@@cherylroberts3859 Not sure about that. Sting's last great album was Brand New Day (1999). Nothing Like the Sun, The Soul Cage, Ten Summoner's Tales in a row.. shioriryukaze But, it was a part of mainstream music, as it peaked at #15 on the general U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Chart, so great music isn't always mainstream, but isn't always underground either. It's all good, because we both like this track. :-)
There is still magic, you just have to go looking for it. Now more than ever, independent and amateur artists have a platform for wide audiences, it's just that it isn't through the same mediums that it was back then. In stead of the radio or TV, it's the internet. And if you know where to look, you'll see it. Like a secret garden.
+mnljh711986 His album, Sacred Love, which came out after 2000 is brilliant. Lyrics with incredible images and references (Shakespeare, Blake, biblical and others) which show how well-read and articulate he his. He continued to experiment with various musical genres and tried new instrumentation. His brilliance did not end at the millennium.
I heard that this song he dedicated to his mother after she died... So I think it's just enough of this kind of light beautiful harmonies for this song.
Augford P. Doggie This is one of the tricks I love Sting's music for. For instance we can find quite a similar part in If I Ever Lose My Faith In You - prior to this line: ...I could be lost inside their lies without a trace... Well, I love Sting's music in general, of course!!!
This is my favourite song by Sting and one of the best he has ever written. To me 'Turtles', Nothing Like The Sun" are the two best solo albums for mood and great songs. I'm not saying "Ten Sommoner's Tales" is not great, it's a masterpiece, but in a different way. If there is one song that sticks in my mind for nearly all of the 26 years since I first heard it, it's this one. An out and out classic!
Yes, that is a great track. The Soul Cages disappointed me back in 1991 but in recent years I learned to appreciate it. It is in fact a good album. It's Sting moving into storytelling rather than the usual 'this is what's happening in the world' and socio-politics of his earlier works. Island of Souls is fantastic, along with Mad About You. Side two of the LP was a quieter affair but the maturity is there with some strong lyrics and subtle melodies. I really like 'Straight To My Heart' from 'Nothing Like The Sun'. It's a superb song. Sting is a great musician and songwriter no doubt. 'Ten Summoner's Tales is a masterpiece but 'Mercury Falling' is pretty poor and this is one I don't like now. The casual soul driven songs don't work for Sting on this one and it portrays a man with very little to say in 1996. Then again I love 'I was Brought To My Senses' I guess!
I listened to 'Blue Turtles' this week and some of the lyrics are a little corny especially in 'Russians' the line "Mr. Oppenheimer's deadly toy"! Sting was very egotistical then and very righteous. A lot of people hated his 'I'm telling you' attitude. He was coming across as the intellectual giant of pop, campaigning for the Rain Forrest, Amnesty and trying to save the world. Still he delivered what is the most important thing for a creative artist, the music. Who cares about his views when he gives us 'Fortress Around Your Heart' and 'Children's Crusade'. I actually met him last summer the night before he played in Cork city, Ireland. I had a photo taken with him and he was very quiet. I even shared a joke with himself and Trudy. I'm not a celebrity hound but it was great to see a man that wrote some great songs that you liked growing up, in the flesh. I would have loved to do a quick interview as I am a film maker myself, but he was after an evening meal and heading back to his hotel. I saw the concert the following night and he rocked 'em all. I saw him in Dublin in '96 also.
The first and only I saw Sting on stage was in 1988, in my hometown Toulouse, France. It was precisely during the Nothing like the sun tour. 3 hours of magic. I remember 1991 and the Soul Cages which I found, back in the days, pretty boring. I forgot Sting for 20 years or so. But I came back to his music through Turtles & Like the sun. Great albums of my teenage days. Great memories.
***** That reminds me of - but in a very different sense - when The Police came and played at Aztec Stadium at San Diego State University when I was kid - I guess about 12 or 13, when they were at the peak of their original success (right around the time Synchronicity was released, '83 or so). Aztec Stadium is basically like a big bowl. We lived on the eastern edge of campus, next to what was then a sprawling parking lot (now a huge parking garage), probably around a mile-1.5 miles from the Stadium. Me and some friends were outside, walking back to my house. The way the sound projected out from the bowl it sounded like The Police were playing in a boom box right next to us. We went to the campus and of course had no money for tickets. We kept trying to find a way to sneak in around the fencing they had put up to keep people (like us non-ticket-payers) out. No such luck. Lots of security guards around and they kept watching me and my buddies. Never did find a way to sneak in but still it sounded like they were right next to us playing. Closest I've ever gotten to hear The Police play. Sorry to hear your experience wasn't so great. Many concerts these days are like that - huge stadiums to maximize tour revenue, very expensive tickets that are 2-10x face value because of Stubhub, and the seats where you'd get the most enjoyment are often thousands, easy. Nothing like when I was a kid and saw The Who, Kiss, Rush, Judas Priest, Aerosmith... and you could actually afford it (or, well, my parents could anyway). Anytime my 13 y.o. wants to go to a concert, it's almost impossible to afford even crappy tickets and because everything is online most face value tickets are sold in seconds.
