Interesting to see 2 that have never filled a battery before tackling sailing around the world. I appreciate seeing all you guys do . Thanks and good luck.
We started out with very little experience, trying to learn as we go. The goal is to sail around the world, but we don't have enough skill at this point. We are just trying to make sure that we learn enough to the next place we drop anchor. If we keep doing that we will gain the skills we need :-)
At 1.44min: 😁😁😁👍👌👏 At 3.15min: I almost had a heart attack and definitely held my breath during the outboard motor lifting onto the transom operation. And I definitely remembered the camera loss. 😱 Please guys, next time put a safety rope around/on the motor. This will not only able to save your engine but also provide viewers heart attacks! 😁 ;-)
Your enthusiasm and give it a go attitude is what makes this channel so watchable for me. I like that you vlogs are up to date and we're not waiting 3 months to see it. I do worry about your boat though. All thru hulls below the waterline should have a seacock and a vented loop to prevent flooding. it would be better if your bilge pumps discharged above the waterline which would avoid the syphoning you're experiencing
Thanks heaps for the kind words, being 100% in real time can have its down sides but like you we wouldn't have it any other way. We are about to address the thru hall, There will be a temp fix until we pull the boat out of the water and move the thru hull. I thought we had some 1 1/8" vented loops on board but i can't find them... I guess we just have to do a big week of boat jobs and they will turn up. We also have a back up pump in place just in case. Hope this will take away your worry :-)
Happy New Year! - really enjoying your videos, full of life and optimism AND smiles. I'm also enjoying the technical stuff. Keep it up and have a wonderful 2024 🤗
Awesome!! You two are doing it right. You're being careful and smart, more confident as time goes by. Staying ahead of the weather. I love your zest for life too. Careful with that outboard though, I'd put a line on it while installing it, a little lost footing on that tipsy raft and plunk it could head to the bottom. I'd also mount it outside instead of storing it inside. Looking forward to your next one :) Happy Holidays
You are right, we really should have put a line on it. We only had it on the bed because it was new. It will stay on the dinghy till we have to make another big passage and then we will find a place for it. pumped you liked the video and thanks for the kind words :-)
There should be a one way check valve in the bilge pump line. It may be plugged or defective. Great job you too. Enjoy watching your sailing adventures. Lmao 😊
I’ve watched all your vids but haven’t been able to comment on the last few. As always my favorite part is celebrating with a beer🍺🍺. I very excited for you both to officially be on your way to Adventureland!!! I enjoy the excitement you two put out there. Thank you and have an adventurous 2024. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
We always look forward to hearing from you, but even if you can't comment we are super happy to know that you are still enjoying the videos :-) even though we have stuff go wrong every now and then ,we are having a great start to 2024! and both of us hope that you can have a great start to your year even if things go wrong some times :-)
A safety rope does 2 things - Allows you to secure the engine to the dingy & it gives you an additional rope to help lower it onto the transom. Also - you might consider splicing a "net" to go over the engine to allow you to use a halyard to help move the engine....
Hi guys, happy New Year to you both in 2024. Keep smiling you guys when you smile the whole world smiles with you. Cliff from Logan City Queensland Australia 🇦🇺👨🏻🦽
Your Connected Charisma brings beautiful empathy to your videos, and here is much appreciated, all the more so as you both are embracing a deep learning process, and its more profound to learn from mistakes, especially others ones. Fair Winds and safe arrivals always.
Enjoyed the video! Nice dinghy motor! In the past, I attached a halyard to the outboard as a safety measure (so that you can quickly haul it back out of the water too)
Love the videos. The trick I use with raising the main sail is that only to boom has to point into the wind, not the whole boat. So you can go on a close reach and even a bit further and release the main sheet far enough. You can then raise, lower and reef the main easily, just make sure the main sail is flapping.
Wow thats a big motor on the dinghy . My back was killing me just watching you carry that around . Next time try putting the dinghy in the water then use the davit to lower the motor on to it . Remember no one is born with wisdom . It takes many years of learning , but you will get there . One day at a time . Great job you two . Happy New Year !
