05:20 "I'm gonna need a lot more learning before I'm as good as my dad..."
We all start at the same place: ZERO! No one is born knowing how to do any of this. Getting in there and doing it is how you get to be good. You've got this! 💪
Remember always use jack stands. Saved a guy's life one time when I kicked a jack stand under a car. A few seconds later guy was under car and fell off jack.
If you don't have jack stand put the tire under the car, so when it falls it falls on the rim.
@@MrEmbedded a wheel is easier to replace than a leg or an arm
I was witness to a no jackstand tragety . and my comment was only meant to help.. love your videos..
I like how Ben brings his son and daughter to work, and gives them a job. Everything is a close family effort. Awesome content
Just a little warning. My jack gave up last week, and fortunately I had stands under it, or it would have been bad.
Kinda came here for this as well. I was cringing watching him sit underneath the rear with only that jack. I would hate to see a young kid like that be injured. But kudos for teaching him how to do this and being patient.
Same. Love the channel, but cringed seeing the Lex up on a jack without stands.
If I’m too lazy to get my stands I at least chuck the wheels underneath to help save my legs.
I love how its always a full family effort an there always joking and laughing must feel good to be able to employ family members so many other youtubers just want all the money an attention for themselves this family does it all together how it should be
To be fair, a lot of people don't want to be put on video so to say they want all the attention for themselves is simply ignorant.
Exactly! They always take care of family!
OMG Ben! I have seen Jack's fail in my lifetime. Safety 1st!
Ben, your kid bout gave me a heart attack watching him sit like that under the brake rotor. No jack stands! Just beggin for an incident. I love you guys. Please be safe.
Need a longer ratchet? No I was trying to change it from the next bay! 😂😂
Without even skipping a beat. This is why I love this channel!
We need more of Ben's family. There interaction is great.
While safety isn't a priority for you guys at least let it be for your kids. Teach them to use jack stands and PPE along with other safety items as they go, getting yourself hurt is completely different than hurting one of your kids that doesn't know better. Just like doing the brakes, both are teachable moments.
Blood also teaches lessons 💯😎
Dude forget it they wont use safety glasses they just make a silly face and the sparks go around thier eyes!!it is increadible!same thing with Matt and the Gang they hate safety glasses!! but sometimes u gotta learn thangs the hrd way bud...thaslife....but they are a sweet Family I Love them anyhoo!!!
Yeah seeing him sit cross legged under that rear wheel hub was really cringey 😬. Would really suck to have the car land on your legs if that jack fails. At least shove the tire under the side of the car.
@@annie42890 I'm with you I might have done that when I was 16 because nobody told me better, that's way past dumb, very disappointed, I like these guys buts that's stupid .
Please please please use jack stands 🙏
You really ought to have some jack stands under that car. When that young man sat down with his legs under that rotor, there was significant risk for that Harbor Freight floor jack to fail and crush his legs. Plus, it is very easy to knock a vehicle off a floor jack like that. I had to learn safety the hard way.
Can't agree with this more.
Came here to say this. Ben knows better than to put his legs under there, but the young lad doesn't. Should have been a learning opportunity at least.
Agree with everything you say, need jackstands.
Those jacks are actually pretty well made though, I wouldn’t shy away from them. I have one, and a mechanic friend uses them constantly for years and says they are good.
I don't use jackstands, but by gollie I don't put my body parts anywhere underneath it either.
@@bannedbycommieyoutube5time920 I had a Harbor Freight jack. It was a piece of junk. I quit using it.
“You got this, I believe in you. Don’t kill grandma.”
30 seconds later, forgetting everything “Daaaad”
it had me laughing 😆, every guy has done that at some point in his life
I was thinking the same
@@stout_tossme7541 @Spartacus And the expression on his face after she said it was priceless.
