One of the few actual survivors who witnessed the explosion of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. This is truly a remarkable account.

Personal experience of a Japanese pilot n Hiroshima during the atomic bomb, six hours buried under the rubble. Survived and saved from his orders for a kamikaze death. Vivid description.

I had heard of Seuss-Inquart before this, but i had not yet heard of the other 2. Thank you Mark for elaborating. Such suffering due to these men...

Googling this book there is an article about 10 historical discrepancies of his account. (Yasuo Kuwahara). The article consigns the book to fiction, speculating that he was an armaments worker at Hiro, where there was no air base.

Are these deep thoughts indeed the thoughts of a sixteen year aged teenager?

"The American B29 probably did carry more firepower than the Japanese fighter planes" but the picture you used is a B17. Not enough of it is visible to determine which B17 series.

Agreed about the non- accurate photographs selected. As far as the B-17 goes, I'm pretty positive it's an early war model, possibly Pearl Harbor or Wake Island. Possibly even Midway. Notice the early war insignia

@@hrdley911 You're probably right. My father was a G-model pilot, the one with the chin turret. Some other models had gun in the bombardier's station, but that photo doesn't show us the chin or any gun in the nose, thus supporting your conclusion. Dad's best friend from high school (later to be my Uncle Al) was a tail gunner. He was out of the army when WWII ended because he had flown the 25 missions allowed at the time. Dad flew only four missions and spent 16 months in Stalag Luft Eins. We children pressed them for stories but neither would say much.

True, I used to be the lead in the Boeing Black & White lab. We printed many historic Boeing photographic negatives. This is clearly an early B-17. Which model is hard to tell.