One thing I noticed on all of your videos Darcy is always smiling seems to be very calm and doesn't get upset during some of the deepest challenges of fixing things. Seems like an extremely patient man. Is this the real him or just on camera? Curious minds want to know. I love the way he jumps in to tackle problems with confidence. Stay safe Happy New Year and God bless
You may be shocked to know that he is some how calmer when the camera is off, he is just a really chill guy. Because we are both so new at this we always try and talk it out when stuff goes wrong, that way we have less of a chance to miss things and make it even worse haha. Thanks for the kind words! Hope you have a great year to :-)
@@sailing.supernovatalking things out also puts everything in the open so everyone is on the same page. Win some lose some always with love. Keep sailing. Much love and many blessings
We LOVED the Sea of Cortez. We cruised as a couple, tens of thousands of miles on our 46’ mono. This area of the world is a great one, among our favorites. A couple of tips. One, I know that you just bought that OB motor. But to others and next time for you. Get a 2 stroke! For this application they are soooooo superior. MUCH lighter, simpler, more dependable, easier to work on. The only negative is that they do burn more fuel. A very popular brand world wide is Enduro, the international / commercial model of Yamaha. Those 4 strokes are just too heave for dingy use. They should be readily available in Mexico. A minor point you might already know. When you ease out a line on a winch, to keep better control and avoid wraps put one hand around the line on the winch, sort of like the brake drum on a car, and keep just enough pressure to control the line going out, but do keep ahold of it with the other too. ( sorry, Im a US Sailing cruising instructor, many of my students now out cruising the world). And do NOT toss out a Bonita. Great eating fish if you do it right. They are very bloody and so can have a strong flavor. The trick is right after you catch the fish. Tie a line on the base of his tail, then cut off his head and hang him over the side to drain. Just above the water. ( but not so close something might grab a free meal). Let it drain till it seems pretty much drained. Then filet and when ready to cook, cut into bite size ( 1/2-1” pieces. Now sauté in butter, garlic and spices to taste. Wow. Yummy. Try it. Happy cruising. I will subscribe. Capt . Fred
We will look into a 2 stroke for when this motor dies, we do hope it lasts a bit though haha, its about 125lbs so i can't lift it, but Darcy seems to be able to, And he built the davits to take a lot of pounds. Thanks for the tip on the winch, We are hopping to get the chance to practice a bunch in the spot we are in now. Its got good wind and really flat water, so any other tips would be great! We were told that Bonita tasted really fishy, if we start running low on fish we will give it a shot, or if we are with other sailors who like to eat them. Thanks for all the help Captain Fred! :-)
Good job on catching the bilge problem guys...i don't think Darcy minded being woken up ... super chill as always. I don't know how you managed to get the motor onto the dinghy Nicely done 👍 Thanks for the video 👏
I couldn't believe it, in 3 minutes he had gotten up, been told about the problem, wired the new pump, flashed me a smile and said "great catch hun" and went back to bed haha. I was in shock lol I mean who isn't grumpy when they have to do that in the middle of the night haha
Love watching you guys do your thing. I have thoughts that I would enjoy this kind of life, but also have mild Thalassophobia, so ill just live through your videos, lol. thanks for the content!
Well if that's the case we will just have to keep making cool videos for you to watch! but if you think you would like it then do you best to fight that Thalassophobia and get out on a boat, even its its just for a day or to :-) Thanks for the kind words :-)
A most excellent way of sinking your motor to the ocean bottom witha single slip, it would have been better to attach the motor to the dinghy davits or a halyard like other people do. 😊
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas Yvette, Darcy! Which one of you is going to be the 1st to waterski behind the dingy 😁that thing fly's now. Darcy, in the shallows, reset the tilt on the motor to keep those weeds out of the prop, the Spanish instructions will tell you how 😂 --Jerry
You need to find or make a place for your dingy motor near your deavits so that you can more easily get yours motor down to the dingy, otherwise your back is going to go bad very quickly. I know from experience. Have a Very Happy New Year!
When we were in Alaska we just kept it on the back of the dinghy, now that its back on we are going to keep it on for a long time. If we have to take it off again we will tie it off for sure and use the davits to lift it :-) Happy new year :-)
It was Darcy, and we had to get the Bimini to match... It does make the boat almost imposable to steal haha. and we make a lot of friends because everyone comes up to check out the pink boat lol
It looks like we can do it in anything under 15 knots but we have to have both engines on max, we are trying to put the main up before we pull the anchor now :-)
Darcy used to be a welder but has not done it for years, he worked any office job in health and safety, The first time i used a power drill was working on the boat so everything i know Darcy has shown me how to do it. we make a lot of mistakes but so far we have been able to fix them all with a help from people we meet and google haha
Scary with the outboard not attached to anything while putting onto the dinghy. Perhaps a rope attached to the davit would be handy if you slipped and dropped it.

Was the fish a wahoo, mackerel or a bonito?😊
We think it was a bonito
you have to point to wind to get main up without damage unless its very light or you can moter faster than the wind is chasing you
It looks like we can do it in anything under 15 knots but we have to have both engines on max, we are trying to put the main up before we pull the anchor now :-)

Do it, The area around BC is so cool i could sail there for years... just the winters are a bit cold for this Aussie haha
we use predict wind, but we are starting to use windy now to. Mexico is great, the fishing is huge and the food is so good!
Can I mention the tape over the microwave 😳
its webbing that we attached so the microwave didn't jump off the counter, we plan to make it look a bit nicer.... but that may be a bit haha
Hi Darcy
Was thta Emu on the beach at the 8.37 mark?
No i`m not drunk lol
It was a pelican :-) but it did look like an Emu for a second there haha
How are the dyneema lines holding up, BTW? (EDIT: LOL - get a bigger dingy motor, they said...) :0)
They are doing great! but we are going to change them out for thicker ones, the stuff we put on was so thin that it gets in the side of the blocks. We have 1/4" line to put on.
I'm glad he could lift it, because i can't even lift that thing haha
Please use a preventer when doing this
We have the preventer on almost all the time when our main sail is anywhere past the traveler.
Hope you enjoyed the video :-)
Make sure to make your dinghy motor looking as old as possible. Less of an attraction to be stolen.
We are going to do this... we just may cry when doing it lol
I’ve heard that it is a good idea to distress the appearance of your outboard. Make it look as shitty as possible. Less likely to get stolen.
We were thinking about doing this... it will hurt but we will do it at some point haha
Well done not dropping the new outboard overboard. We’ve seen as many dropped outboards as lines fouled in a prop. Happy New Year.
Thanks, we should tie it off next time though, we really don't want to drop it overboard.
Happy new year :-)
both those tuna were albacore tuna.
They didn't really look like the one we caught coming down from Canada. But we are not great with Fish I.D.
