I always push nutrients until I get a bit of burn on the very tip. About a sixteenth to an eighth of an inch. That tells me I am reading all she can take. Good show guys.

Nutrients have little if any effect on leaf tips. It's a fable. Burnt tips DOES NOT mean you're feeding to the max.

Drybacks highly effect ec levels in the media. A high ec spike will burn tips even without "being too high"

Nitrogen deficiency. Magnesium deficiency. Iron deficiency. pH and temps. These are the biggest issues that cause yellowing/pale leaves.

great show, never let your plants sit and reuptake their runoff and go lighter on the nutes motto fixed 90% of my problems. When something is wrong I flush a half to a full gallon and that helps also if Ive overdid it.

Your Leaf veins that runs in the center of the leaf should be green, if your later in flower and your veins are green your fine even if your yellowing, if that vein is not green in veg and stretch thru mid flower somethings wrong, its the easiest way to read my plant, atleast for me.

It's usually always a root issue or a light or environment issue. Which using one word it's your environment and should check that in before just adding more nutrients. I don't care if you've been growing for 30 years when you pop a seed this is your first grow.😊

I think if you are doing organics and your pots are 10 gallon or bigger and you have enough organics its light or ph thats making leaf yellow i don't have problems after you dial your lights in and water in you should be right

So, is specifically the color yellow important because it's a universal indicator of plant sickness/weakness? Is that why Google, numerous botanists I read, the people who make "sticky traps" as well as the research says yellow specifically attracts the most bugs/pests?
    Great episode.

  • @cliffp73

16:23 ok guys what he meant by hot soil was it hasn’t broken down all the way and yes it’s warm to the touch. The only thing you can do with “Hot” soil is to mix it with inert soil that doesn’t have nutrients or put the “hot/high nuts” soil on the outside of the pot and put the inert soil in the middle. That’s my opinion of why he was saying hot but don’t know how to say it.

I just experimented with how much Dolimite and/or Gypsum that small plants can handle. I have found that it is very easy to create a calcium toxicity in too much applied. Yellow of the leaves occur in early veg

The first thing to add is almost always a balanced Calmag. Bloom city contains most of the micros, N, Mg, and Ca.

The main thing is to get to a comfortable enough place to just ignore the yellow. Kind of like when I asked my repair shop owner family member about a dash light on my old truck. Answer, put some duct tape over the light.
You guys should have an episode where you talk about the ugliest sickest looking plant you grew that ended up being fire. Sometimes I think that I treat my plants so poorly that it causes them to kick into a natural defense mechanism that makes the smoke 10x better.
I tell a better story than the reality and do pretty good at keeping them happy. Nevertheless, if we were to admit we’ve probably all been amazed by some ugly plants.

Nutrient lockout due to overabundance of nutrients or salt build ups, poor watering practices, or wild ph swings can all lead to yellowing. When in doubt, pay for a soil test. Well worth it.
