Watch here The New Generation CHANGED The BJJ Belt System : • The New Generation CHA...
Every student wants to become a master (0:05-0:20)and every master wants to lead (0:38-1:08)his team of BJJ Titans. But what happens, when ambition sets in the mind of a student? He breaks away from his master to become his own King!
Brazilian jiu-jitsu over the years has risen to be one of the most popular martial arts in the world. This is due in part to how efficient and effective it has proven to be, with many people now showing interest in practicing(1:37-1:57) BJJ. The martial art is undoubtedly one of the most devastating there is. However, this growing popularity has led to an explosion in the number of gyms and BJJ academies.
But with so many of them popping up, one begins to wonder if there are too many BJJ academies(0:57-1:08) in the world or if the increase is necessary to accommodate the growing BJJ population.

True but some places, the market is saturated.

Master? Can we get rid of that term? I don't want to be a master nor will I suffer someone as my master.

I don't see the issue. Student trains... Gets to a certain level then opens their own gym... Is this not how the art is perpetuated?
More gyms in more areas gives more opportunities for a wider community. How is this a bad thing?
Sure not every instructor and thereby gym will have equal success, but it is what it is. Any opportunity to train is better than nothing..... And the good thing of more gyms, is you can always try a different gym if you don't like the gym/instructor. Seems net positive to me

Not even close to a saturated global market.

I agree, however, some of them are opening schools may not be the best of teachers or candidate right?

@@MMABJJChamps perhaps, but there will always be people who make better teachers or business owners or marketers than others. Learning BJJ from a coach who isn't the best is still better than nothing I'd say. Besides one can always commute to a more reputable gym at some point in their training if they feel it's necessary

@MMABJJChamps best? Define best? It is a subjective term. So who gets to decide what is best. Only reasonable and ethical thing to do is be transparent and provide as much information as possible for new students of the sport and let then make their own choices.

I think this video asks the right question about how the increasing amount of academies can affect quality. I believe being under a banner or not (my school is) changes little in most academies as the quality of the instructor and not the brand makes the difference. I was lucky to have an awesome instructor who took time to break down the parts of the move and the mechanics why when I didn't fully understand something. I can only aspire to render that same quality to my students in my academy, but the limit is not on the brand.
Taking other martial arts as an example, some have endured for 100's of years and have mixed results, but the real arts can still be found amongst the sea of schools even today.

When you have people like the DDS under John, having schools under a banner doesn't make sense

My hometown of 25,000 people does not have BJJ Within less than an hour and a half drive. High school has a top-flight wrestling team. Honestly, I found that one size does not fit all as far as academies go. Teaching styles make the experience. Gracie combatives was not my thing. But the Fabio Santos May Thai affiliated gym gave me what I was looking for as a more competitive style for tournaments.

@MMABJJChamps Bjj works for what it is good for and nothing else. 1 vs 1 on a soft mat is fine. 2 vs 1 in a parking lot I will take karate. I love BJJ but people overestimate its usefulness and underestimate other arts. Karate trained with proper sparring is a great art. I suggest karate combat

@@MMABJJChampsit works 1 vs 1 on soft mats. I like BJJ but 2 vs 1 or even 1vs1 in a parking lot with 140 degree pavement I will take the Karate first. People overestimate BJJ's usefulness and underestimate other arts. Karate with proper sparring is effective. We grapple 2 vs 1 sometimes at our gym and I have never seen the 1 win. Just saying

Don’t forget how cheesy and cringe some of the gym names and logos are.