I don't know if it's the magic of editing (I don't think so) but I wonder if you guys know how much it means when someone teaches calmly and quietly vs teasing, making fun of or yelling at someone. There is a huge gap between light hearted joking around and ridicule. You guys get it. I learned to enjoy working on vehicles many years after my "teacher" was gone. Because it wasn't pleasant then. It was something to be dreaded. The lessons you guys are teaching your kids (and some of us) go way beyond the shop or mechanics. Love the channel.
More Ben and his family please, they seem to inject some good humor into your great channel.
6:30 don't care if you don't always have the ppe on, but damn the boy sitting with both legs under the rotor with only the pump jack holding the car from crushing him made me a little nervous
Especially when he stuck his head in the wheel well.😬
Ben, you are a great dad!
Wow @ 5:19 your son is very smart for a young man. Most kids that age are convinced that they know it all already.
What a family effort to get Grandma's Lexus fixed up with new brake pads on the rear and so nice to see Ben teaching his son how to do brakes very important and man can you save $$ by doing your own maintenance! Of course it helps to have a Dad and Uncle who are skilled at most things relating to truck's and car's! Be assured that Grandma will continue bringing you cinnamon rolls and lunch after fixing her car.
A friend taught his girlfriend how to do brakes…. definitely important…
should teach him not to pad slap things and machine or replace the rotors
Hell, I grew up caring an extra quart of oil as well. In my younger days we'd fill up with oil and check the gas.
That Nattie has a quick wit!😁 Nice to see Ben's kids again. 😀
Pretty funny how Grandma digs on Paul and calls Ben her favorite. Gotta love the ball busting. Paul's a good sport.
Don't we all just love Grandma working on her car God bless grandma got to keep her car running great God bless her
I have to tell you guys this, we were visiting my mother in law in a hospital in Indianapolis yesterday and I spotted a guy with a Fab Rats shirt on and as we passed him on our way to the elevator I said to him I love your shirt we're Fab Rats fans too! As the elevator doors were closing he hollered do you like Matt's Off Road too? And just before the doors slammed shut I managed to holler back we love Matt too!! Made my day!!! Just passing that along! Even when we're not watching you on RUclips you're still bringing your fans joy!! Thanks for that!
Always a good Video when Grandma Lolly makes an appearance ! And good for Ben on teaching your boy to do things himself, very important skills to know. We all had to start learning somewhere. Thats exactly how i learned to wrench and weld, by helping my grandpa.
Just seeing young men still interested in learning auto maintenance ECT, now days wish they would bring shop back in schools!
@@albertstowel8613 I was the last generation in my area to have wood, metal and auto shop offered in high school, and its a shame its not taught anymore. Too much of a push for college instead of learning some very useful trades.
@@shanepirch2947 I'm 55 I didn't even know that they stopped having shop, till a couple years ago, and I didn't know they don't do cursive, till some young guy at work seen me write 1 day, he must have told other workers, because they wanted to see me write, and they were amazed?
@@albertstowel8613 Thats why i love Paul and Ben and what they do on their channel, guys like us are hard to find these days and they are helping pass the torch to a younger generation.
Definitely! And keep it family friendly, I only follow like 4 people, take a look at puddings Fab shop I think that's it? He is pretty funny and very great at showing how to fix vehicle stuff ECT I'm not into all the vehicles he likes? I have a little S10, and a lifted Z71, but check him out, also very very family guy
Tough enough to learn and then he's got the rest of us looking over his shoulder. Good job.
Great moment father teaching son... with lots of patience... one very lucky Gramma to have such a GREAT service crew!
Ben is taking the time to teach his son which is great. Watching Paul and Ben is a real treat as they work so well together.
That bluegrass is SO much better than the twinkly fairy music!
Good job keeping Grandma rolling.
Seeing the family interaction on here is a big reason I love Fabrats. Well done Ben. Never stop making content folks.
Sweet, gotta take care grandma. Awesome job guy's 👏 👍
MORE GRANDMA LOLLY!!! Ben is such a great addition to Fab Rats. And it was cool to see his kids helping out.
Wow, granpa Sherm must have been one heck of a dad! Watching Paul and Ben interact with their kids just warms me up. I was given responsibilities beyond my years but I grew up faster than most. My dad yelled a lot. I found that I didn’t like being yelled at much, so I don’t yell much.
