  • In this video you'll get to see Project LJ's first test run at my local off road park. I always test my rigs here before I go to trails like Rubicon, Fordyce, etc. If I find issues at the park, it's easier to get the rig back home, fix it up, and have it ready for trouble free fun out on the trails. Today I was testing the Iron Rock Off Road 4" long arm suspension and belly skid, Gatekeeper Off-Road rock sliders and front bumper, and Goliath Off Road rear bumper. I'm very happy to say I ran into ZERO issues!! Everything worked perfectly!! I only ran into one obstacle Project ZJ was able to do that Project LJ wasn't. The LJ is just a little too long and low for that particular obstacle, but I don't think that'll be an issue out on the trails.

    Ryan, why did you go with the 4" IRO and a 1" body lift instead of their 6" lift? Just asking because I'm looking at the 6"lift on 35s for a lj no body lift. What is the performance on the road like? Youu might not have enough trail time on this yet but do you get much hop from the Jeep when trying to climb an obstacle? Thank you in advance

      Jeep is very stable on and off road, even with my sway bars removed. I originally wanted to do 6" with no body lift, but IRO recommended I go with 4". I later learned that if you want the belly to be flatter with the frame, it helps to lift the motor/trans up a bit, and that goes smoother with the body up a bit. It's a balancing act to get ground clearance, not smash your trans into the tub, and not have the fan hit the shroud. 4" and 1" ended up being the perfect combo for me and 35s, but I think 37s would work too. Honestly I think you'd be happy with 6" or 4", just depends how you want your setup to be as far as belly position, overall ride height, etc.

    Sweet new build. Didn’t know u sold the zj. It inspired my zj build. How are the Mastercraft mxts doing?

      Tires have been great on and off road so far. I do worry about cutting sidewalls though. Always been a fan of Goodyear MTR Kevlars. They did really well on the ZJ.

      Yep, was sad to see her go but luckily a local guy who is actually gonna take her on the trails got her.

    are you going to do the Ironrock OTK steering?

    • @ryan.vision
      @ryan.vision  4 года назад

      I'm going to do the same steering setup I had on the ZJ which was a TeraFlex WJ style knuckle with separate mounts for drag link and tie rod. Over the knuckle tie rod, DOM tubing, 7/8 heims, 3/4 hardware.

    What you needed to make it was more skinny pedal

      Believe me, I thought about it haha just didn't wanna be to hard on her the first time out. I lifted the front up just a bit to be level with the rear so I have a feeling she'll go over it now.

    Mahalo! Ryan, look Fantastic on those obstacles. Maybe 37’s will make that center skid clear. So Great to see the suspension working.

      Yeah, I'm thinking I'll stick with 4" suspension, but go to 37" tires and raise the belly skid up a bit more. I think I have enough room between the trans and tub to go up a bit. Not sure how soon I'll do that though since the 35s are still fresh. I think I'll go run Rubicon and see how much I drag the belly.

      I haven't taken the diffs apart yet but I believe they're still 3.73 limited slip rear.. stock is open front diff but this one feels like it might have lsd up there too. I'm doing gears and diff covers soon so I'll get to find out what the ratio is and if there are any unexpected goodies inside.
