I've been going to a local music shop and listening to both HS5 and E5xt for over a week. My humble opinion (I have been in the producing/mixing industry for over 10 years), and please bear in mind the price here for both sets of monitors: Buy HS5s if you want your studio to look cool (having them in your studio is more for an image in front of others). Buy E5xt's if you want your studio to sound cool. That simple.

@JODE the flowing water I decided to go with the 5xt version. To my ear it had better frequency response, better lows and mids, more controls in the back (low/mid/high gain, low/high cut, acoustic space...). Overall, the eris 5xt is quite a good upgrade from the older eris 5. You won't regret it, I promise. Just a tip (if you go with the 5xt), maybe they will sound a little "harsh" on highs so it's better to cut them a little from the control knob in the back. The thing that I really like about the 5xt is that you can produce/mix/translate very very accurate mixes and also you can enjoy listening to high quality music too (no ear fatigue at all).

Just received a pair of E5 XT's today and set them up side by side with my Neumann KH120's.... WOW... the E5's make the KH120's sound like they have a blanket over them. They sound super clear, plenty of depth, the mid's are really in your face (which I love) and I can really hear the transient details and reverbs etc. I moved earlier this year and struggled with placement of the KH120's and a set of A7X which I feel are impossible to hear drum hits on. I finally got fed up and decided to spend the measly (in comparison) $350 CAD to get the Eris and needless to say I'm selling all my more expensive monitors and going with these. I run my sound through an Audient ID22 and I just ordered the E8 XT's to run side by side with my 5's. I produce a lot of electronic and hiphop music, but I've been listening and comparing all genres today and I'm really blown away. Do yourself a favour and check out the E5 XT's.

PreSonus E5 XT vs Kali Audio LP6

  • @philchapman1463
    @philchapman1463 2 года назад +4

Wow the clarity and separation of tones in the Yamaha is amazing, one can hear even the slightest decay of notes as they fade, distinct little nuances can be picked out amongst many instrument played at once, even in the piano one can hear the notes as they fade off in the background, great separation. I can understand why there used for mixing and not for casual listening. The PreSonus would make for a nice causal listening speaker as it it adds some timbre of overtones to round out or support the bass and mids and help blend in the highs, however this does cause some loss of clarity as some frequencies get masked over or covered or lost. A sub woofer with the Yamaha would probably round out the overall sound.

I read the comment from the person who’s been in the mixing industry for years and what they said about if you want cool looking speakers by all means get the HS5 but if you want cool sounding speakers get the ERIS E5 XT so i did just that.

I know these comparisons don't compare to hearing them in real life but it does help to pick out the basic differences in how each monitor affects a particular track - my take away here is the the HS5 does a great job of creating clear mids and highs but compared to the original track it rolls off so much of the bottom end that I fear my mixes would be too bass heavy to compensate whereas the XT still retains that clarity and even seems to have a better stereo image but also has clear and tight bottom end. perhaps the HS5 really needs a sub, but at this end of the market where price is an issue that's a bit of a disadvantage.

The HS5's are good in combination with a sub. For stand alone I prefer the Eris 5XT's. I've had them both on my desk. Both are well made. The Eris cover the frequencies you need to mix. The Yamahas on their own come across as a bit on the thin side. I'm sure you could mix with them and then use a good set of headphones to check the low end, but that isn't ideal.

It would be totally nice, if you can include the Yamaha MSP series in your comparisons.
Yesterday, I've compared the Yamaha MSP 3 (smallest version of the MSP series) - the studio monitors of a good friend - with my Presonus Eris 3.5 (smallest version of the Presonus series).
And somehow, I liked the more airy, very detailed hi-res sound and the better panorama staging of the Yamaha MSP 3 a bit more.
Although... my mixes sounded kinda similar concerning the frequency response levels (Presonus makes a bit more bass, but lacks a bit in the top end frequency spectrum), some of my tracks I would have mixed slightly different at some parts at which the Presonus Eris 3.5 have shown me a clean mix, but the Yamaha MSP 3 gave me a little warning that there could be some minimally muffled mids at some parts of the tracks.
But most of my mixed tracks sound really good on both studio monitor systems - so, I guess the decision between both is not a deadly one for a beginner or advanced composer or audio engineer.

You can mess with the EQ's at the back of the XT's to get closer to the HS5's if you so wish by decreasing the bass and increasing the mids and highs. They are very versatile from what I can tell. These will most likely be my next pickup to go alongside my BX5 D2's.

If during mixing and the bass sounds good on THOSE speakers (H5's) then moving to another set such as a car stereo there won't be enough bass in the track. Some mids are completely missing from the PreSonus. The bass is just overpowering everything...

The Presonus pair makes the Yamaha's sound awful. Unless you're mixing music there's no reason to ever consider the HS5

The E5 sound scooped. Don't like 'em at all. I'm listening through HS5 :) Seriously, the mids are very forward on the Yamahas. They're perfect for what I use them for: sitting 3 ft from them as computer speakers, listening almost entirely at low volume. Very clear, detailed sound. Compare vocal and clapping in "Dream a Dream" track. Very good response for hearing spoken content in TV programming, movies, youtube videos at low volume. I have the yamaha 8" sub for these, but I don't use it, out of courtesy to the neighbors. For music listening at higher levels, the sub is a must for the Yamahas. I use headphones instead. Neighbors. Also experiment with placement vs the wall and your acoustic treatment. Ports are on top in back. I have mine placed pretty close to an untreated wall. For low to mid level listening, front-facing ports on the E5 are probably an advantage. If I was buying monitors now I'd have to listen to them.

I put my sub on an acoustic isolation platform and what a difference that made to the sound

I never liked the Yamaha's. Clinical..sterile..thin..lifeless...yet it was always receiving praise online. The Yamaha's have slightly better high end but the mid range just bottoms out. No thanks.

No way the xt sounds closer to the 1st to mixes, I noticed a shift in pitch like xt 5's are more focused where the human voice is.3,5khz area and the person mixing gave more love at 1khz-1500khz am I correct? Not sure?