You guys have shown Hollywood that there’s more people that want to see normal things and all the drama and alphabet soup crap isn’t what we want.
Thank you for taking the time to take us along.
We used to pile into the old station wagon and drive way to far just to see the worlds biggest rocking chair or something like that. You guys are reliving my childhood memories.
Take care. Just keep acting like we aren’t there. That’s what makes you so relatable.
Momma knows, momma knows! Momma knows her children and grandchildren will take care of her and her car, nice job folks!
Paul you’re the glue of FabRats man , you gotta be the star in every episode, you know what you’re doin man . I love FabRats family
I feel like some sort of yelling banshee but, always, always, always brace (floor stand) your car when you lift it up. Particularly if you're going to cross your legs under the rotor.
For the most part though, really enjoy Ben's safety habits, glasses, helmet, gloves. Just how things should be done, rather than haphazardly being safe occasionally. Love watching brothers do work.
I love watching your channel so pleeease when working on a vehicle on a jack, use some sort of support. Vehicles fall very quickly, I know I’ve had it happen. I want to continue watching you all for many years.
It’s great teaching the younger one to turn wrench’s. But teach them safety. Never trust a hydraulic jack. Always use stands.
Came here to say this. At least throw a wheel under the rocker incase it falls. All I could see is the kids legs getting pinned under that rotor.
Yes, please set a good example for your viewers.
Yes I said Yikes, when I noticed no jack stands. May seem harsh, but there's really no excuse for this. Even for a bunch of hicks.
(Whoa everyone, calm down, just kidding about being hicks.)
"Grandma's ridin' in style" - in a Lexus. Totally appropriate, me thinks.
Another excellent video with all kinds of asides and vignettes - kids on camera, on brakes and snatches of their dialogues; other family interactions and history (no-brake driving style, that always-spare oil quart); the mechanical (parts delivery failure, the new oil filter tool acquisition, regard for the next person's job on the car). So many threads in just one short video. A joy to watch! Lovely work, Michelle.
Grandmas a doll and you boys are rockstars for being so good for her.
Good work getting that all fixed up for your mom!👍
Grandma is a riot. Love watching the family get together like this
I hope Hunter is doing some catching as well as chasing 🤣!
I wanna be like Ben when i grow up. Hes such a natural teacher too. Very clear and encouraging!
The clips for the brakes are called anti raddle clips, you should remove the master cylinder cap before you open the calipers and if it is full the fluid will over flow and leak every were. If full use a turkey baster to remove some of the brake fluid. If the lid is left on and happens to be full pushing the calipers in will sometimes force the lid off.
Love the son and daughter working together and still harassing each other. Did notice how tall Ben’s son is 😉
I love how the whole family pulls together not only with the fixing of whatever needs done but the camera work as well.
I remember one of my Suburbans had the wheels put on with an impact wrench, and not a torque wrench. To get it off I had to take it to a shop after bending a 4-way lug wrench, a breaker bar and splitting a socket. I limped it into a shop and told the mechanic about it, and that my Harbor Freight impact tool couldn't budge it. He said "Boys do you think I should get out my Ingersoll Rand?" And that tool spun off those nuts without even a grunt. Then he said "It's about time you boys bought some REAL tools." Still, there was no way I could have changed the tire on the side of the road the way it was. I think the proper torque is the way to go on wheel nuts.
"Buy some real tools" is the talk of someone who likely uses his "real tools" to abuse bolts in the first place. Start planning for the eventual replacement of those wheel studs, good chance several are stretched. Did it to myself on one of my first vehicles (not with an impact, but a 22" breaker bar can also do a lot of damage if used incorrectly), changed most of the studs one by one within the next year and learned not to do it again. Later, an ASE-certified mechanic did it to me on the fronts of another vehicle after a clutch change, and I ended up replacing most of those wheel studs one by one within the next year, also.
