    • @FiveBros1

Having born in Johannesburg and moved to cpt 8 years ago. I can tell you nothing beats a modern clean city, has nice views, easy of doing business (Johannesburg is not as it used to be),well run, is more diverse, less crime than other parts of the country and way too less corruption (nonexistent in some fields), things just work better hire. If Joburg is better than why do ppl from there keep emigrating down here. I mean can you do outdoor activities even there? Can you walk in town or even in a safer place in night? I'm not saying cpt has no crime, but I can still walk from town to my house in gardens which is like 8 km around 1 in the night. Petrol is cheaper here, life is better if you own your house or on mortgage, because property is expensive here than Joburg(I don't mean whole of Joburg but on average ). By the way Joburg is way too less developed than cpt. We have better roads and overall infrastructure. Whenever I go to Joburg I fell like it's getting more shittier than ever.

I visited South Africa from the United States about two years ago. I found that the vast majority of South Africans really liked Cape Town. I traveled all over the country and everyone kept telling me that Cape Town was absolutely fantastic. When I finally got to Cape Town I found it to be just okay, still had a good time but I think my experience had more to do with the fact that I met more locals in other regions than I did in Cape Town. I travel more for cultural experiences than laying on beaches, etc, so I tend to have a better time when I can mingle and hang-out with people who live there. I don't know, I think that was due to the fact that Cape Town has a lot of tourists.
But as far as living in any city in South Africa, I have no idea on that one.

One aspect not covered in this thought provoking comparison is climate.. The "Cape Province" has a Mediterranean type climate, with mild, wet winters whilst Johannesburg and much of the "Highveld" hinterland, at an altitude of some 6000 ft. is much more prone to more extreme weather. For example in winter on occasion, on parts of the Witwatersrand and Highveld there is snow and temperatures approaching freezing, mostly at night. Something to be factored in regarding heating costs...?

I've lived in both cities and right now I'm staying in Cape Town. *Here's how they compare according to my experience.*
*Crime:* Cape Town is a lot safer than JHB in my opinion, I haven't had a house break in or robbery in CPT, I can't say the same for JHB. - CPT Wins
*Roads:* The roads in Cape Town are a lot nicer and more scenic but I hate that there's speed cameras all over the place. If you're a petrolhead like me you'll enjoy a Saturday morning drive because there's a lot of beautiful roads in Cape Town - CPT Wins
*Business*: Personally I find it easier to do business in JHB, there's far less bureaucracy in JHB. - JHB Wins
*Career:* I'm in the IT sector and it's thriving in CPT, however the same can't be said for every other industry sector. JHB is a industrial and services powerhouse. Unemployment is likely higher in JHB because everyone is moving to JHB seeking the Sandton dream - JHB wins
*Service Delivery:* This is a clear win for CPT, things just get done quickly and there's far less corruption compared to JHB. - CPT Wins
*Activities and Entertainment:* The clubs in JHB are tops, I like the music and vibe there, but in other entertainment sectors there's no competition, CPT easily wins this, there's table mountain, vineyards, garden route, etc. - CPT Wins
*Diversity:* Cape Town is far less diverse than JHB. It kind 'a feels like that Trevor Noah joke were he said that "The rainbows are going their own separate way". - JHB Wins
*Property Prices:* Properties in Cape Town are ridiculously overpriced, yes I agree that there's service delivery in CPT as well as a lot of 'safety' but the property prices are just overpriced and the rent is also ridiculously overpriced. - JHB Wins
*Public Transport:* Cape Town wins in this category because it has a world functioning public transport system. You can choose to use a train, bus or taxi. They are dependable and reliable. - CPT wins
    My Take:*
    - Both cities are unique and offer unique experiences, I personally prefer Cape Town because of the better service delivery, low crime rates, tourist attractions and being it's in close proximity to the ocean.
    - If I were tp ever move back to JHB it would be because I want to be closer to family and old friends.

I mean it depends on what you're looking for. Johannesburg is for business. Cape Town is for lifestyle.

    Cape town property is ridiculous
But a way better run city than Johannesburg.... it's like night and day.
So u need to ask yourself... do u want a shit run city that has the walking dead roaming the streets at night and pay a little money for a beautiful home or apartment?
Or do you want an absolutely beautiful city that's run efficiently but pay your ass and limbs on a place to live.... that's tiny and may even have carpets(if the apartment is tiled u gonna pay even more)
