generators is safety. Most solar generators including this unit are not even UL certified for safety. All it takes is for the AC output monitoring circuitry to fail and one of the MOSFETs in the inverter's H-Bridge circuit to short to ground, and these units can dangerous, high voltage, high amperage DC current straight to your connected AC loads which will not only damage most AC appliances but can also set those AC appliances on fire.
    Another consideration that is never mentioned by youtube, solar generator salespeople, is that the vast majority of these solar generators are non-repairable. Even before the warranty runs out, most consumers will not be able to afford to ship these units back (most of these manufacturers don't have US based service centers) to the manufacturer in China and have them repair or replace them. And at a typical shop rate of $125 per hour here in the US, with no schematic and limited parts availability, it won't makes economic sense to even attempt to repair one of these units. Once the FETs have fried and have burned a good portion of the inverter's PCB, (And trust me, sooner rather than later, they will fry.) they basically become an expensive brick.
    A far better alternative is to invest less money and purchase a hybrid, low frequency, transformer based inverter charger and a few LFP battery and build your own "real solar generator". Low frequency transformer based solar generators last many years longer than these high frequency solar generators, and can easily power high surge loads without being damaged and without damaging your appliances. That's why the big name brand inverter manufacturers like Schneider Electric, Outback Power, Sigineer Power, Victron Energy and others, all use a low frequency topology in their offerings.
