- Afcons, in a joint venture with Strabag, has constructed the world's longest motorable tunnel 3,000 m above sea level. The Atal Tunnel will reduce the distance between Manali and Leh by 46km and shrink travel time by 4-5 hours. Situated in the Pir Panjal ranges, in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, the project was fraught with danger. Afcons salutes all engineers and workers who endangered their lives to make this epic tunnel possible.
In kerala a 3 km tunnel (kuthiran-thrissur) started tunneling 8-10 years ago and is still not completed! A small comparison.
S bro real regularly traffic have been that place still it not finished regular iam traveling to across tat it's taken four to five hours I think it's lazyness by both Kerala govt and it's central government(nitin gadakari ji) I really hope on minister of transport on past now I really ashamed of him

If it's possible, to connect Hadsar with Keylong, as aerial distance is just 75km, but other two routes via Pangi (Sanch pass) and Manali (Rohtang pass) are 350-375km longer, India will never get defeated in Northern State of Himachal and Ladakh UT.
If Hadsar get connected to Keylong with few kms of tunnels & bridges, Leh to Pathankot (already equipped with 4lane NH1 & broad gauge rail) distance will be shortened by 9-10hrs (275-300kms).
Due to Chamera Dams projects on Raavi river, existing roads till Bharmour are already widened. If the rail cum road project is built between Pathankot, Chamba, Bharmour, Hadsar and Keylong, it will bring
1. It will bring dead-end Chamba district, into middle of economic activity and boost Himachal & Ladakh economy significantly.
2. It will bring Leh very near to rest of India, more opportunity will come for Ladakhi & Himachalis locals.
3. The shorter Pathankot-Hadsar-Keylong rail link will complement Bilaspur-Manali-Keylong-Leh rail & road project in all weathers.

Sach pass crossing has to be built , it's horrific after bharmour, I visited killar from Chamba and it almost took the whole day in the journey also I don't think I would be able to go with family, there were so many nullahas enroute that we got stuck so many a times

You fool, this project was started back in regime of Congress, most of the work was done during that time. How BJP did anything? Project was already started, funds were decided, project companies were decided during congress. अटल रोहतांग टनल इंजीनियरिंग की एक अद्भुत मिसाल है,,, इतने दुर्गम व् ठंडे भौगोलिक परिस्थिति में और वो भी दुनिया की सबसे ऊँचाई में इतनी लंबी सुरँग का निर्माण करना अपने-आप में एक अद्धभुत और अविश्ववसनिय काम है....... सलाम है उन इंजीनियर्ज़,, और हज़ारों मज़दूरों को जिन्होंने इतने मुश्किल काम को अंजाम दिया...... यह सुरँग लद्दाख़ में सैन्य बल के लिए तो महत्वपूर्ण है ही,,, अपितु कुल्लू घाटी के उस पार एक (जनसंख्या के हिसाब से) छोटे से क़बाइली ज़िले लाहौल-स्पीति के लोगों के लिए भी अतिआवश्यक थी,, इस सुरँग के निर्माण से यहाँ के लोगों का बरसों पुराना सपना हकीकत में बदल जाएगा..... यहां के पुराने बुज़ुर्ग,, पुरुष और महिलाएं इस दुर्गम रोहतांग दर्रे से पैदल ही अपने भारी-भरकम सामानों, अपने छोटे-2 बच्चों और यहाँ तक कि अपने मवेशियों के साथ कुल्लू से लाहौल व् लाहौल से कुल्लू पैदल ही इस विषम दर्रे के आर-पार होते थे,,, और उन्हें इसमें 3-4 दिन लग जाते थे!!यहाँ के बुज़ुर्ग इस सुरँग को अपनी स्थानीय बोली में टंडेल बोलते थे...... मुझे उम्मीद है कि इंजीनियरिंग के इस अद्धभुत कारनामे को एक दिन अंतरराष्ट्रीय पट्टल पर अवश्य दिखाया जाएगा😍😍🙏🙏🙏

I went to Rohtang in 1973 on annual treks with my School, . At that time from Manali to Rohtang both the mule / jeepable road at the lower level and new motorable Bus/ Truck capable highway at upper part of mountains were operational .
The mule road was memorable .It was very arduous but considerably shorter that its Highway counterpart
The mule road had very low level , just above the streams ,bridges. These bridges were of wooden planks . We were told that during 1962 war Indian forces could go to Leh from Manali only through this Mule road .
Now , we have a Double Decker Atal Tunnel with one lower storey only for passage of animals including Mules

Can't wait for the tunnel to open and visit Lahaul in the winters, this tunnel will surely you expose the beauty of the Lahaul valley to the common folk, I hope the government ensures responsible tourism and does not let this turn into another Ladakh

Good job done but it took 11 years to complete.
Yes it's himalayn tunnel so.
Still fast considering the instability, 11 avalanche zones and 1 huge nala in middle pouring water into tunnel. WE had to use help of Austrian giant who are experts in Alps.