Proper torque also avoids distorted hubs and rotors and keeps bolts within their safe working range,
Absolutely Love Ben and his kids / family ❤️ Such a wonderful and beautiful blessing watching his kids help.
We still miss Randall 😢.
Ben is Sooooo intelligent and his funny antics are more than Great 👍
Brilliant that you are teaching the next generation, maximum pts for being a great parent.
Ben you should have jack stands under the car. Also please have your son keep all body part out from under the car.
Note cross legs under axle.
It is a true blessing to have someone able and willing to work on your vehicle. We don't have that, plus the two great mechanics that worked on our vehicles for several years both retired. The guys that took over the shop 🤦♀️🤦♀️. The transmission needs replaced on my husband's truck. He was saying he sure wished he was where Fabrats could do it, lol. Take care of Grandma Lollie, she's a keeper. She's got a bunch of great sons as well. Stay safe and GOD bless
Thought this would be boring but once again Paul and Ben proved me wrong. Stupid fun watching them fix up mom's car.
Hey Ben ol'kid I want to tell you a little bit bout an old friend of mine and the way he always would say (I'm goin to take an do this and I am goin to take an do that!!) I couldn't help but hear you say where goin to take an weld this take an grind off the rust!! Well now I'll take an tell ya it made me smile to hear you say (will take an do this an that) it brought a smile to my face because my ol'friend past away!!!
When doing brakes I always place the tire under the car, JIC. Oaker, never place a part of your body under the car when it's supported by 1 thing. That jack could fail and the car would crush your legs.
Ben's daughter has a wicked sense of humor from behind the camera. "Don't kill grandma!" His son grinned when she said it:) They should be on more. Ben's wife too. After all, Ben's grandma's favorite son.
Even general maintenance is a Joy to watch. Love the family atmosphere!
Ben, it was great that your son was willing to try something new while being videoed. Learn by doing, trial and error. Well done.
I know your family's thankful for taking care of their needs and having the knowledge to get it done! Your truly a good loving family!!!
Grandma Lolly is AWESOME love it when she is on their ? I get the favorite son act when my mom needs something done LOL !
Gotta take care of grandma!!! Love it!
Nice to see Ben showing his son how to change the brakes. I just did it with my youngest.
Nice video!! Taking care of Grandma is VERY IMPORTANT!!! Especially if you want to keep eating all those good lunches!! 😆
One of the very best RUclips channels there is. Funny family friendly entertainment, automotive education. Along with lots of fun in the rocks, sand, snow, and the even some demolition derby now! Yee haw!
I agree.....jackstands a MUST......SAFETY FIRST... People CANT be replaced. 👍🤠👍
Great video guy's....Ben has been a great addition to the channel....u guys keep putting out the best content !!!!..... does Michelle still edit ?.....does she ever do "name that part" anymore ?....lol
Great Job ben you need a raise and I miss Randall Too...
so great to have a Grandma !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys are great! But... when Ben was changing the brakes I was cringing at the car resting, tires off on the jack. Even worse was when his son had his legs under the suspension. Use jack stands!!! Maybe you need a CAUTION sign like Matt has in his shop.
I sure love to watch the interaction between family members!
This is undoubtedly the BEST CHANNEL on RUclips . I absolutely love you guys!!! Sending you guys love all the way from Little Witcombe, Gloucestershire, England. 👍🙂👍🇺🇲🇬🇧🇺🇲🇬🇧
Kudos to Ben for teaching his son about cars and such but HEY BEN. I think you forgot the jack stands..🤔😁
"You got this. I believe in you. Just don't kill grandma." Easily the best, quickest wit line ever!!!
These are fun videos to watch in between the projects the wife and I love seeing just normal stuff in the shop haha ❤️
The Fabrats family always brightens my day and makes me smile, thanks for the video
I'd have to agree about safety, especially when you have a post-lift available.
Grandma is a lucky lady to have two such capable grandsons!
I admire to have a family like Ben and Paul! One day me and my girlfriend will be there!
