Sorin, great video as usual, very clear & easy to understand, i'd greatly appreciate if you would do a component run down on a future repair, small capacitors, resistors, fuses all look very similar, a lot of them with no visible markings leaving it very hard to identify the values unless you have access to schematic drawings, i would really appreciate it if you could explain how to identify the more common types, many thanks again, keep up the great work

They seem perfectly fine to me given the time you spent and the price one pays, also because you know it's not dangerous. Thanks for your contributions! if your checking computers, isn't it best to have the schematic.? for someone such as yourself if your repairing many laptops, you get used to the circuits, but for someone who may just have started checking laptops, would they not be best to try get the diagram first of the board to gain experience ? A silly question maybe, if you remove a component from the laptop and that components has a 'very small internal resistance;, but the laptops works once you remove the component, does that put extra stress on the remaining components, EVEN if only a very small amount.? GOOD JOB, !!

    Hi Sorin.
    I really enjoy your videos.
I had to repair that very same laptop (brand and model) a couple of weeks ago.
Same fault so I was going to take the same approach as you did, but watching this video gave me some more confidence about it :)
Only thing is I screwed up and managed to blew away that tiny capacitor next to pin 8 of MOSFET AON7200. When I tried to resolder it
I couldn't hold it in place, it kept sticking to my pliers instead of to the board, so it wouldn't stay in place.
I'm obviously not good at soldering so, and I could use a steadier hand but with this kind of tiny parts (not sure if it's a 008004),
do you have any special tricks/technique to solder them?
    Thanks!

I recently had this exact issue with an identical laptop and I revived it in the same way, however I'm curious about two things which may or may not be caused by this "repair": I noticed the laptop "double-posts", so you press the power button, the logo comes up and then it briefly shuts down before finally staying on (CMOS battery is ok, in case you're wondering). Also, would the battery still work as normal ? I actually found this laptop as junk and managed to fixed it thanks to you and since it's decent, I'm thinking of investing in a battery for it, but ONLY if the charging circuit still works, otherwise it would be a tremendous waste of money...haven't looked at the schematic to see what that transistor we've bypassed actually does. Cheers and thanks.

It is protecting the board, it switches off if there is some short but most likely the second mosfet would switch off, not the first. Since the first one was switched off, I assumed the second mosfet was on short so the first one switched off. He tested for short with the power supply and there were no power taking, so no short.. This one was just faulty mosfet, there was no short, nothing caused it, that's why he said it was ironic, the mosfet that protects the board actually caused the problem.

Hello, do you know the value of those inductors (i've seen a schematic that indicates they are inductors)(those two you say they are resistors?) near the power jack? Or the reference? Thanks. Love your work, you are one of the few that explains in detail what you are doing.
Edit: Found those components: They are HU-1M2012-121 inductors / 6A 120 ohms

    • @REVERSE_BIAS
      @REVERSE_BIAS Месяц назад

They'll only measure 120 ohms at 100mhz+ for high frequency filtering, so when measuring using a multimeter they should be measuring less than an ohm...milliohms in fact. That's why he jumped it... it'll be alreeeet!! 😊

if a board is taking 1-2 amps at 19v, its ok, but if its taking 1-2 amps at 2 volts, its short. Thats how the curent limit works, lowering the voltage

is it worth picking up a laptop on ebay for repair or parts to fix it for personal use? Seems to me those laptops are picked clean so refurbishing them could cost more than $100 dollars, but if you can get an i7 for 30-40 dollars and the motherboard boots to bios, it might be worth it?

id love to see if you could repair my old msi stealth pro. MSI said the whole mobo needed to be replaced and cost 1500euro to fix without telling me what the issue was. They pretty much point blank refused to tell me why. I did send it back before then toward the end of the warranty for cleaning and to fix the screen as the hinge damaged the cables to the screen. The same issue re-surfaced a month later and as I said they refused to tell me what was wrong.

From my experiences , a mosfet can work fine or can be in short, so check only if they are in short, otherwise its no point. But, let my find a job with dead power supply on the motherboard and i will make a video in detail

Hello, i have the exact same laptop computer. when i plug the charger, it shows green without battery and orange with battery attached. when i push the power button the blue light on the power button turns on and the indicator below the trackpad also show blue and screen dark. no fan spin, no hard drive movement, no power, also tried with HDMI, no activity. i took it apart and cleaned everything, put it back together its the same problem. i left the computer for more than a month and decided to try and turn it on, it turns on okay and everything works fine but then died during windows update and stayed dead with the same problem for more than a month. not the battery, not the screen, not the hard drive, not the RAM, not the charger, not the charger connector. apparently laptop turns on but not on. do you know what the problem will be? thanks.

i HAVE WI-FI BOOSTER 15 CM FROM NP 300E5 E AND RECEIVE 50 % OF WI-FI SIGNAL. I THINK PROBLEM MAY BE DIRTY CONTACTS AT WI-FI BOARD PINS TO MOTHER BOARD. FOR AN OLD MAN IS THE REMOVAL AND INSTALL OF THIS SAME WI-FI BOARD DIFFICULT ? SHOULD I TAKE TO REPAIR SHOP? i HAVE DONE SIMILAR WORK BEFORE SUCCESSFULLY ON TOSHIBA LAPTOPS.
