      A correction. The validity check would be looking for if that serial number is a format that Nintendo uses, not if it’s a real serial number or not. While I believe this leak is real and most likely that serial number will be a legit one, the site does not actually confirm that.

    Y'know what, I'm convinced that's a optical sensor we're looking that. It backs up NextHandheld's claim of a "new orientation" for the Joy-Cons and there's a surprising amount of implications a feature like this could have. Not only could Nintendo think of clever uses for it in their own games, but it also could allow certain PC games that rely on keyboard and mouse controls to come over to the system as third party offerings (which would be awesome, especially if USB keyboard accessories get made). Furthermore, it could be another reason why the shoulder and trigger buttons are bigger now, it's to make using the Joy-Cons like computer mice more comfortable. Hell, if they really want to get wacky with the idea, they could somehow incorporate scrolling functionality into the shoulder buttons, akin to that one patent they put out about the shoulder buttons being scroll wheels. Another thing is that I think it would be beneficial if the sensor was in both Joy-Cons, as left handed people would also be able to use them like a mouse.

  • @Rune_Scholar
    @Rune_Scholar 17 дней назад +1

    I wanted to add to my earlier comment about the extra button not being the disengage button but a new input, but I am not about to scroll till I find it. I am not a hardware designer, but I have played with a lot of magnets and I do have basic engineering knowledge. These magnets would need to be reasonably powerful, right? I would expect them to be in order to hold the joycons on. Think of it. This is a device that you will be playing while gripping it solely by the joycons. If they come loose, the Switch 2 is falling. This is also a device you might toss in your bag, and it would be crappy design if the joycons come off inside. So we are talking about powerful magnets.
    So what exactly would that single button do? Yes, single button. We know there is at least a top and bottom magnet from all the links. How exactly would that button press move both magnets? And how would it be able to move those magnets enough that they aren’t still attracting the Switch 2’s magnets? If the magnets are weak enough that they can be disengaged by moving them slightly, then they are weak enough that you can just pull them off. And this system would be solely on the joycons-where the button is-which don’t have a lot of internal real estate for a whole moving lever that has magnets attached. They need to strike a balance between attraction strength and being able to be pulled off.
    I’m not saying I’m right about this, I’m just trying to puzzle through how it could work.

    • @carriejohnson4922
      @carriejohnson4922 17 дней назад

      Pretty sure the trigger type button on the back on the joycons have to be to release the magnets. It makes the most sense and it’s exactly where the old tiny button was to release and slide the joycons off. If there is no type of release button at all then that would blow my mind because like you said they wouldn’t be very good with just magnets alone, children would struggle to get them out if they wet too strong and that would defeat the purpose entirely, and if too weak then a lot of switches will get broke and that’s not something Nintendo would put out there. They are a family directed company, meaning what they make is very family friendly of all ages.
      The c button on the other hand couldn’t be for that, that’s something different.

    • @Rune_Scholar
      @Rune_Scholar 17 дней назад

      @carriejohnson4922 what do you mean "release the magnets" though? The button is on the joycon, so it will only affect those magnets. There isn't a lot of room in a joycon, so how do you "release" both the top and bottom joycon magnet when there is only a top button? You can't just turn magnets off. Unless they are electro magnets and those require a pretty to strong current.
      I guess there could be a lever inside that slides a non magnetic bar across the internal magnets, breaking their attraction... But what happens if you accidently press that button while gaming. It's much bigger now, and your middle finger will naturally rest against it. The whole reason the current release button is small and awkward to press is so that you don't accidentally press it.

    • @Rune_Scholar

    The "mouse" style could also be used as a possible 1 monitor solution for DS/WiiU games, since you can keep both the normal button access and the "touch" (through mouse positioning) portion of it. 🤔 It certainly isn't optimal, but it could be viable for playing those games when the switch is recharging, for example.

    In my honest opinion it doesn't make a lot sense to put an optical sensor on the joycon. They should just add native support mouse and keyboard with bluetooth. They could even sale their own branded keyboards and mice. They aren't adding an accessible web browser because that has been security vulnerability on literally every console that has one.

    I don’t think this is a mouse sensor. Most players play in docked and handheld mode. The only way a mouse-like feature would work is on a flat surface like a desk. At that point, players could just use an actual mouse that would be more comfortable to hold. It’d be an underutilized gimmick since most people dont wanna sit at a desk to game, i mean thats the whole point in buying a console over a pc.
    Instead, the Switch 2 should focus on better motion and pointer tracking. With Xbox Kinect and PlayStation Move gone, Nintendo dominates motion gaming. Doubling down on that, rather than adding a niche feature, would be the smarter move.

    • @bk6555
      @bk6555 17 дней назад

      That's not the direction it is headed though. The Switch and Switch 2 are practically about playing your game where ever you might be as the main focus, not purely playing the game swinging the joycon around. The movement gimmick is now basically a "bonus" feature of the system. That being said, I honestly think Nintendo might be working top secretly on AR/VR. It would have to be done differently than a mainline thing.

    So theire copying the Legion Go controller basically that you can use in joystick mouse mode using the stand? Isnt it a bit narrow and thin for that purpose in this case, if you use that side you might just tilt over to one side rather easily? I also cant beleive they gonna pair baby blue (left controller) with bright orange (right controller). Any color other than orange would harmonize more with baby blue from a color theory standpoint.

    If true, that'd be really cool.
    But to be honest, the Switch gyro control already "caught up" with PC mouse... gyro is a very capable mouse-like aiming alternative if done right.
    I've been playing games like, Rogue Company, Paladins and now Overwatch 2 between PC and Switch and I don't feel restrained by using gyro; it feels pretty much like using a mouse.

    How many people would be playing, either in docked or hand held, in a way where they would have a surface on which the mouse could work? That seems fairly specific use-case that would heavily limit when a mouse-like usage could be put into practice. It IS 100% a Nintendo-style move that could really open things up, but I'm struggling to understand how this would be a big deal unless I'm the dinosaur still playing games on my couch.
    The other recent leak (Famiboards, translated from a Chinese forum), did mention that indie devs didn't get joycons with their dev kits and have been using Switch 1 joycons. Having an optical device for a totally revolutionary usage of a gamepad would be a big enough deal to warrant not sending out new joycons to indie devs that are more likely (or at least perceived to be more likely) to be sources of leaks. Then again... it could just be as simple as sending out the minimum required hardware. It also seems kinda weird Nintendo would not want devs to be able to take into account this feature, unless they maybe figure it's a simple back control reworking for indie games that will already be mouse capable (if useful)?

    • @bk6555
      @bk6555 17 дней назад

      It's always the in-house teams that builds their new games from the ground up using these features first. I think with how paranoid Nintendo is, it wouldn't be surprising they took this route first to ensure their patent/idea didn't get stolen just in case. It would make sense to have several games readied using this feature when they reveal the console.

    1) theres no screws (actually only one is visible in all the images shown).
    2) 11:55 - where are the Dpad buttons? You can only see one button (probably the →), but we should be able to see at least 3 buttons on the side (↑, ↓ , →). Pretty much like the actual joy con on the right image, where you can see the 3 buttons.

    Thanks for the demonstration of the joycon it was interesting to see it used like a mouse and to use your thumb on the stick and your pointer finger and middle finger to click the top buttons like a mouse you could also use the other joycon as w,a,s,d so basically walk forward with action buttons and mouse around for aiming with other joycon dude that’s awesome what a time to be alive!!!!

Wow Nintendo is just amazing. The only thing left for me is VR. I really love my Quest 3 and if I could trade it for a Nintendo VR I would in a second.
