    Hello Adam and Zoe,
    We just finished watching your wonderful video of the NC500. It was fantastic, much better than we ever thought it would be. We are retired and caravan but for weeks we've been looking at changing to a motorhome, it looks so much easier. When we get our motorhome the first thing we'll do is go on the NC500. Thanks to your video we are even more encouraged to get a motorhome. We appreciate all your hard work making this video, it's the first one of yours we've watched. Now we've subscribed and will watch your previous videos. Thanks again.
    Ian and Angie.

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  5 лет назад

      Hi Ian and Angie, thank you so much for your wonderful comments and welcome to the channel.
      Motorhomes and caravans are great fun but I think it really depends on how you intend to use them. We don't like staying in one spot for too long and so a motorhome is ideal and gives us more freedom to wild camp and just roam. With a caravan you don't have the same freedom but you have the benefit of driving the car to places rather than driving a large vehicle. Taking your home with you allows you to make tea and hot meals where ever you are and you never leave anything behind.
      We're glad you enjoyed the NC500 video. We are currently touring around the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland (right now sitting in the Seefin View Point car park) so look out for the videos in the next few weeks.
      In July we have HermanFest where subscribers can spend the weekend camping with us in the New Forest. If you're interested there is a video with details, assuming you have a caravan or motorhome.
      Thanks again Ads

    Probably will do the run in August, not the best time of year but the other half works in a school so we are a bit limited, we have been touring in France the last couple of years, living about an hour from Dover its easy for the ferry. We done the Cairngorms and Skye three years ago and it rained every single day, It didn't really matter to me that much, have to expect that of Scotland, hopefully my dear wife will relinquish three weeks in the sun this year. My husband has been nagging me for ages to do the NC500. What with the current situation and the shielding I've ended up having the time to watch video's like yours. • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  3 года назад

      Hi Liz, don't worry about the narrow sections of the NC500. Scottish roads are better than most other places because they have frequent clearly marked passing bays and you can always see the next one so you can plan what you do. Don't drive nose to tail with other vehicles because you might not get in one bay. Let other vehicles get by you because you're not in a rush but others might be. Check out the official NC500 website for motorhome driving advice

    A very well produced video! I live on the NC500 and it’s always nice to see our area through a visitor’s eyes. Reminds me what we’ve got here. But, I’m amazed that’ like many NC500’ers, you skipped the entire east coast in one day! There is so much to see there; Wick with its Thomas Telford designed harbour and town, Lybster harbour, the Whaligoe Steps, Helmsdale’s harbour and Timespan museum with its history of the Clearances, then onto Dunrobin Castle and the nature reserve at Golspie, thebroch at Carn Liath and Loch Fleet nature reserve. Then there’s the whole of the Tarbat Peninsula, with the beautiful fishing village of Portmahomack and the lighthouse at Tarbat Ness (one of Scotland’s tallest).
    I think maybe we’re a victim of the road being much faster on the east side, so it’s easy to skip many of these places. Granted, it’s not as pretty and doesn’t have the instant “wow” factor of the north west, but it definitely rewards a little time`and patience.
    I highly recommend you do the route again, but this time anti-clockwise and linger along that east coast. You won’t be disappointed! Also, come in October and see the northern lights!
    Safe travels.

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  6 лет назад

      Thanks Mark, those places sound great. I think you're right about the road being much faster. We'd love to do it again but much slower. I'm glad you liked the video, it means so much. Where abouts do you live on the NC500?

      Herman the Hymer We’re in Tain (on the east coast, as I’m sure you guessed!). Moved here from Hampshire 6 years ago. Just about to push the button on buying a Toyota Regius camper conversion so we can do our own roaming round the NC500. I’m a part time professional landscape photographer and the camper will be ideal for getting on location at the right time of day. If you need the inside track on any aspects of the east coast and especially the Tarbat Peninsula, let me know.👍

      Hi Steve, I have a Dobby which is about the size of a mobile phone. It has a short flying time of about 6-8 mins and has some smart features like follow. I guess the reason I don't use it often is because I'd need to recharge the batteries before hand (I top them up to get max usage out of them), they are dangerous and shouldn't be used around people or buildings and the weather. You've also got to set the camera to an angle before flight so regardless of which one you have there is a lot of planning with a drone. I made an unboxing video and I'll see if I can find it for you. Thanks for watching

      Hi Diesel Dave, a lot of places where marked on the map. Smoo was one of them but I think we stopped whenever we felt like it. Missed lots though

    Very clever to have an onscreen window of you both while driving... bit noisy at 1:07!

      Hi Liz, we got it from the Tourist Information centre in Inverness. An interactive version is also online and I've put a link in the video description.
      When are you thinking of going?

    Great video. Going to do the NC500 next year. What is the availability of fuel like?

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  6 лет назад +2

      Callumat7. Hi, I was worried about traveling 500 miles and running out of fuel as well. You shouldn't have a problem. There are some on route but not many. I remember filling up when we could but we wasn't running low.

      Hi. Thanks very much for that. The route looked fantastic in your vid. Looking forward to doing it myself.

    Glad you enjoyed it. Liked your video, but you should ask some of the locals about the pronunciation of the place names. Some of them are a bit of the mark.

      We're glad you enjoyed the video, Alasdair. We do ask the locals sometimes but it only helps if I can remember what they said 😃🤣

    Really enjoyed the video. Great job explaining daily routes via the map, that'll help when we point the motorhome north! :) Would you say that 7 days on the NC 500 is a bit tight to see all the sights? And would you recommend anti clockwise? I'm also surprised at the number of places you can wild camp, would you go for those spots over 'proper' campsites? Thanks again!

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  3 года назад +1

      Hi Stewart, we're glad you enjoyed the video. I think 7 days to do the NC500 is plenty of time but it really depends on you and how long you want to drive for each day, what you want to visit and whether you want to take your time. Are you including the time it would take to get there? Wild Camping isn't for everybody. We where introduced because of Shieldag. Campsites over wild camping? We do enjoy wild camping but you could be disturbed or asked to move on (so no drinking) but you can find really nice spots. Also, wild camping is about camping in a tent. What we're talking about is sleeping in a vehicle in a layby which isn't strictly legal.
      I hope that helps.

      Just remember to fill up before you hit the wilds! Used to be some, how shall we say, interesting prices per litre in far North...
