Namibia South Ep 3 Luderitz - "Ironvan" Adventures with Ironman 4x4

Episode 3 of the Southern Namibia trip. Here, the team explores Lüderitz. Desert & Diamonds. And Kolmanskop Ghost Town.
The town lies next to an open, natural ocean bay, one of very few along the so-called Diamond Coast. Franz Adolf Eduard Lüderitz, a merchant from Bremen in Germany founded the town of Lüderitz, named after himself, in May 1883.
In 1488, while homeward bound from his pioneering voyage around the Cape of Good Hope into the Indian Ocean, Bartolomeu Dias sailed into the inlet presently known as Lüdertiz Bay.
At the extreme western promontory of the bay he raised a padrao, dedicating it to Sao Tiago (St James). Since the padrao was erected on St James’s Day, being 25 July in the Christian calendar, the date of its erection can be fixed as 25 July 1488.

Brightly colored wallpaper peeling off the walls, dilapidated houses now inundated in rolling banks of sand … this is Kolmanskop, a ghost town in southern Africa’s Namib Desert, in the middle of a region known as “the forbidden zone.” And the story of how it got here is about as strange as the sight of the town today.
