Late to the show but we just picked up a 19 T with 7K mi. last week. The smile throughout the video pretty much sums up the feeling from behind the wheel. Traded our 718 on it.
I really enjoyed it, I must say. I like the purity of the Carrera models and Porsche made the car the sweet spot of that range in my opinion. You could go from a 981 and be very happy. However, I would like to see what a Cayman GTS 4.0 is like. That could be a logical car to jump into?
Was the bigger size of the 991 (compared to your 996) noticeable at all? Did you like the high-tech electronic aspect of the car? Luddite that I am, the high-tech of the new Porsches' scares me a little. Perfectly happy to stick with my base 997! Thanks for the great videos, Jay!
Yes, it is noticeable. Both cars close around you but my 996 feels like a smaller car. I can take or leave the high tech stuff, to be honest. All I need is navigation and music and I’ve got that on my phone. The one thing I loved was the automatic rev matching on the downshifts though. That’s wonderful. Appreciate the great feedback, Tom, thank you!
Lovely car, especially in the ‘Guards Red’ if that’s what it is. I missed what the T actually stood for? I assume it’s a ‘T’ because you only have a 3rd of the features of the GT cars and therefore only a third of the lettering’T’😂 I would love that to be true What did you think about the size difference between the 996 and 991?
Yes Guards Red. That’s exactly why the T SHOULD be called the T but, alas, it stands for Touring. Yes, bigger car, no doubt. The 996 feels more nimble and placeable than the 991.
I’ll be doing a lot of videos on my 996 this week and next after having spent the weekend with @autoamateur driving down to North Carolina and back. I spent a lot of time driving it in various situations (long journey and more sporting on the Tail Of The Dragon). You’ll see but after that I am even less inclined to sell it now than I have ever been. It’s GREAT!
I believe this car has rear axle steering. Any comment on that? Was it noticeable? I read a lot of debates online about its degree of effectiveness / impact. Thanks in advance
I’m not sure. 911s are always pretty good handlers and the steering is always direct. I’d need to spend more time than I had with it to know. Perhaps that answers the question in that I couldn’t immediately tell?
Jay, good video of the T. I’ve considered it but feel like the HP would be a bit on the light side given the car’s weight. Any chance you could compare it to a GTS model, either 991.1 or 991.2 and let us know what you think.
Keep in mind that the Carrera T is basically the same weight as both the 993 and the 964, both of which have some 100 less HP than the T. I understand your thinking given we live in a world where 450-500 HP seems like the norm for sports cars, but given the weight I personally haven't found a 991.2 to feel underpowered. That said, I did think my old 993 was a bit underpowered. Food for thought...
I have a 991.1 GTS and i tried a T recently, it's a very different experience. It'd strongly advice you try both because it's likely that if you like one, you won't like the other. The T is a little more usable as it doesn't beg to be pushed, it's far less lively. Performance isn't relevant for me on the open road, it's about the feel, and the T felt muted. .1 GTS all the way.
Cool car . I guess you can chip that motor and pick up some good free revving power per Nick M . When the 992 version arrives it will be cool also . That drum beat of the background music up to about 2.5 minutes was grating a little like a dripping faucet ... to me anyway . Just a heads up , I still watched and still " Liked " . Thanks .
I’m sorry about the music. Some like it, others don’t. It’s a tricky one because it does fill in a gap when I’m not speaking. Thank you for ‘liking’ it despite the music though! I appreciate that!
@@JAYREAD Having music isn't bad just with that choice I turned it all the way up before I realized it was music rather than just that drum beat every couple seconds . I wasn't sure what it was until I did that . Maybe it's just my hearing . I'm not trying to be a D bag , I hope it comes across as positive feedback . I've been a subscriber for a couple months and know you want to grow your channel .
Oh no, Ed, I considered it positive feedback and that’s why I am glad you mentioned it! These things are hard to get right and unless people speak their minds, I never will! Thanks so much for subscribing and keep the feedback coming!
I enjoyed that Jay - thanks.👍. I would love to see a review of the Boxster 25!? By the way, have you registered your 996 on the Porsche Classic register?
Thanks Andy. Let me see if I can get a Boxster 25 when they get to dealerships. My bet is that they will sell quickly before I can but we will see! I haven’t registered it on the Porsche Classic register actually. What is that? How do I find out more about it?
@@JAYREAD . Hi Jay, I believe both the 986 and 996 have made their way onto the Porsche Classic register - www.porsche.com/usa/accessoriesandservices/classic/. I’m not entirely sure what is required to register your car other than proof of ownership, but they seem to be offering some privileges for doing this. I will be contacting my local dealership to enquire. By the way, I’ve read that the UK allocation for the Boxster 25 sold out pretty rapidly upon release!
@@JAYREAD thank you Jay, I thought there had been some appreciation although the T, does not seem to appear in lists that often. Loved reviews you have done on it - congrats

Lucky guy! Such a nice car!
Thanks for the drive this morning Jay. It was great to meet you.
I was glad to do it with you, Craig! Lovely route. We should do it again. All the best!
Your 996 looks great next to it. Cant believe how big the 991 is!
That’s why I parked it there. To see the comparison. It means that the 996 is actually nearly 4 inches less wide than a 992!
I do consider what it would be like to swap my 981 some days, mostly for a GT4, but have to admit this appeals especially in Guards 🔥

I’d get this one just like this but add the sunroof! The only newer one I’d take over my 996.
Epic video! I love the Carrera T! Good job on explaining the idea behind the specifications
Thanks very much!
Bridgeport? 😳. You're very brave.

Good video Jay. Don’t upgrade yet! Some of us have to hold onto our older 911’s I enjoy the 996 click :)

I can’t find too many around me into the 996. Thanks man.
Nice video, thanks.
My pleasure! Plenty more like it in my library!
Stunning, however de badge it and remove the graphics, then what a Q car (even if that's ironic!)

How’s the weight of the clutch on these? Keep in mind I drive a Miata with a light pedal 😊

If I can get one, I will! I wonder if a Cayman GTS 4.0 might be a close match to this with a bit more power? Hmm. Thanks for the nice feedback, Mark!

$110k?

Straight swap with an ‘03 Carrera? Lol! Yes, I liked that car. The perfect Carrera IMHO.
