    F1 is the Best audio system for D'n'B and techno. I was lucky to grew up as clubber in the city where we had one nightclub with such audio system. The whole dance pole was built by german sound engineer specifically for that F1 setup they had and that nightclub played mostly techno during friday-saturdays and saturday-sundays but on thursdays we had drum'n'bass, breakcore and schranz.
    It was the best of the best time in my teens...

      as someone who's also worked in the nightclub industry in multiple capacities, from manager, to live sound, to DJ, to audio consultant - and who also loves some d'n'b and techno - let me tell ya, funktion one makes the 2nd best system for this (and any) music. if you want the #1 best sound system on the market, you have to hear a danley / pure groove system. they're the only company on the planet that actually has out-done funktion one at their own game. whereas f1 has taken traditional speaker design and made it the best they could possibly be, danley has basically redesigned the speaker entirely from the ground up and concurrently no one else on the market can even do what they do. i definitely recommend finding a club or venue with a danley / PG system when you can. believe it or not, they're even better than f1 systems. though both companies definitely do great work.

      @@ActuallySanFrancisco funktion one have then the traditional woofer mid tweeter approach like a big part of bowers and Wilkins floorstanders on steroids.
      Danley has found a way to near perfect the coaxial horn's phase response trying to put all the drivers in one horn and use a passive crossover to correct the phase difference. My bill fitzmaurice design have standard coaxial horns with a very basic horn that is reasonably directive in the vertical plane but not true line sources. the piezoelectric tweeter bank option does better at controlling vertical dispersion. They need quite a bit of equalisation to get them to sound good.
      As far as speakers that stand out in terms of looks Void is the other manufacturer that comes to mind
      Complaints I've read about funktion one systems usually come from people with multi box rigs as I don't think they have put as much thought into reducing comb filtering than even bill fitzmaurice did on the designs for the speakers I built

    I have been impressed with the subwoofers, and have heard a system with 3 res 4, an f215, and 3 f221 per side in a relatively small outdoor space. I also feel like most other audio companies have been catching up though. I have had the exact same experience with Kv2 audio in a similar environment. I was allowed to stand right next to both systems. Both subwoofers could visibly vibrate objects. (Empty beverage cans an paper plates, the grass near them.) I feel like funktion one is often not set up very well in the top speakers, with the sound changing as you walk due to phasing issues better known as comb filtering, which can also cause the sound to change when the wind blows. However, a correctly set up sound system might have less of this issue.

      i’ve worked at and been to clubs with both. danley is not only better sound-wise but has an objectively better design. f-1 makes great traditional speakers. danley completely redesigned the speaker entirely, and it shows. both are good. danley is definitely better, though.

    Thanks for sharing. I know these systems well from the clubs and events. How does this stuff like Void and Funktion One pass for music reproduction? Don't get me wrong, the are very capable of loud, high dynamic, "impressive" sound. But it is not even close to even mid-fi, and it is so harsh and nasty that we all complain of how your ears ring for hours.
    Please, someone start installing something, ANYTHING, that sounds good and doesn't make you partially deaf in 5 minutes!

    Funktion one Always got very Bad dispersion on dancefloors when you Make a Big stack. I guess it's why you never see funktion one in Big concerts or Big festivals. They use it only for electronic music. There are so Many Real brands building way much better speakers and way more cheaper than this...

    • @nothingleft777
      @nothingleft777 8 лет назад +2

      Care to elaborate? I'm really interested in this. I've met a few club sound engineers in Berlin. They basically said "The reason we installed Funktion-One in our Techno floors is partly because when people look at those speakers, they will automatically think that the sound must be good, because it's Funktion-One. A little dose of Placebo effect is at play. In our opinion, L'Acoustics and d&b Audiotechnick are better than F1."
      They also said that F1s are designed for electronic dance music. Those F1s sound really crisp for techno/house etc. but not suitable for bands/live sounds.

    What garbage. Horn loaded subs in a professional PA? An enclosure design that holds as many trademarks as a Louis Vuitton handbag, plus really nasty resonance issues. The F1 front of house systems are the most overpriced pieces of crap since the Varilite in the 90s. They are the reason we NEEDED to install active feedback EQ. Non-uniform impedance (yeah, horn-loading has it's drawbacks and will destroy your amps unless they are over-spec), require bigger amps to drive them compared to an equivalent JBL system per dB. After pulling them apart to replace the crossover circuit, blown due to the lack of a diode or reverse bias MOSFET between the mid and tweeter horn, I reckon they have a build cost of next to nothing, yet people pay thousands for them.

      Hi Adam, what would you suggest as an alternative to F1s for house/techno music? :-)

    • @CharGorilla
      @CharGorilla 4 года назад +1

      @@alexp7076 For House / Techno, the F1 is a system which accentuates the bass, and gives a pneumatic power to the kick, and are a fine system for this style of music (despite being overpriced and over-hyped). Nexo would probably be the next choice for this style of music, however these are a very old design, and not supported well today.
      To clarify what I meant, for an arena show, they are incredibly difficult to manage, as those horn loaded subs produce sub-sonic frequencies which exhibit both constructive and destructive interference, which is hard to manage in a large scale environment. I'm not saying that F1 doesn't have it's niche, but it's not the be-all and end-all of PA systems.

      Truth be told, if you can afford it, L-ACOUSTICS is IMHO the best setup you can get. These rigs don't use any tricks, they still require massive amplifiers, but can literally blow you off your feet if you give them enough power. These have been used at the famous Defqon.1 festivals, and are preferred by most touring artists of any genre. They're an incredibly well designed system, that is both powerful and more importantly, controllable.