Ben and his family are “rock stars”
You gotta take care of grandma she is the who feeds you, great video keep up the good work God bless from GA
@ 6:26,
Where is Ben’s son sitting?
And… Am I missing something?
No jack-stands?
I suppose you may be using the new Dayton transparent jackstands and they aren’t easily seen LOL
Don’t get me wrong, Ive watched your videos for a long while and will continue because they are very entertaining.
And even though you’ve acknowledged improvement in some areas considering safety, there’s still some issues and this situation my friends is definitely a problem.
Teaching youngsters a lucrative trade is fantastic and I applaud you folks; teaching them to do it safely allows them to continue without disabilities!!
Again, very much enjoy your videos.
And Ben is becoming quite the fantastic showman isn’t he? 👍🏻
i love these videos where you fix random peoples cars. well grandmas not random but you can get my drift. and the reason i do is as a mechanic myself i always learn something new i can apply in my own shop. so thanks keep up the great work on these videos!
I don’t do this for myself, but when I have the kids working under the car or in a wheel well I put a Jack stand under the car or throw the wheels I just pulled off under the car. Something to protect them youngins.
Love your channel. Keep fabin!
Great job keeping Grandma safe!!!
Ben is a great addition to the garage crew.
When I worked at a tire store running the alignment machine, I would occasionally slot the holes on the strut just very lightly to get the alignment in spec, but after a couple years I could get one eyeballed in really close. Made the alignment go way faster. I'm sure the alignment guy appreciates you getting it as close as possible.
Yes we do! But even if we have to adjust it all all the best thing is that all the parts have been broke loose
I'm glad that I live in a area where there are numerous auto parts stores (8) near my house.
Hello Natie! Welcome to the crew! You didn't know you were part of a 'Crew' did you? Well, if this is the worst thing that happens to you ALL day, You're good! :D Son before you are too hard on yourself about knowing stuff, It's great that you look up to your dad and all, but Ben didn't always 'know everything'. He had to learn at some point too. I am sure that HIS dad showed him, again and again how something worked before he got it. The fact that you are trying means the world in my book. Never be afraid to ask for help, especially from your dad. He understands more than you know and loves you to boot. Y'all are great! love the family interaction, God Bless you all.
It’s great to see Ben and his family, I sure do miss visiting with them at their shop in Utah County! There aren’t many folks in the world as good as you guys!
Glad to see you\ grandma got the kit with the new springs and mounts already on the strut's! That saves work in the future having to replace those and give's a better ride since all is new. Not to mention saved time not needing to change the old spring's and Mount's over!
Ben you should be proud of teaching your boy how to work on your own stuff. I taught my self how to work on my own stuff. I wish I had a guy like you teaching me how to do it. I like your way of teaching. Don’t do it for them and let them figure it out. Your son will be one of the best. Because he learned from the best.
Showing her some love, love it
Love the video only thing I’m saying when you change your brakes never put your feet underneath Rear end bad things can happen I’ve seen it multiple times on 911 calls I’ve run
"BMW uses odd sizes so no one else can work on them".......Classic!!
Gotta keep grandma happy.
Need an audio clip of before and after for the exhaust fixes. Love the videos, glad you share your light to make ours brighter too ✨️
Also, Love seeing Grandma Lolly 😘❤️
"Just don't kill Grandma"🤣 Ben's boy looks like Paul ❤
Great video as always!! Well grandma raised some great sons there to make sure she is safe while drivin. The coronet sure looked sweet sittin out there. That's pretty funny them leavin their filter wrench on filter. Fram oil filters for 50 year's to date never had any problems. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun enjoy ya'lls family
Brakes are kinda important. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friends. Fab On. Weld On. Keep making. God bless.
Well 910 comments about no jack stands may be the right amount to make a change when the car is on a jack. I love your content and the way the kids are working on projects that burn gas, the way you all help folks and family alike is something this country needs to see modeled for sure!!
Big builds are good but easy fixes are fun and informative.
good job with the brake pads BUT please use safety stands in addition to the floor jack!