This album and The Dream of the Blue Turtles have been my favourite ones since my childhood. And nothing has changed over the years. God bless Sting for his talent and creativity.

Yeah, i like how you put this. I was only talking today to some friends about Sting. If you didn't know his back catalogue, yet some familiarity with his music, you would hear a song and not know what decade let alone what year the song was released. His music defies popular music convention. He melds reggae, latin, eastern folk, funk, straight ahead grooves twisted with odd time signatures. He also had the very best musicians working with him. He has ensured his longevity and relevance...
@Sting not yet, but here's hoping :) But you have been an inspiration and your music a great relief whenever I needed it throughout my life, especially since you pick your musicians so carefully :) Thank you fro everything💛🧡❤
" Wiggle like a fish caught on dry land. Struggle to avoid any helping hand" He's Lyrical Genius.. Be still my beating heart... Great song but these days you have to watch what you wish for ... "Stop before it starts" " I've been through every single book I know to sooth the thoughts that plague me so " Find your logic in the sea of emotions... while you have the time. Before it starts.. This song is a masterpiece.
_"Be still my beating heart"_ is the start phrase to this fascinating composition by Sting. The phrase is already out there in varied literary forms going back 300 years or more. No doubt Sting has pulled out that poetic phrase from his literary knowledge and built his song around it. I hadn't known of Sting's lyrics until having heard the arresting phrase the-day-before-yesterday quoted by a UK radio presenter _(James O’Brien on LBC Radio)_ that made me want to research the phrase online - which led to historic literary explanations and then to Sting's evocative singing. Sting - I've written a message of thanx to you and secured it in an empty bottle (not plastic) and chucked it into the sea with an embedded chip that will hopefully propel the bottle via satellite navigation and lunar tidal pulling power to your home area. Please look out for it in about ten years. 🌜

Tears rolled from my eyes at this master piece, unique, brilliant! Not for the mases. Thank You Sting. You are part of my Life. Best STING Song ever! Best regards from Mexico city. I missed your concert.
When God was passing down the good stuff this boy was right at the front of every single queue for EVERYTHING and got it all in spades.
One of my all time favorite songs. How do they write lyrics that nail your life? Stop before you start. Be still my beating heart.
Timeless Classic one of the best songs ever made. I will actualy play this at my funeral if I turn up for it 😉
They just dont make music like this anymore. Amazing work to this day.
This is a beautiful song!! I played this thousands and thousands of times I had a bad break up in 1987!!Wow!! The memories.
OMG this is by far the best song i've heard in a very long time, My mother also played and bought me sacred heart album, I am musician and this is a masterpiece....
By far, this is the best track in Sting's solo career. It peaked at #15 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Chart in 1988.
but if you think about it, most of the greatest music is not popular or main stream. that makes this song more timeless...
shioriryukaze What makes a track timeless is that it sounds timeless. Mainstream music has nothing to do with that part.
+Alexander The Great if you read the first part of my comment....thats what i said. i said the greatest music is NOT mainstream.
shioriryukaze But, it was a part of mainstream music, as it peaked at #15 on the general U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Chart, so great music isn't always mainstream, but isn't always underground either. It's all good, because we both like this track. :-)
+Alexander The Great i agree with that.
Sink like a stone that's been thrown in the ocean my logic has drown by a sea of emotion. Genius!
🙏
I love these lyrics so much
great line by the best lyricist ever
His solo work is incredible, love it. Thanks sting
My classical dynamics post-graduate lecturer posts the lyrics from his favourite songs before every lecture. This song was one of them.
Sting was in his dark mysterious period when he wrote this song.To Me this was his best song.So poetic and romantic.
Sting is above human, he's a gift to humanity and this song is a masterpiece.
we will never have music like this again. So sad.. nowadays just crap..
Bloomin Daisies logic has been drowned in a sea of emotion.🤘
it sting like a bee
I agree we had the best talent
lol, exactly what my dad told me about his time's music... and what his father told him...
Another classic from this dude! Sting is the sh*t!! I don't think he's capable of making a bad song. I haven't heard one yet!!
aritehook4u he definitely isn't capable of making a bad song, that's for sure!
aritehook4u This one's STILL the bomb.
agreed
+aritehook4u after the millennium everything he made hasn't been good, his older songs are brilliant
One of the GREAT artists...that voice is like velvet.
3:38-3:56 is one of the most beautiful sections of music I have ever heard. I wish he had made it longer
yess best seconds 💛
but this way you enjoy every second more and appreciate what is there
Augford P. Doggie you have so rightt dude.
