Forging a Double Bit Axe: Crafting a Versatile and Unique Tool

- Hello!
In this weeks video I am forging a double bit axe. These days this axe is commonly used for throwing, atleast here in Sweden. However from the beginning they were made to have two edges in one axe. For example you could have one thin edge for cutting while the other was thicker for limbing and so forth. Two axes in one. Brilliant if you ask me. IO had loads of fun making this axe and I hope you enjoy the video!

Your work is amazing, I’ll be looking forward to when you have stock.
Thank you very much!
Finally the video of making that beauty
😀😀😀
I always love when the natural color of the handles is kept as you do. So many forgers like to burn their wood.
Thank you! I agree
@ when will your axes be back in stock?
@@reesespeices8887 there will be two available shortly. After that I need to remake some tools to speed up the production
Beautiful axe and beautiful job, as always. A chisel plate though...
Scared the shit out of me
Tolle Arbeit, die genaue Auswuchtung.
Well done.
I've always felt the Sweeds produce the nicest cruisers. Beautiful smithing sir!
Thank you :)
Beautiful Axe Nils!

Beautiful work.
Awesome work as always.
Wow! Awesome axe!
Beautiful work Nils! I'm heading out to my forge to make a wrapped eye hatchet from railroad clip here soon.
Thank you!
That's awesome axe and your touch mark is just as cool.
Thanks man! I might tell the story behind my touch mark one day!
What an amazing axe brother, I was very excited to see you build this one as it holds a special memory for me. My grandfather always used a double bit axe to chop and split wood with. He used a splitting wedge and sledgehammer for the big tough stuff but the double bit did everything else.
Thats awesome! Thanks for watching!
That’s so bad ass Nils
Outstanding
Beautifu work brother!
Many thanks!
Awesome job mate!
You’ve made a really good job of that axe, it looks great, top job! Could I suggest you try making a “speed axe” , they are used in international wood chopping competitions, I would love to see you create one sometime. Regards from Down Under.
Looks both beautiful and practical!
The eye rejoices.

Thank you very much!
You sir are a skilled craftsman. I love watching your videos. I've been checking your website for probably over a year now, and everything is always sold out. Is there a waiting list?
Thanks! I dont have a waitong list at the moment. However there will be more available!!
@ cool, I'll keep an eye out.
Nils, the US Forestry has one edge of double bits axes extremely sharp while the other edge is more durable. Is that how they sharpen them where you live?
Yeah thats right. Usually one edge is dull so you can cut knots and the other is very sharp for felling the tree etc. Now adays they are usually used for axe throwing
When will your axes be back in stock
Hi Nils
Great video and a very nice double axe 👍🪓 I am a double axe thrower and would like to know how much weight your axe head is 🤔 What is the length of your cutting edges? Why did you use C45 steel 🤔 But I like your axe 👍😁 I would like to throw it once 👍🪓
Its a bit dmaller than the regular throwing axes. As stated in the description, I made it more like a traditional double bit, to bring to the forest. I think the head weighs around 1.4kg. I chose c45 since its very durable.
@ Thanks for your answers 👍 For throwing a double axe I prefer more head weight and of course the maximum of the blade length and actually also C 60 steel 😁 I have forged double axes myself but not from one piece but three parts and welded them 😅 I'm not a blacksmith either, just a lumberjack 🪓 🙈🪓
Dum fråga kanske men finns det någon anledning till att yxan har ett dubbelt huvud?
Skrev det i beskrivningen! Det är för att du kan ha olika eggar på samma yxa
My fear of double bit axes can be suppressed to watch this video
You know in therapy they teach you to conquer your fears!
Even when Some times yours fears involve a two bit axe wood with metal stuck in it and a scar on your face that need 12 stitches.
You know what you have to do!
What a shape! Like a beautiful curvy chick. Wonderful. 👍
Thank you!
Why dont you open eye by press machina? Why do you make it wider by hand? Cant you? (Sorry for my bad English, i dont know the differeces between can, could, may, would etc.)
Not sure I understand the question