I heard that this song he dedicated to his mother after she died... So I think it's just enough of this kind of light beautiful harmonies for this song.
Augford P. Doggie
This is one of the tricks I love Sting's music for. For instance we can find quite a similar part in If I Ever Lose My Faith In You - prior to this line: ...I could be lost inside their lies without a trace... Well, I love Sting's music in general, of course!!!
No one describes emotions like Sting. Still the best song writer ever!❤
Did you like Mad about You? I love that one as well.
This is why I love Sting.
Mr.Sting is sidekick for my soul when I look for an answer🙏🤞🏻
God!! I wish they still made music and wrote lyrics like this today... makes it that much more enjoyable.
Destroyer's Kaputt album has some cool shit that sounds like this
IMURJDigital so true
They're artist that do, you've gotta search to find their work though!
I can relate to this song in every way.
Be kind to yourself
This album and The Dream of the Blue Turtles have been my favourite ones since my childhood. And nothing has changed over the years. God bless Sting for his talent and creativity.
Be still my beating heart
It would be better to be cool
It's not time to be open just yet
A lesson once learned is so hard to forget
Be still my beating heart
Or I'll be taken for a fool
It's not healthy to run at this pace
The blood runs so red to my face
I've been to every single book I know
To soothe the thoughts that plague me so
I sink like a stone that's been thrown in the ocean
My logic has drowned in a sea of emotion
Stop before you start
Be still my beating heart
Restore my broken dreams
Shattered like a falling glass
I'm not ready to be broken just yet
A lesson once learned is so hard to forget
Be still my beating heart
You must learn to stand your ground
It's not healthy to run at this pace
The blood runs so red to my face
I've been to every single book I know
To soothe the thoughts that plague me so
Stop before you start
Be still my beating heart
Never to be wrong
Never to make promises that break
It's like singing in the wind
Or writing on the surface of a lake
And I wriggle like a fish caught on dry land
And I struggle to avoid any help at hand
I sink like a stone that's been thrown in the ocean
My logic has drowned in a sea of emotion
Stop before you start
Be still my beating heart...
Love the lyrics. Year 2020. Happy new year!!!
If you listen closely, there's another voice saying "Tried to answer the questions that plague me so"
Magical lyrics

So underrated :(
Beautiful model...Mitzi Martin has got to be the most beautiful model of that era. Period
THANK YOU! It was driving me crazy trying to find out who this beautiful girl in the vid was!
Listening to this classic album in these strange times of coronavirus. I'm 50 and i remember buying this cd when i was 17. The whole album was like a book of poetry. I'm proud to say i was there to experience this classic then and now. Thank you Sting for your words and your music. By the way, since i was 17 you are and still one of 3 of my idols. The other 2 are Madonna and Bono.
Id play all these albums, while cleaning , cooking washing clothes. Music a constant in my home and insense , champagne and candles
Seriously. How does one dude make so much perfect music. Well, with the best studio musicians on the face of the planet. But still..
Sting is the "love maker" of music. He's such a lyricist that he's like a puppet master when he creates. I absolutely love his art. 💜🎤🎸🎷🎹🎺🎻🥁
Wonderful! A great favorite from my youth but a different time that has past. We must accept this...
Sting, DON"T retire from the public forum! If you do, who'll sing decent and poetic music just as you? I'm warning ya, bro!
what a creation..timeless
@Sting not yet, but here's hoping :) But you have been an inspiration and your music a great relief whenever I needed it throughout my life, especially since you pick your musicians so carefully :) Thank you fro everything💛🧡❤
@Sting Serbia, if you can say hi to Sting from over here :)
When he sang you felt it...miss those days
" Wiggle like a fish caught on dry land. Struggle to avoid any helping hand" He's Lyrical Genius..
Be still my beating heart...
Great song but these days you have to watch what you wish for ...
"Stop before it starts"
" I've been through every single book I know to sooth the thoughts that plague me so "
Find your logic in the sea of emotions... while you have the time.
Before it starts..
This song is a masterpiece.
musical construction of this song is a masterpiece...
Grazie infinite caro RUclips per l'eccezionale edizione 🙏 Sei un tesoro 💯💝 Buon weekend 🏖️🌞☕ A più tardi 🇮🇹✔️🤗💙 Ciao ✍️
"I wriggle like a fish caught on dry land struggle to avoid any helping hand",,,boy can I relate to that...
As you've heard it way back on [KTWV] 94.7 FM The Wave (Los Angeles, California) back in the Mid-Late 80's.

Mr Sting have given us many beautiful songs over the years. This is one of them and its 2021.
This song gives me chills like no other. Absolutely amazing lyrics and voice.
Beautiful
Tamerlane, 1702
I also wrote him a letter and put it in a bottle.
I love this song down to the core of my being...every time I sing it, every word is felt. Simply beautiful... 🙏🏼
